Seminary Registration Online User s Guide Introduction Seminary Registration Online is a self-service web-based tool for parents and guardians of seminaryaged youth to register their youth for seminary. It also provides important seminary registration tools for bishoprics, clerks, stake priesthood leaders, and those in stake seminary callings. Parents and guardians are asked to specify the school and grade for each eligible student, update their contact information, and accept a required parental agreement. For ward and stake leaders, Seminary Registration Online allows them to see which seminary-aged youth have registered and gives them the ability to send an email reminder to the parents of the unregistered youth. Seminary Registration Online will expedite the registration process and give seminary administrators more accurate potential enrollment information. Seminary Registration Online has many features and functionality. Below is a basic user s guide to help navigate the system more quickly and to answer some common questions. If further questions arise about Seminary Registration Online, please contact a local seminary teacher or administrator, or contact the LDS Church Global Service Center at cservices@ldschurch.org. If you are experiencing technical difficulties, please refer to our known bugs and issues page before sending in the feedback. Thanks. What if an individual does not wish to register online or does not have Internet access? If a parent or guardian does not wish to register online but still wants to register his or her youth in seminary, click here to download and print a registration form, or obtain the paper registration form from a ward or stake leader or a local seminary teacher. This form will need to be filled out, signed, and returned to the local seminary program. NOTE: For those who live in areas where released time is available for seminary students If released time is an option, please make sure that it is in the student s academic schedule at school. This step must be completed in addition to filling out the seminary registration form online.
Logging In Seminary Registration Online can be found at seminary.lds.org/register. Parents click the Sign In button in the top right of the page, and enter their valid LDS Account credentials to log in. If you do not have an LDS account, you can get one at ldsaccount.lds.org. Youth Information Boxes When parents, guardians, and ward leaders log into Seminary Registration Online, they will be presented with a list of seminary-aged youth. For parents, it will be the seminary-aged youth (those turning 14 through 18-year-olds) living in their household according to Church membership records. For ward leaders, the list will be seminary-aged youth in the ward. When stake leaders and S&I employees log into Seminary Registration Online, they will be able to navigate to a specific ward s list of seminaryaged youth. Each youth in the list is presented in their own box (pictured below) or student information card, which users are asked to update. This virtual card will have the youth s name, birthday, grade in school for the coming school year, and school which he or she plans to attend. Parents and guardians are also presented with a check box to indicate if the youth is planning to attend seminary or (for released-time students) if release time is or will be in their school schedule. If the school information in the student card is missing or incorrect, the correct information may be input by selecting an option in the dropdown menus.
Specifying grade in school Please verify, or change if not correct, the grade in school for the youth for the coming school year using the drop down menu below the student s name. If the youth is in eighth grade or lower, please select 8 or lower. If the youth will be graduated from high school in the coming school year, please select GRAD. These individuals are not currently eligible for seminary. Graduates are encouraged to register for an institute class in their local area. Selecting school attending If ninth through twelfth grade is selected for a youth, specify which school the student will be attending with the drop-down menu below the grade selector. If the student is being home-schooled, select Home School near the top of the list of schools. Otherwise, the menu presents a list of nearby schools. If the youth will be attending one of those schools, please select it. If you do not see the student s school on the list, select School not found, Search for it, and a search box will be presented for you to search through the entire database of schools. Click on the search box and start typing the name of the school to perform a school search. As you do so, schools in the database that match your query will be presented. The search feature also provides a search radius that you can specify. The search will only look for schools within that radius, so increase or decrease the distance as necessary. If you are unable to find the student s school by searching, then select Use school name I provided, the final entry in the search results drop-down. The Seminary Registration application will then use the name of the school you entered for the student and will add that school to the database so others can find it in the future.
If a youth is missing from your list If there are youth who do not show up in their household or ward on this list, contact the ward clerk about the situation. Seminary Registration pulls the list of seminary-aged youth directly from Church membership records, which are maintained by your ward in MLS. Once the clerk clears up any membership record issues and the seminary-aged youth are listed in the correct household or ward, those records should appear in the Seminary Registration application. Parents and Guardians Parents and guardians have additional features and tasks in Seminary Registration Online regarding contact information and signing the parental agreement. Parent/guardian contact information Below the student information card(s) is a section for parents or guardians to provide accurate contact information. They can provide contact information for two individuals (primary and secondary), including contact method preferences. This information may or may not be the same as the contact information on users Church MLS records. Changing this contact information will not affect the ward s or branch s MLS contact information. This contact information is for use only by the seminary program. Review agreement and submit registration Parents or guardians are asked to review and accept an agreement, then click I Agree. Finish Registration to complete the registration process. This will send information to the local seminary program representatives so they can place your youth in a seminary class in the upcoming school year. You should then be taken back to the top of the screen where a message that says Success should appear in a light green bar. If any changes need to be made thereafter, in any of the above explained areas, you will then click the Update Registration button to save the changes.
