PRODUCTION SPECIFICATION HANDBOOK las Vegas VOLUME 3.0 11/20/14 Copyright All Rights Reserved
INTRODUCTION Out-of-home advertising is a cost-efficient medium with an extraordinary reach. Whether used along with other media forms like television and radio, or by itself, its impact is undeniable, and its design limitations are defined only by the imagination of those who create for it. An understanding of the details of print production, as applied to outdoor media is critical. No matter how good an idea is, the practical matter of making sure the copy is prepared correctly to the correct size, with adequate image resolution, on the appropriate substrate is necessary for its success. This Production Handbook has been designed to introduce graphic designers and art directors to the range and diversity of s media forms; and to assist in their understanding the copy and print specifications necessary to produce copy that can be posted on the various CBS Outdoor out-of-home media site types. Wherever possible, has endeavored to create national specifications for its media forms; however some media forms are unique to certain markets. Please confirm specifications with your account executive prior to printing to insure accuracy. While it is possible to buy printing directly through CBS Outdoor s own Production Group, many clients choose to produce copy using their own printer. This book provides guidelines printers can use to understand which materials must be used, and the timeframe in which the copy must be delivered in order to be posted in time. Whether you choose to use our production facilities, or decide to handle the printing on your own, we are at your service. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help!

Las Vegas OUTDOOR LifeSTYle Kiosk Recommended Printing Methods: Duratrans/ Duraflex - A photo- graphic process, printparency, provides excellent full-color production at reasonable costs in short runs. Silk Screen: Excellent for flat and 4-color reproduction. Cost effective in quantities over 15. Posters should be water resistant. Printing: Acceptable stocks include opaline, kimbura, styrene, and diffuser backed photographic substrates such as Duratrans/Duraflex. Stocks should be white and moderately translucent, transmitting 12-15% of the light. Verify acceptability of stock prior to printing as thickness of stock may vary. Live Area 67 h x 46 w Inks: Copy may be exposed to sunlight. Specify UVprotected, fade-proof materials to insure longevity of poster. Sizing: In selecting a design, letter sizing is critical. For easy read- ability, all letters should be a minimum of 6 in size. Copy should bleed to edge. Over-Runs: A 30% over-run should be provided in case copy is dam- aged by the weather or other elements. Printers: We can recommend many printers whom we have found to meet our strict quality requirements. Van Wagner Outdoor retains the right to reject poor quality printing. This policy protects all of our advertisers by ensuring each advertisement is in good company. Ask your printer to contact us to discuss your project. Size: Bleed: 70 h x 48 w Visual Area: 67 h x 46 w Mechanical Sizes: Artwork Scale: 1/4 = 1 Scale Bleed Area: 17.5 h x 12 w Visual Area: 16.75 h x 11.5 w 300 ppi image resolution at above mechanical size CMYK Acceptable Files: Flattened Photoshop files, InDesign, Illustrator Correctly formatted PDF files Imbed all images when possible Outline all fonts Preview File: Include small low resolution JPEG or PDF preview of the designs. Caution: The most common mistakes made by designer and printer relate to backlit panels. Backlighting can cause color shifts which can ruin an otherwise well designed display: white colors darken, metallic colors not properly specified will blacken at night, and over-printing produces a third and different color...although some over-printing results in wonderful effects.
