2015 Course Catalog Cooper University Health Care GENERAL INFORMATION Patient Care Services - Education Division DEPARTMENT OF PATIENT CARE SERVICES, EDUCATION COOPER UNIVERSITY HEALTH CARE In keeping with the hospital s mission to serve, to heal and to educate, the Patient Care Services Education Department at Cooper University Health Care (CUHC) offers a variety of professional development and continuing education opportunities for our staff. In an effort to assist staff members in meeting their professional goals, Cooper offers New Jersey State Nurse Association (NJSNA) continuing education contact hours, tuition reimbursement, college and trade school affiliations, and on-campus courses. As a New Jersey State Nurse Association (NJSNA) Provider Unit, our continuing nursing education programs are developed around specific goals and objectives with content that incorporates the latest evidence. Programs are delivered using a variety of educational methods including case studies, discussion, lecture, and group work, and are offered by content experts in their field. The Life Support Training Team, another important division of the education department at Cooper, is committed to educating the public and professional communities in emergency cardiovascular care. Through an alliance with the American Heart Association, classes are offered in basic life support, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric life support. The Life Support staff includes boardcertified physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists, paramedics, EMTs and others with specialized training and experience. We are pleased to offer our 2015 Educational Course Catalog for your review. ALL employees must enroll through the Cooper Learning Network (CLN) for each course they plan to attend. 2. Students and Faculty affiliate schools of nursing with Cooper University Health Care may attend courses per seat availability. A registration form must be completed then you will receive E-mail notification confirming your registration. 3. If you have not received confirmation and/or need additional information contact Patient Care Services - Education Division at (856) 342-2459. COURSE REGISTRATION FOR NON-COOPER EMPLOYEE 1. Complete the registration form (page ##) and make check payable to Cooper University Health Care. Send payment to Patient Care Services Education Division at Cooper University Health Care, One Cooper Plaza, Camden, New Jersey 08103-1489. 2. You may fax a copy of your registration form to hold a space on the attendance sheet until two weeks before the course. Two weeks before the course the space will be given to a paid registrant if we have not received your check. 3. You will receive E-mail notification please bring your confirmation along with you so that Security may direct you to the appropriate course location. 4. Cooper University Health Care reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient enrollment, in which case registrants will receive a full refund. 5. In order to receive full or partial refund from Cooper University Health Care, you will need to send a copy of the front and back of cancelled check. 2015 Course Catalog Cooper University Health Care GENERAL INFORMATION Patient Care Services - Education Division LIFE SUPPORT TRAINING CENTER REGISTRATION FORMS AVAILABLE ONLINE: FEES: All course dates for Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP), are now easily accessible on the Cooper Health System's web site at www.cooperhealth.org. Click on the green tab Education then choose "Life Support Training" to access the new site. After completing the required information, all forms MUST be printed and then sent to the Life Support Training Center office. Cooper Hospital employees must also print and sign the "No Show/Cancellation" payroll deduction form to complete the registration process. If you have any questions, please contact the Life Support Training Center at (856) 342-2009 or email the office at LifeSupport@cooperhealth.edu. All courses (except for TNCC and ENPC) are free to all Cooper Employees. The fees noted in the catalog are for Non-cooper registrants. ACC Staff - should contact ACC nurse manager for fee structure. Staff should badge in when attending mandatory classes. Note to Managers: Pay code for mandatory classes EDU ACCREDITATION/DESIGNATION/DISCLOSURE: Cooper University Health Care is an approved provider of continuing education by the New Jersey State Nurses Association (P#101-8/12-15). SPECIAL NOTES: 1. Course dates and times are subject to change/cancellation based on attendance and unforeseen circumstances. 2. Temperatures in our classrooms vary greatly! Please dress in layers so that you can be comfortable. Non-Cooper Staff please note parking is not included in the fee for the course. Fee for parking is approximately $10.00 per day. ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Course ONS and the Oncology Nursing Certification Corporation (ONCC) have collaborated to provide the new ONS/ONCC Chemotherapy Biotherapy Certificate Course. The previous two-day live ONS Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Course has changed to an online-only format. It is now a self-paced, comprehensive, online program that places a strong emphasis on your preparation. Upon successful completion of the course requirements, you ll be equipped with the tools you need to safely administer chemotherapy and biotherapy agents to your patients with cancer, while providing the type of quality care demanded by your institution. Baby Friendly Simulation Baby Friendly Simulation is designed to provide staff in the maternal child health setting with hands on experience regarding topics that support exclusive breastfeeding. An overview of the Baby Friendly Initiative will be provided as well as our status in moving forward toward this designation. Below are a few sites that offer ANCC approved programs. Most have a fee, but many professional organizations such as the ANA and American Association of Critical-Care Nurses, offer free education programs to their members. By doing an internet search, you may find additional resources. IMPORTANT NOTE: Before deciding to take any online continuing education, check that the programs are accredited. Some will say they are approved, but do not indicate the approving organization. Select programs that are approved by AACN (American Nurses Credentialing Center) to insure the credits are acceptable for license renewal. He/she is responsible for the selection, set-up, and operation of the heart-lung machine. Perfusion is an excellent career advancement for those who already have a strong back-ground in physiology, such as a RN or RRT. Nationally, there is a strong demand for perfusionists and starting salaries range from $90,000/year. This 21 month program requires a bachelor s degree for admission. School of Diagnostic Imaging Medical Radiography Program Is a twenty-two month full time entry level imaging program in the Radiologic Sciences. A Radiologic Technologist is a professional member of the healthcare team who performs a vita function in the diagnosis and treatment of disease. The program prepares individuals to perform medical imaging procedures using x-radiation (x-ray) through their knowledge of physics, radiation protection and radiation biology, anatomy and physiology, radiographic procedures, etc. The Radiologic Technologist must also have good communication skills, able to make decisions quickly and independently and be able to perform as a team member. The setting can be in either a diagnostic, therapeutic or research area. Graduates are prepared for national and state certifying examinations. The school is presently accepting applications for September 2016. Advanced Imaging Programs These programs are designed for credentialed radiologic technologist/science professionals. Offered are a full-time 6 month Computed Tomography (CT) Fellowship and a full-time 9 month Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) programs which prepare the students for their national boards. In addition, there are 6 month part-time evening didactic offerings in CT and MRI. These programs are designed to enhance the potential of graduate technologists by giving them additional avenues of professional opportunities.
