UNI Admission s Office, 002 Gilchrist Hall, Cedar Falls, Iowa, 50614-0018 How Often?? o Students should request one transcript be sent during Week 4 of UNI s semester and a second transcript be sent as soon as community college grades are reported on the transcript. WHY? o Admission to UNI/Teacher Education and your registration in UNI courses may be delayed or denied if the UNI Registrar s Office does not have a record of your enrollment in the required and/or pre-requisite courses at another institution BEFORE YOU ENROLL IN UNI 2+2 COURSES READ the UNI Catalog for complete details about the latest Elementary Requirements and University Policies. You can locate the online catalog at: http://catalog.uni.edu/ TEACHER EDUCATION INDUCTION CONVOCATION at UNI After your admission to the UNI Teacher Education, your family and you will be invited to attend a ceremony to celebrate your achievement! Plan to attend this event in the Fall or Spring Semester! Find the dates at: http://www.uni.edu/teachered/ It is held in the Gallagher- Bluedorn Performing Arts Center on UNI s campus in Cedar Falls. Students arrive at 3:15pm and the ceremony begins with the entering of the teacher candidates at 4:00pm. Refreshments are available after the ceremony ends at about 5:30pm. STUDENT REQUEST FORMS Special requests such as course-substitution OR waiver of a course or program requirement, must be made using a Student Request Form. All SRFs should be sent to the 2+2 Academic Advisor for an initial recommendation decision. Note: The most common SRF submission from 2+2 students is for the Field Experience (TEACHING 2017) to be waived. Those 2+2 students who are currently or have been recently employed in an Iowa DE-approved PK-Grade 12 school setting AND who need credit for TEACHING 2017 may apply for a waiver. These students must secure a letter from his/her supervisor on business letterhead (with email and phone contact information) detailing the length of employment, age level of students, duties engaged in, and quality of the work performed. The SRF and supporting documentation should be sent to the 2+2 Academic Advisor for initial recommendation. If approved, the Advisor will send the request to the appropriate parties for their decision. You should check your records on MyUNIverse for evidence of course approval. Contact the 2+2 Academic Advisor or the UNI Registrar s Office with questions about course substitutions. Allow 4-weeks for this form to be processed. ONE YEAR PRIOR TO STUDENT TEACHING Students MUST: o (1) Attend Student Teaching Round-Up for 2+2 Students. o (2) The requirements to be eligible for student teaching can be found at the Office of Student Field Experiences website: http://www.uni.edu/coe/departments/office-student-field-experiences/information-students Before you student teach, you must have completed the following requirements: o A) FULLY admitted to UNI-Teacher Education program; o B) certified in High Risk Behaviors/Substance Abuse training; o C) cumulative GPA 2.5+ on work at all colleges and universities; o D) UNI GPA 2.5+; o E) department/major GPA 2.5+; o F) Professional Education Required (PER) courses 2.5+ GPA and C- or above; o G) ALL METHODS courses C or higher; and o H) Successful completion of Level II, acceptable professional dispositions, and availability of placement. GENERAL 2+2 INFORMATION ** 2+2 students are expected to complete an Associate of Arts (AA) degree at a local community college to satisfy UNI Liberal Art Core requirements. ** Prior completion of a Bachelor of Arts degree satisfies ALL UNI Liberal Arts Core requirements. ** This is a PROPOSED SEQUENCE OF COURSES; enrollment numbers and faculty availability will dictate if there is more than one section of any given course. **Admission to UNI-TE of three to six students per site is expected. **This is a cohort program with each semester of courses building upon the prior semester of coursework. Adequate GPA and prerequisite completion is required for registration in the next semester s courses. **TWELVE HOUR LOADS: You may enroll in community college courses if you need to carry a 12-hr. load except during the student teaching semester. **Student enrollment at each individual community college campus will be used to determine if more than one section of each course will be offered.
