IFS APPLICATIONS FOR MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT
OUR SOLUTION S DNA When we first set out to create IFS Applications over 25 years ago, our goal was to make the most usable business solution on the market. And to help us achieve that ambition, we put simplicity at the forefront of everything we did. We still do. We decided that we would make only one product, which can be easily configured to match the specific requirements of a broad range of industries. We still do. We decided that we would build IFS Applications on standards so our customers would not be locked into any particular technology. We still do. We decided to design IFS Applications as a component-based structure so it can be easily extended and updated. We still do. We decided that each software component must be totally compatible with every other, yet capable of running independently. We still do. We decided to build a product that could handle change and long-term evolution. We still do. And, that we would make the most user-friendly business software on the market. We still do that, too.
MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT 3 LEADING INTEGRATED MARITIME CAPABILITY Modern ship fleet management demands both operational effectiveness and financial efficiency, particularly with over 70% of the whole-life costs of complex equipment incurred during in-service support. Performance-based logistics (PBL) contracting has also become increasingly significant, such as contracting for availability (CfA) or maritime class output management (COM). Therefore reducing and managing maritime support costs, while also increasing operational availability, requires competent, intelligent and predictive support solutions. IFS Applications is the key through-life enabler for naval and civil fleets. To achieve high levels of availability in the maritime environment, suppliers and maintainers need to continually improve performance of fleets, assets and the associated maintenance processes using an enterprise perspective. Agile and efficient fleet optimization and management, fleet maintenance, service and refit need to be synchronized in a continuous engineering support (CES) environment leveraging the advantages of modern technology. For nearly 20 years, IFS has worked closely with leading original equipment manufacturers, contractors, suppliers and service companies to ensure our solutions meet the maritime support industry s stringent requirements for civil and military fleets. With over 400 projectoriented companies using IFS solutions today, our strategic focus on the maritime support industry is evidenced in a deep industry expertise, broad functional coverage and a solid track record. IFS offers flexible, component-based project-driven business solutions that manage the entire maritime lifecycle of contracts, projects, assets and services. IFS Applications includes functionality for contract and project management, risk management, budgeting and forecasting, engineering, material management, sub-contracting, document management, fabrication, service and maintenance management, as well as financials and human resources. Because our solution is component-based, i.e. built on a service-oriented architecture, it s also easier to implement, and being modular implementation can be incremental to align with the growth and scope of your business. We have a cross-section of customers from commercial and military shipyards, specialist contractors in the defense sector and military naval end-users. IFS has built and deployed solutions with capabilities that cover all aspects of the lifecycle of maritime assets. 4 MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT MARITIME SUPPORT IS CHANGING OUT THERE! Things are changing rapidly in the maritime support industry regardless of whether you specialize in heavy maintenance of maritime assets, component repair, original equipment manufacturer (OEM) and delivering aftermarket services, engine overhaul or manage enterprise dockyard capability. There is rapidly increasing focus to consistently deliver on time and quality, to conform to regulatory controls and to continuously try to improve turnaround times in the most costeffective manner to provide your customers with the best value possible and to maximize your profits. The commercial and operating landscape is also changing, with an increased use of contracted-out services, pressure for standardization, demand for agility to be able to handle change, as well as traceability and support for the entire project lifecycle all these are key requirements of a maritime service supplier today. Performance-based logistics (PBL), power by the hour, contracting for availability (CfA), class output management (COM) and service level agreement (SLA) contracts have also become synonymous within this aftermarket sector, and are key growth areas for many OEMs and after-market service providers. This means that the maritime support industry is always transforming and adjusting, and operators (military and civil) are increasingly taking note of their suppliers information technology infrastructure because of the difference it can make when it comes to standardized processes, documentation delivery, project accountability, operational availability, and ability to adapt to their downstream changes. IFS recognizes the requirement for the maritime support IT solution to be agile and able to adjust to and address these changing needs. Therefore, if you operate/own, develop, manufacture or maintain complex maritime assets with long in-service life spans, then continued and efficient through-life support is an integral part of your business and operational model. 