JOB OPPORTUNITY Program and Services Advisor POSITION: Under the supervision and authority of the executive director, the Programs and Services Advisor is responsible to provide clinical expertise, advice, leadership and support to the Organisation s workforce in the consistent delivery of a high quality, client centered service that responds to the needs of the clients and families we serve. JOB DESCTRIPTION: The programs and services advisor position supervises the activities and staff associated with providing substance abuse and best practice counseling approaches within block programming and prevention programming. Conducts performance review and holds employees accountable for performance of their positions Provides support for substance abuse program activities including providing activity reports, reviewing the files of subordinates to ensure accurate and timely documentation, and creating an environment which supports the mission of the program Oversees substance abuse counseling activities Reviews and selects new instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse program Provides continual opportunities to increase the knowledge and skills of the substance abuse counselors Provides reports and presentations on substance abuse Maintains a professional working relationship with other agencies and communities Develops and updates clinical policies and procedures, treatment manuals and training curriculum, as needed Performs other duties as assigned (intake, admissions, clinical meetings)

JOB DESCRIPTION Position: Programs and Services Advisor Responsible to: Executive Director Purpose Under the supervision and authority of the Executive Director, the Programs and Services Advisor is responsible to provide clinical expertise, advice, leadership and support to the Organisation s workforce in the consistent delivery of a high quality, client centered service that responds to the needs of the clients and families we serve. This oversight and development and all actions must be informed and guided by the Centre Walgwan Centers Mission Statement. The quality of services to our clients requires that the Programs and Services Advisor have hands on approach in the monitoring and delivery of services. Key Responsibilities Support the delivery of high quality, client centered care and support services. Oversee and provide advice regarding the clinical aspects associated with high risk clients needs and complex cases. Oversee and support clinical staff in their professional development and in the requirement to operate within professional boundaries and adhere to the organisations policies and procedures. Provide support and advice in relation to clinical evaluation/screening within the scope of withdrawal symptoms, aggression or danger to others; potential for self-inflicted harm or suicide; and coexisting mental health problems. Support the development of new models of intervention and ensuring continuity for the organisation, including providing input into the development of modernization of programs, regional strategies, and training programs. Maintain own professional credibility, accountability and development. Key Accountabilities Help to drive improvements in quality of care Clinical risk is minimised by regular supervision meetings and monitoring Clinical expertise and advice is shared where appropriate with others within the organisation, to ensure correct care is delivered by the appropriate member of staff Workers are supported with their own personal professional development and recognition plans Ensure clinical records are consistent and well documented at all levels Ensure that policies and procedures are reviewed and aligned to relevant statutory documents / standards Evaluate if clinical staff is working within their scope of practice and competency framework

Support Innovation models of intervention within the addictions field and service design is fostered and promoted Performance Outcomes Clinical support and advice is provided to staff to ensure clinical standards required by the organisation are met Guidance, support and where required oversight into the development of treatment plans, provide direction and support for finding materials and the means in achieving the objectives The provision of support services to all clients is monitored effectively in guiding supporting educators / attendants regarding specific interventions during crisis Regular supervision of all clinical staff is provided to ensure assistance is delivered in all difficult and ethical decision making Executive Director and Team Leader are made aware of all identified clinical risks, and receive advice and support for their mitigation Regular clinical audits of clients files are undertaken to safeguard service quality and improvement Strong and supportive relationships are developed and maintained with all referrals, with clinical expertise provided as appropriate to the circumstances Expertise is provided as required to enhance the skills and performance of staff Clinical education/information sessions are developed and shared as an in house education development plan Staff management Input is provided on recruitment decisions Input is provided on performance of clinical staff, as required Other responsibilities Welcoming interviews for all new clients (preparation of binder for the first three weeks of their stay) Orientation of new arrivals, support and coach for the first three weeks, prepare a bio/psych/social report, and may do counselling as required Prepare weekly agendas for the clinical meetings/faxing required reports to referrals for current clients (weekly reports / school reports / privilege requests, etc.) Present all intake reports to clinical team for status Overseeing all family visits and content of the information session with family members Work in collaboration with the team psychologist to present to clients their priority needs

Assist psychologist in the evaluation of the treatment programs components and recommends readjustments when needed to the Executive Director Propose and develop required program and criteria for better functioning of the programs and services Submits on a regular basis a report of clinical and program activities Consults with the Executive Director in order to maintain and formulate standards for the delivery of service Informs and advises the Executive Director on all aspects of the program and clinical services offered Assure effective communication and reflection of the Walgwan Centre`s quality of programs and services Ensure on going provision of outreach services by identifying community needs In collaboration with the Executive Director and Team Leader assure that all staff carries out their duties in a professional manner and with respect for the code of ethics, our Mission Statement and always with a preoccupation for the well-being and safety of our clients. Ensures with the collaboration of the Team Leader that all aspects of the programs and services are recorded properly in WITS (our database) Other related duties that may be requested by the Executive Director Is available for further training and is responsible for own professional development as provided by the Center. Must work with the complete respect for confidentiality, where all information needed to be reported will be provided to the proper staff members or authorities (information about our clientele/families, staff members and the program itself). Safety and Security All Staff have a responsibility to remain aware of and report any risks or safety concerns promptly, and to follow any policies or procedures instituted to mitigate these risks All staff have a part to play in preventing adverse events and in promoting safety for clients and staff It is the responsibility of all staff to be aware of and to adhere to all policies and procedures, including those that relate to client safety, staff safety and risk management Must intervene using the CPI model (Crisis Prevention Intervention) in order to prevent situation from escalating into crisis. Applies the immediate procedures defined by the Center for cases requiring emergency procedures. Defines, in the limits of the functions, the care needed to be provided to the clients when illness or accidents occurs.

Offers the appropriate care needed and to be provided to the clients when illness or accidents occur. Applies the emergency procedures defined by the center`s policy when required. Ensures that the immediate environment and facilities favors the rehabilitation, safety and well-being of the clientele. Ensures, with the other staff members, the good functioning of the Centre.
