Why an Italian? Italy is home to many successful business ventures which constitute the internal engine of its economic system and which are based on the concepts of creativity and entrepreneurship. This phenomenon spans across several industries, from fashion to interior design, from food to retail. The majority of Italy most successful entrepreneurial companies have been substantially influenced by two kinds of skills/competencies: how creative business opportunities are identified and built into real companies how resources are matched with creativity and opportunity Botta Palace - Historical location of the University of Pavia's Animal Biology Department. Built in XIX century, the palace reflects the Italian Renaissance style, with a bizarre touch: two minarets are located on the palace's sides. Today there is not a training programme which is able to formalize and transfer these competencies That s why Multimedia Campus Università di Pavia has decided to develop a Master Programme entirely devoted to the issues of creativity and entrepreneurship. San Felice Monastery - Originally built as a monastery, this building is today home of the University of Pavia's Department of Philosophy. The church is being studied by the Research Centre on the Cultural Heritage Preservation. 3
Objectives and motivations The aims at providing students with the analytical tools and business ideas needed to launch a successful venture and to sustain its growth in the long-run. We are looking for outstanding, creative and highly motivated students willing to undertake an entrepreneurial career by pursuing innovative opportunities. There is not a specific or ideal type of candidate for this Master. We welcome application from individuals with as many diverse backgrounds as possible. Curriculum The Master s curriculum is composed of 3 building blocks, providing a unique mix of theory and reallife analysis. Teaching methodology combines online and classroom learning, giving students high flexibility and personalization. Curriculum Online courses Students are requested to complete the online courses within 6 months. Courses will be distributed through Multimedia Campus s state-of-the-art Learning Management System, which enables the continuous tracking of activities performed by students. In addition to contents from University of Pavia, many specialised courses will be provided by specialised institutions: Columbia University (New York, USA) will provide courses on marketing and management Harvard University (Boston, USA) will provide multimedia courses on creativity and innovation Zoologic (New York, USA) will provide finance and accounting courses BBC (London, UK) will provide business lessons as a senior management learning tool Courses will be in English. A good knowledge of English is required to attend the Master. No knowledge of Italian is required. Residential courses Residential courses are mandatory for all students and will take place at University of Pavia. Lessons will be held fulltime (6 hours per day) for 4 days per week. Fridays will be free from lessons in order to give students time to complete coursework and teamwork, and to participate in extra-curricular activities. Classes will be held by: University of Pavia s full professors Visitors and testimonials representing the most innovative and creative entrepreneurial ideas coming from the Italian economic system Lectures and class discussions will be in English. A good knowledge of English is required to attend the Master. No knowledge of Italian is required. 6

Networking with Italian entrepreneurs Students will be encouraged to transfer to their home countries real business opportunities presented by visitors and testimonials during residential courses. An ongoing support will be provided to students by Italian entrepreneurs after they return home and start their own ventures. Evaluating Enterpreneurial Opportunities Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Entrepreneurial Finance Managing Growing Enterprises Marketing strategy for high-growth companies XVIII Century Dome - Designed by Italian architect Piermarini, the dome is a landmark for the University of Pavia's buildings located in the city centre. 7
Didactic methodology Online learning Online learning is based on multimedia interactive courses which are easily accessible through the internet: Slides, images and animations support the audio-video lessons taught by academic professors Exercises, tests and simulations mark crucial points of the learning path Didactic materials to print out Glossary, bibliography and links are useful to gain additional insights Real-time updates are posted on the Master s website Discussion areas (forum, email messaging, ) help students to share their ideas and opinions "Statues" court - This is the central court of the University of Pavia. The statues represent professors which highly contributed to the University's reputation: Luigi Porta, Antonio Bordoni, Bartolomeo Panizza and Camillo Golgi. Classroom learning Classroom learning takes place at University of Pavia and is led by its world-renowned faculty: Case situations from the point of view of the entrepreneur rather than the passive investor Business simulations with high interactivity between the students and the instructor Many cases and simulations are led by visitors (Italian successful entrepreneurs), who give the perspective of the entrepreneur who must understand and lead an entire enterprise Real business opportunities drawn from Italy are offered to students, who are encouraged to transfer them to their home countries. In this case, ongoing support is provided to them after they return home 8
Additional resources and services During the residential part of the programme (three months) many cultural activities will be organized, such as: Business trips to successful Italian ventures, led by tutors Weekend trips to most famous Italian cities, led by professional guides Italian language course 6 hours per week, led by Italian professors specialised in teaching Italian as a second language In addition, housing opportunities in Pavia's colleges will be provided to students in order to facilitate their integration within the university campus. Aula Magna - A charming example of neoclassical architecture, this is the location of the most important ceremonies which take part at University of Pavia, such as commencement celebration and international guests welcoming. Via Cardano - This is one of the most charming streets of Pavia's historic centre. It is named after Girolamo Cardano who taught mathematics, astronomy and philosophy at Pavia's University from 1543 to 1560 a.d. 9
