GETTING TO GOLDSMITHS, UNIVERSITY OF LONDON This document has useful information about getting to Goldsmiths University where the 20 th ENCATC Annual Conference, Networked Culture will be held from 12-14 September 2012. GET AN OYSTER CARD Before you start travel in Central London purchase an OYSTER CARD this will give you half price travel. Buy the option that allows you to top up as you go you essentially just put money on the card and then use it on underground and overground trains as well as busses within London. Note London is very large, you will need to allow plenty of time for travel. The Tube map is a diagram not a real map so distances between stations that look close maybe much longer. Often the overground train is quicker than the underground. TAXIS BLACK LONDON TAXIS are very reliable [drivers have to take many tests to get a license] but they are not cheap. Do not rely on seeing one to get from Goldsmiths into the centre of London, you can hail them in the street. New Cross mini cab service we recommend Speedy Cabs 02086926555. This 1/5
company is reliable we suggest you ask to be collected from the front entrance (car park) of the college, Or from Loring Hall the student accommodation. IT IS ESSENTIAL YOU DO NOT CALL A CAB AND THEN NOT USE IT. They will take your mobile number and call you when they have arrived. The fares are fixed. Unless you order a people carrier they can only take 4 people, check when ordering. You cannot stop them in the street ON FOOT Walking Directions from New Cross Gate Station to Goldsmiths Goldsmiths is just a 5-minute walk from New Cross Gate Station.
