FOREWORD The gang problem in California is continuing to escalate dramatically. In an effort to assist in deterring gang violence, the state legislature established the Gang Violence Suppression (GVS) Program, administered by the Office of Criminal Justice Planning (OCJP). Through this program, OCJP funds anti-gang projects which involve law enforcement, prosecution, probation, prevention, education, and community based organizations. In addition, the GVS branch of OCJP serves as a clearinghouse of infonnation on gang violence and anti-gang strategies. The California Statewide Directory was created to assist with the coordination and communication among anti-gang organizations statewide. This directory includes all of the anti-gang efforts known to OCJP regardless of funding source. We hope you will use this resource book to network with those in your community who are working to reduce gang activity. We have designed the directory so that you will be able to reproduce it for further distribution. Together we can reduce duplication of effort, while strengthening programs and activities within each community. If you have any additional infonnation that could be included in the directory, please call the GVS Branch at (916) 327-3682. Any corrections or new information will be included in future issues of the directory. Thank you for your involvement in anti-gang efforts in your community. -----