6 MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT YOUR MARITIME SUPPORT CHALLENGES Whether you re in engineering, contracting, procurement, fleet or installation management or any other field related to maritime support, IFS Applications provides complete lifecycle support of contracts, projects, assets and services. Thanks to its inherent architecture, IFS Applications accommodates any additional support you might require, and can be precisely configured to match the demands of your projects today and in the future. I NEED TO OPTIMIZE PLANNING AND FORECASTING We recognize that as important as visibility into your day-today maritime maintenance operations is, the ability to exercise control over the long-term maintenance horizon is key. I NEED TO MEET SAFETY REQUIREMENTS We recognize that maritime support is a complex and potentially dangerous enterprise that needs to be managed within a robust safety framework. I NEED TO IMPROVE OPERATIONAL EFFICIENCY With increasing global competition in the market, cost cutting measures alone will not deliver competitive advantage. IFS recognizes that service providers need to rethink operational structures and processes radically decreasing turnaround times, providing higher quality of work and lowering total throughput costs. I NEED TO OPTIMIZE EACH MAINTENANCE SERVICE VISIT Complex assets, particularly ships, frequently contain components that while in themselves are not due for a service inspection may quite possibly need to be removed in order for another item to be serviced. I NEED TO COLLABORATE WITH MY CUSTOMERS AND SUPPLIERS Managing a successful maritime support business or operation depends on making quick decisions by engaging customers and suppliers every step of the way as part of an end-to-end enterprise. IFS Applications will enable you to forward plan so that you consistently deliver to plan, achieve faster turnaround times, eliminate nonproductive wait periods and reduce on-hand inventory cost with a more efficient procurement process. IFS Applications keeps track of the validity of employees licenses, certifications and skill sets, and assigns the correctly qualified personnel to specific tasks on any given asset. There is a specific Health & Safety module, and the solution gives full auditable traceability of all tasks performed with audit trails to regulatory authorities and customers as and when required. All users work with the same information so that when safety bulletins are released, all personnel have complete visibility of impact on board ship or in the dockyard. IFS Applications identifies and removes waste, and adds real customer value. The solution allows you to take into account both activity and resource dependencies when managing a maintenance, repair & overhaul (MRO) activity. With full integration to a constraint scheduler, resources can be moved and assigned to operations based on the objective of achieving the promised date. This allows planners to take corrective action to prevent slippages. IFS Applications has the capability to identify components with service inspections due beyond the current activity window and schedule accordingly thus driving down operating costs and increasing availability. It also offers RCM enterprise capability. IFS Applications keeps customers and suppliers fully informed so that they can check the implications of any reschedule requirement particularly relevant in a PBL contracting environment. The solution also allows customers and suppliers to respond quickly, whether to react to ship availability, approve/respond to quotations or tasking, view the status of a work orders, receive purchase orders, show availability of parts, or update their delivery times.
MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT 7 I NEED TO SUPPORT REGULATION & COMPLIANCE Managing regulations and compliance is an essential capability needed by any modern maritime support organization. Be it export control management or conformance to international maintenance standards, a solution is needed to support the planning office, or the shop floor, in the dockyard or onboard ship. IFS Applications offers specific modules that deliver auditable traceability of all tasks performed at all stages of work execution and through full integration between the maintenance planning and execution functions What do I need to do?, How should I do it?, and How have I done it?. Maintenance planners can schedule and control compliance according to customer operational needs. IFS also has a full export control capability (including ITAR) allowing suppliers with multi-site/ geographical operations to manage export products and regulations. I NEED TO KNOW WHICH ASSETS TO MANAGE Knowing when components or sub-assemblies require, or are likely to require, maintenance checks can provide a distinct advantage. This enables you to plan current maintenance with forward operational tasking, e.g. once returned to service, the asset has the maximum number of operational hours required by the operator. IFS Applications provides a fleet and asset management capability that fully integrates with other functions, allowing you to integrate the configuration, maintenance and program management of assets with your fleet and its planned and tasked operations. I NEED TO SUPPORT COMPLEX CONTRACTING ARRANGEMENTS As maritime operators strive to reduce cost, they are seeking innovative ways to contract for the capabilities provided by service providers as a contribution to these reductions. IFS can support increased maritime industrial participation and performance-based contracting arrangements such as PBL, CLS, CfA, COM and SLA contracts in this aftermarket sector. I NEED TO WORK WITH COMPLEX PROGRAMS AND ORGANIZATIONS I need to remove risk and be agile when contracting into complex government and private sector organisations. The IFS