Medical Defence Union 133274 The Bar Council - 60693 ACCREDITATION Completion of Higher Specialist Training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery- September 1994 SUMMARY OF CAREER TO DATE Registered with both the General Medical Council (3355215) and the General Dental Council (51613), I held a number of clinical posts over 30 years initially as a General Dental Practitioner followed by acute hospital junior medical and dental posts and from 1995 I held the post of Consultant Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to the United Lincolnshire Hospitals (ULH) NHS Trust until October 2009 at which time I held the maximum number (9) of local Clinical Excellence Awards. As a Consultant Surgeon I practised the full range of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery but I founded and lead for ten years a Multidisciplinary Head and Neck Oncology Team which was a new service for the county created from existing resources to meet national and local network standards. Nationally I served as Chairman of the Clinical Effectiveness Sub committee of the British Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons from 2006 for two years. Apart from my lead clinician role for my specialty and for Head and Cancer Services, I have held a number of medical management roles including Director of Cancer Services and Clinical Director of Planned Care for ULH Trust. As Clinical Director I was part of a triumvirate including a General Manager and Head Nurse responsible for a Directorate with an GBP 80M budget and over 140 Consultants and Staff and Associate Specialist doctors. I held that post for three years from April 2007 to April 2010. As a medical manager I developed an interest in Conduct and Capability and Appraisal and Revalidation issues and have trained doctors and managers on these subjects. In April 2010 I was awarded "Advanced Medical Manager" on completion of the British Association of Medical Managers "Fit to Lead Programme" I currently provide expert advice to both the General Medical Council and the General Dental Council on Fitness to Practice matters as well as on instruction from solicitors in personal injury litigation as part of my expert witness work. From early 2013 until May 2015 I was a volunteer for the help line service of the charity Action against Medical Accidents (AvMA). Since my early retirement from the NHS in 2010 I have obtained a Graduate Diploma in Law from the University of Lincoln (2011) and have passed the Bar Professional Training Course at Nottingham Law School who also awarded me a graduate LLB (2012). I have on several occasions appeared in court as a professional witness in criminal cases and have been asked to provide expert evidence. I have given evidence to General Dental Council Professional Conduct Committees both as a Professional Witness and as an Expert Witness for the Council.
