We recommend to schedule daily maintenance plan in SQL for the exchange@pam database. In this way the database and log files will be backed up and shrunk down. To schedule the maintenance plan for exchange@pam database: 1. Run the Microsoft SQL Server Enterprise Manager from Start / Programs / Microsoft SQL server / SQL Server Management Studio. 2. Expand the Microsoft SQL Servers node down to the maintenance plan, e.g. VMXDEMO (SQL Server) / Management / Maintenance Plan. 3. Right-click the Maintenance Plan and from the context menu select Maintenance Plan Wizard to open it. Wizard window opens. 4. Enter the name for your maintenance plan (e.g. pam) and click the Change button to schedule it. 5. The Job Schedule Properties window opens: In the Schedule type down-drop box select Recurring and check Enabled text box. In the Frequency section set it to run daily (Occurs Daily; Recurs every 1 day(s)). In the Daily Frequency section set the maintenance time in the Occurs once at text box. In the Duration section check the No end date radio button. Check your settings in Summary. Finally click OK. H&S Heilig und Schubert Software AG page 2/7
6. In the Maintenance Plan Wizard window click Next. In the following window make sure to select these maintenance tasks: Shrink database Clean Up History Back Up Database (Full) Back Up Database (Transaction Log) Click Next. H&S Heilig und Schubert Software AG page 3/7
7. In the following dialog configure the shrink task for your exchange@pam database: Click the down arrow in the Database(s) text box. Check These databases radio button and select your exchange@pam database. Click OK, then Next. 8. In the new window check all three check boxes. NOTE: Bear in mind that each backup file requires as much space as the database itself. 9. Now configure the full backup for your exchange@pam database: Click the down arrow in the Database(s) text box. Check These databases radio button and select your exchange@pam database. 10. Configure transaction log backup: Click the down arrow in the Database(s) text box. Check These databases radio button and select your exchange@pam database. Click OK, then Next. 11. Finally click Finish. When done click Close. H&S Heilig und Schubert Software AG page 6/7
12. Back in the Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio window make sure that the SQL Server Agent is started. If not (small red cross attached to its icon) right-click the SQL Server Agent and select Start from the context menu to start the agent. H&S Heilig und Schubert Software AG page 7/7
