2015 highlights Breast Cancer Awareness, Bedazzle Your Bra Week Without Violence Miles of Smiles Guest reader in our Early Learning Center. president & executive director message The YWCA of Schenectady dba the YWCA NorthEastern NY has a long and proud history in the community. During 2015, we celebrated 127 years of providing needed and valuable programs and services for women and their families. The YW continues the tradition of being an innovator in providing programs and services to meet the changing needs of women and their families in our community. Continued leadership and participation with the Schenectady County Embraces Diversity (SCED) Study Circle Initiative, hosting the 21st Annual Unsung Heroine/ Black History Month Celebration, the Take Back the Night March, the Week Without Violence, the Pink and Purple Ribbon Campaigns, the Golf Tournament, the Festival of Trees, the Early Learning Center s Spring Carnival and Fall Festival, a Zumbathon, and the Women of Achievement Celebration and Dinner were some of the events and activities that were presented to our membership and the community. Throughout the year, we challenged people to take a stand against violence and racism, appreciate diversity and celebrate unity. During 2015 we once again strengthened the inseparable relationship between programs/services and funding. Financial support is a measure of the community s valuation of the YWCA of Schenectady dba the YWCA NorthEastern NY we are pleased to announce that funding levels were increased in 2015. We thank our corporate sponsors, our many contributors in the community and our membership. The strategic goals of the YW revolve around this mission, and the Board of Directors and staff of the YW work towards their fulfillment on a daily basis. history history The YWCA of Schenectady, dba YWCA NorthEastern NY (NENY), has a long and proud history. Since 1888, the YWCA NorthEastern NY has been a constant innovator in providing programs and services to meet the changing needs of women and their families in the community. The Board of Directors understands and encourages the YW s role as an agent for change that quickly reviews and responds to community situations as they arise. The YWCA NorthEastern NY diligently strives to offer programs and services that initiate action to bring about positive change. 2015 highlights Junior League of Schenectady and Saratoga Counties, donating feminine hygiene products, Distributing Discreet Dignity Project. The YWCA NorthEastern NY was established as a women s membership association and became one of the first nonprofit agencies to be incorporated in New York State. The YWCA NENY is a Charter member of the YWCA USA (the oldest and largest women s membership organization in the world). During 2015, the YWCA with its headquarters in the Stockade section of Schenectady, NY, served over 10,000 women, men and children through a variety of programs and services - 78% of whom are low-income. The original incorporation papers stated that the functions of the YWCA NorthEastern NY were: 1. housing; 2. education; and 3. health promotion services. In 1979, the incorporation papers were expanded to allow for a domestic violence shelter for women and children. In 1985, they were again expanded to allow for early childhood education (preschool/child care). Throughout its 127 year history, the YWCA has offered valuable programs and activities for the benefit of women and their families in the Schenectady community. The YWCA NorthEastern NY has continued to successfully expand throughout the years in response to the changing and growing needs of the community. Unsung Heroine Celebration Community donations for our domestic violence program. YWCA Resident s enjoying the Soroptimist International of Schenectady Holiday Party.

- 2015 highlights 2015 annual program report Women of Achievement Celebration Annual Meeting, celebrating volunteers. Women & Family Services Provided 204 women & 74 children shelter for domestic violence issues Advocacy served 2,768 women 857 women and 162 children received counseling services 122 women called the YW home in our Housing Program YES - YWCA s Employment Services worked with 268 women. Youth & Family Services Educated and cared for 106 children in our Early Childhood Educational Centers Hosted Thanksgiving Dinner for 124+ families NAEYC Accredited at both sites. Visit with Santa during Festival of Trees. Innovative Programs Wellness Center served 12,907 in 2015 Encore: Take Charge of Your Health provided 891 women with educational materials and cancer screenings CASH Program assisted 1,516 individuals and families with filing their tax returns free of charge.
