SALALM 59, titled Who Are We Really?: Latin American Family, Local and Micro-Regional Histories and Their Impact on Understanding Ourselves will focus on family, local and micro-regional historical resources and their place in scholarship and how they inform the discussion on genealogical data, racial & ethnic identity and how that perceived identity conflicts with perceptions of governments. In particular, the conference will examine how libraries are discovering, acquiring, organizing, and promoting these historical resources; how scholars are using them to provide context for understanding macro-level socioeconomic, historic and demographic patterns in Latin America; and how interested individuals are using these primary and secondary resources to understand themselves. Panels will include scholarly presentations related to the conference theme and will also include papers on practical issues of librarianship related to the topic.
