Main scientific field of interest 1. Evolutionary stellar models (Actually I m computing new models for the turnoff masses and the main sequence down to the hydrogen burning minimum mass for Population II stars, including in the evolutionary code (ATON) different versions of an updated equation of state, and making simulations of the theoretical luminosity functions for different choices of the mass function and of the initial helium content. The idea is to compare these models with the observational recent data of the main sequence of NGC 6397 in order to see if we can constrain its helium abundance from the analysis of the main sequence luminosity function and eventually to confirm, that NGC 6397 is a mainly second generation cluster as suggested by the study of chemical anomalies of its stars in the framework of the dynamical evolution of globular clusters presented by D Ercole et al. 2008.) 2. Asteroseismology (I m also involved in the construction of a theoretical framework for the interpretation of the present and future data on young intermediate mass pulsating stars. In particular, I m using different linear adiabatic non-radial pulsation codes (Aarhus package and OSC37 in particular) to calculate frequencies of pulsating PMS stars in order to interpretate observed ones, both from already available ground based observations and from the future more accurate and extensive CoRoT results in the contest of CoRoT Esta collaboration. In this context I m also using new sets of pre-ms evolutionary tracks including rotation, non grey boundary conditions and either low or high convection efficiency recently computed with ATON code. In this contest I m a member of the KASC (Kepler Asteroseismic Science Consortium) team, and in particular involved in two WG (Working Group) on Delta Scuti stars. 3. Pulsational models of Population II variables (Nonlinear and convective models of RR Lyrae and Population II Cepheids models atmosphere in Johnson-Cousin and SLOAN filters pulsation-evolution connection and syntetic models calculation of important relations connecting pulsational and evolution parameters dependence of the results of the hydrodynamical code by the mixing lenght parameter) 4. Pulsational distance scale of Population II variables (Self-consistence distance scale based on models of RR Lyrae and Population II Cepheids in the Local Group) 5. Search of variable stars in crowed field (Photometric reduction performed with DAOPHOT/ DAOMASTER/ ALLFRAME of astronomical images of the Galactic globular cluster NGC 2419 obtained with the SuprimeCam@SUBARU research of RR Lyrae stars and study of their variability (ISIS, GRATIS, PERIOD04) match of different catalogs (in particular SUBARU, TNG and HST). 6. Globular Cluster Luminosity Function (I have used RR Lyrae stars belonging to different GGC to study the Galactic Globular Cluster Luminosity Function statistical 3
analysis of this function to obtain a statistical relevant turnover magnitude. Study of sub-populations of Galactic globular clusters in the nearest elliptical galaxies use of the GCLF as distance indicator.) 7. Tidal streams in Local Group (Preparation of two surveys which will be done with the Napoli GTO@VST concerning the stellar populations of the dwarf galaxies of the Local Group and observational detection of the tidal streams between the Galaxy and her satellites (STREGA@VST and STEP@VST)) 4
