1 RN/BSN/MSN APPLICATION CHECKLIST APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION TO THE SCHOOL OF NURSING 1. Nonrefundable $30 application fee 2. Completed School of Nursing application 3. Official copy(ies) of secondary school transcript(s) Minimum overall GPA for RN-BSN 2.5 and RN-MSN 3.0 on a 4.0 scale 4. Three completed School of Nursing recommendation forms of which two must be professional references 5. Completion of the Health & Immunization form including results of TB testing, physical examination and signature of physician, A.R.N.P. or P.A. 6. Documentation of CPR/BCLS certification 7. Florida license to practice nursing 8. Current driver s license 9. Analytical Essay RN-MSN PROGRAM: All of the above-mentioned documents and official copy of Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score; a composite score of 900 or more on verbal and quantitative sections. Students not meeting these requirements may be admitted on conditional status for six MSN credit hours. All applications and official transcript of undergraduate and graduate work must be on file in the School of Nursing office prior to initial registration.

2 Application for Admission the RN/BSN/MSN Nursing Programs Application Instructions Please read the School of Nursing application and instruction sheet carefully. Failure to complete every item and to follow each instruction may delay processing of the application. Contact the RN Coordinator at the School of Nursing for any questions, It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure all requested documents are submitted in a timely manner and that the applicant s file is complete. In order to be eligible for admission to the School of Nursing, the applicant must be accepted for admission to Jacksonville University. If application of JU admission has not been made (or for readmission if the applicant previously has been enrolled at JU), please submit the Jacksonville University Application form to the Office of Admissions as soon as possible. The JU admissions application is available form the University s admissions office located at 2800 University Boulevard North, Jacksonville, Florida, , telephone or (toll free). You may also download the form from the JU website: DEADLINES: The School of Nursing application and all supporting documents must be received by the School of Nursing by the following deadlines: FALL - June 30 SPRING - November 20 SUMMER - March 30 Applicants will not be considered for admittance to the School of Nursing until all required information has been returned and the applicant s file is complete. All correspondence relative to the School of Nursing should be addressed to: RN Coordinator Jacksonville University School of Nursing 2800 University Boulevard North, Jacksonville, FL Applicants should retain a copy of the application and all supporting materials since the School of Nursing will not return any of these materials. As part of the admission process, each applicant is required to interview with the School of Nursing Admissions Committee. The Coordinator of Nursing will contact each qualified applicant to schedule an interview after each program application deadline. Each student registered in clinical nursing courses must have adequate hospitalization insurance. Such insurance is available through the University student health plan offered on campus or from private providers. Enrolled students are also encouraged to obtain flu immunization each year. APPLICATION FOR ADMISSION Admission is open to qualified men and women of any race, color, religion, and national or ethnic origin. Graduate admission is processed through the School of Nursing. To be considered for admission, potential students must submit the following items: Application Graduation from an accredited BSN nursing program. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities. Current Florida registered nurse license. Out of state applicants must be eligible for endorsement in Florida. International students must hold a current license from a U.S. state and be eligible for endorsement in Florida. TOEFL (minimum score of 650) if the applicants primary language is not English. Three recommendations. Two professional references. References should be from a supervisor familiar with the student s clinical abilities and if possible an educator who taught the student. Essay: will discuss a personal statement describing reasons for pursuing an advanced degree and professional goals. Interview A $30.00 nonrefundable application fee For RN-MSN applicant, an official copy of your Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score. A composite score of 900 or more on verbal and quantitative sections. Students not meeting these requirements may be admitted on conditional status for six MSN credit hours. The Admissions, Progression and Retention Committee and the Dean of the School of Nursing must approve any exceptions to the preceding requirements.

7 RN-BSN/MSN Analytical Essay Instructions TO THE APPLICANT All new applicants to the Jacksonville University School of Nursing are required (as part of the admissions process) to write 1 (one) page analytical essay. The specifics follow. The one-page essay should follow a continuous paragraph format, be at least 100 words in length and double-spaced. Bullets should not be used. Essays are a critical requirement of the admissions process and are used to determine if the student can properly express their viewpoints in answer to certain questions. Select one of the following topics: 1) How has the Nursing profession changed during your career? What changes would you like to see in the newt 5-10 years? 2) If you could impart only one piece of advice to the next generation, what would it be? 3) Who was the most influential person of the 20 th century? 4) Why do you consider Jacksonville University s RN-BSN program to be a good match for you? What makes Jacksonville University a good college option? What attributes do you have to contribute to the JU community? Which of these factors will weigh most heavily in your college selection process? 5) What has been your most profound or surprising intellectual experience or influence? 6) As an adult student, what reasons have led you to become a student at this time in your life? What are your plans for balancing your responsibilities with the rigors of a demanding nursing program? Tips on writing your essay The analytical essay is a crucial part of the application process for the Jacksonville University s RN to BSN Program- You must put some time and effort into writing this essay, so start them as soon as you order your Official Transcripts. Remember, these are part of your application- don t delay in getting these submitted! The essay must be a minimum of 100 words, double spaced. Spelling and grammar are critical! For extra help in this area, go to the World Wide Web and search for sites that deal with essay writing. Think through what you are going to write and make preliminary notes. Answer the questions directly- don t wander off the subject. When you finish writing the essay, put it away for a day- then go back, read it again, and make necessary changes.