component architecture removes risk from complex programs and aligns well with government organizations in the maritime support industry: Only purchase functionality for the now organisations have a route to a full enterprise solution when required. Support staged bid/approvals processes and minimize early risk when requirements are immature Open architecture no vendor lock-in, and IFS can coexist easily with legacy and other vendor systems. I NEED REAL-TIME PROJECT FOLLOW-UP Project detail needs to be managed at every level of the work or cost breakdown structure and managers need to look at near real-time project data and future performance projections In IFS Applications, costs and revenue are budgeted, tracked and compared not only in the general ledger but project-by-project. This ensures real-time follow-up and tracking of incurred and actual costs, with reliable forecasting, both detailed and overall, as well as the ability to compare the latest project forecast with budget and previous forecast. IFS Corporate Performance Management also ensures operational and strategic follow-up. I NEED TO INTEGRATE MY ENTERPRISE Effective integration across a maritime support enterprise is key to business success IFS Applications is an advanced asset management and maintenance solution with full enterprise breadth capabilities, from maintenance engineering, configuration planning and execution to warranty handling, supply chain logistics, cost tracking and business support functions. Using open standards the solution can easily integrate with existing applications. IFS Corporate Performance Management gives a maritime enterprise a 360 degree view of operational business processes and performance value chains.
8 MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT PROJECTS DRIVE EVERYTHING For most suppliers to the maritime support industry, projects are the cornerstone of their business. Given their impact across the value chain, project-based parameters should control and determine schedules for engineering, procurement, document delivery, jobsetting and fabrication. IFS Applications is a real project-driven solution, where the project itself is the engine, ensuring highlevel visibility and transparency throughout your enterprise. The solution provides full flexibility for projects of all sizes and degrees of complexity, and templates can be made for all variations. The work breakdown structure (WBS) includes all activities that will be conducted across disciplines, with documentation, purchasing and fabrication in one common structure. You can easily see the correlation between when documentation must be completed, and when purchasing and fabrication can begin. Project managers can easily track progress, costs and revenue related to the different activities. The project itself is the engine in IFS Applications and drives the deliverables (document packages, purchase orders, jobs etc).
MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT 9 INCREASE SERVICE REVENUE AND REDUCE OPERATIONAL DOWNTIME IFS offers maritime owner-operators and service contractors an integrated industry solution for sound management of operations, maintenance and service requirements for dockyards, ports or on board ships. In the maritime support industry where any downtime directly impacts the bottom line or operational effectiveness or both long-term management and maintenance of assets is critical. Any contractor that performs service, upgrades or lifecycle extension on assets is met with strict quality requirements and demands. IFS offers asset owners and service contractors a maritime industry solution for more effective processes, increased service revenue and ultimately reduced downtime. Integrating project management, material management/logistics, maintenance planning, work/service order management, resource allocation, document management, financial and performance measurement, as well as human resource management, IFS Applications is all you ever need to effectively manage your maritime service and operations. Asset Data Management provides complete control of all your equipment including maintenance history as well as planned maintenance.
10 MARITIME CAPABILITY SUPPORT MANAGE ENGINEERING AND PROCUREMENT CHANGES Integration of engineering and purchasing/fabrication with other disciplines is always beneficial, but absolutely essential for maritime support industry contractors. IFS Applications includes a central repository for multi-discipline engineering data, shared throughout the enterprise, ensuring efficient and error-free data handovers from engineering to purchasing, fabrication to installation and in the event of last-minute design changes from engineering to installation. This level of integration delivers detailed tracking of those difficult and unexpected project changes. These changes are often difficult to manage because when there are design changes, it is not the part numbers that change, but rather the attributes of those part numbers, the documents attached to the part numbers and the tagged information. With comprehensive product data management, real two-way CAD integrations and integrated document management, IFS Applications efficiently supports your engineering and design processes. Working in a single system, electrical, mechanical and structural engineers share information, no matter what design tools are used. This encourages collaboration, removes approval-cycle bottlenecks by putting all relevant information at managers fingertips, and streamlines document review. The IFS-unique multidiscipline Engineering Register functionality in combination with the integrated procurement and fabrication functionality results in more efficient processes, enhanced traceability and reduced material and change cost.
