Practicum and internship opportunities are typically available during normal business hours, so students should prepare for this career transition early. Our sixty credit hour program emphasizes both didactic and affective experiences which culminate in the Master s of Education degree. An overarching theme of Mental Health Counseling Program curriculum is critical thinking as it relates to understanding the unique experiences and counseling needs of all people, especially low-income and African-American individuals, groups, families, and populations. In addition, the program adheres to the Council of Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Program (CACREP) standards. Licensure in Mental Health Counseling affords the greatest flexibility in the job market for those who desire a career in providing clinical services at the Master s level. Individuals may choose to work for private or public agencies and always have the option of self-employment. Our challenging curriculum and 1,000 hours of practicum and internship experience prepare students to work in a variety of settings. The Program utilizes a rolling admissions format. All applicants must have a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher for the last sixty hours of undergraduate work attempted and a combined score (verbal and quantitative) of 1,000 or higher on the Graduate record Exam (GRE).