Ward and Stake Leaders and S&I Employees Ward and stake leaders, those in stake seminary callings, and Seminaries and Institutes of Religion (S&I) employees have additional features and tasks in Seminary Registration Online, which are outlined in this section. Please note that all uses of the terms stake and ward also apply to branches and districts, and references to bishops also apply to branch presidents. These stake and ward leaders and approved S&I employees can use the Seminary Registration application to see which students in their stewardship have registered for seminary and send email reminders to the parents or guardians of those who have not. These users can also verify and update specific pieces of information for students in their units, such as grade in school and school attending, but they cannot sign the agreement or fully register students. Only parents or guardians can do so. Stake and ward leader access Leaders on the stake level who have access to Seminary Registration Online are the stake president, his two counselors, the stake clerk, the stake executive secretary, the stake clerk over membership, high councilors, stake seminary supervisors, and stake called seminary teachers. The leaders on the ward level who have access to Seminary Registration Online are the bishop, his two counselors, the ward clerk, the ward executive secretary, and the ward membership clerk. Stake summary page Upon logging in, stake leaders will be taken to a stake summary page unless they are also a parent, in which case they will be taken to the parent view previously discussed (see the section below about switching between multiple roles). This page provides the number of eligible seminary students in the stake and wards, as well as the number of youth who have had a parent or guardian complete seminary registration. (Please note that youth in eighth grade or lower or who have graduated high school are not counted in the totals.) In the top left corner of the stake summary page is a drop-down menu listing all the wards in the stake. Stake leaders can use this menu to navigate to individual ward pages listing all seminary-aged youth by name and registration status. Clicking on the name of the ward on the stake summary page will also take users to the individual ward page.
Ward list of students Upon logging in, ward leaders will be taken directly to their ward page. Stake leaders and S&I employees have navigation options to go to a specific ward. On the ward page, each seminary-aged youth will be listed with his or her own student card. Different options on the student cards will be available depending on their registration status: Registered: If a parent or guardian has registered the student, a green check mark will show in the top right-hand corner of the card. Unregistered: If a parent or guardian has not registered the youth, there will not be a green check mark. If seminary records indicate that we have an email address for a parent or guardian, a blue envelope will show in the top right-hand corner of the student card. Click on this icon to send a reminder email directly to parents.
Sorting the ward list of students Ward and stake leaders and S&I employees can sort the student information cards by name, age, grade, or school. To do this, simply select the gear icon at the top right-hand corner of the page, and then select Show Students by Age, Show Students by Grade, etc. The gear menu also gives options to filter out registered students, thus allowing more focused efforts on the youth who are not registered. Emailing parents/guardians Ward and stake leaders and S&I employees can email all of the parents or guardians of eligible seminary students in a given ward by selecting the gear icon in the top right-hand corner of the page and then selecting Email Parents/Guardians. They can also email the parents of specific youth by clicking the email icon in the right-hand corner on the student card.
Printing The stake summary page and individual ward student lists have been formatted for friendly printing. To print one of these pages, simply select the gear icon at the top right-hand corner of the page and then select Print This Page. Other Menu Options Switching between multiple roles Many people who will access the Seminary Registration application will have multiple roles. For example, an individual could be both a ward and stake leader and a parent of a seminary-aged youth. In such cases, the sandwich menu at the top right-hand corner will allow for switching between the parent view and the leader view. Upon logging in, parents of seminary-aged youth will initially be brought to the parent view. To switch to the leader view, simply click the sandwich menu, and then under Role, select Priesthood Leader. To go back to the parent view, do the same thing: click the sandwich menu, and under Role, select Parent.
S&I employee view Upon logging in, S&I employees will be brought to a page that allows them to find specific stakes and wards within their stewardship. S&I employees who also have the role of parent or leader will be taken to one of those views initially on login, but they can use the sandwich menu to navigate to the S&I employee view. In the search for a unit or program field, the S&I employee view allows users to search for a specific ward or stake that feeds into their S&I program. In the search box, begin typing the name of the ward or stake and a drop down list of units will appear for you to choose from. When selecting a ward list of youth, employees will have the same options as ward and stake leaders to input the grade in school or school attending for the youth. Help token If you have problems with Seminary Registration Online that require contacting the Church help desk, you may receive a token, or ticket number, from them which will be a unique set of letters and numbers. The help desk will send you the token via email. Entering this token into the spot indicated in the Help menu will enable the help desk personnel to securely access your personal information and address the issue you are facing.
