Superior performance Co-Ni Alloy Product (SPRON) Product Catalogue 21 211

Superior performance Co-Ni Alloy Product (SPRON) solves designers problems " " is a special metal (Co-Ni alloy) developed for mechanical watch springs, through collaboration with the Institute of Materials Research, Tohoku University. It has the excellent characteristics of high elasticity, durability, corrosion resistance, and heat resistance allowing to be used in wide-range of fields, including medical materials, small precision springs, and metal diaphragms, as well as springs for watches. CONTENTS SPRON1... 3 SPRON51... 4 CORROSION TEST DATA & GLOSSARY... 6 ENVIRONMENT & QUALITY POLICY... 7 IMPORTANT... 7 " " is the SII brand name coined from SPRING MICRON. As the name implies, our precision springs boast outstanding material properties and are machined to a precision finish controlled to the micron level.

SPRON1 OVERVIEW SPRON 1 is a strain age hardening type Co-Ni alloy that makes the most of the work-hardening properties of cobalt-based alloys. High mechanical strength and corrosion resistance combined with excellent precision processing technologies make it ideal for precision devices, medical precision parts, and precision screws, as well as mechanical watches. APPLICATIONS - Precision springs (coils, torsion springs, flat springs, disc springs) - Springs for measuring instruments - Cable guides for driving robot devices - Metal diaphragm for special valves - Medical precision parts - Wires for medical devices CHARACTERISTICS Mechanical and physical characteristics Tensile strength Up to 2156MPa (Up to 22kg/mm 2 ) Elongation Hardness Density Young s modulus Modulus of rigidity Linear expansion coefficient Electrical resistivity 26 to 216GPa 12 to 13 1 6 3.% Hv. to 6 8.3 to 8.6g/cm 8.4GPa / C 3 (21 to 22 1 3 kg/mm 2 ) (8.2 1 3 kg/mm 2 ) (2 to 5 C) 98 to 1μΩ-cm (Wire drawing material: cold processing + age treatment) Chemical components Other Relationship between mechanical characteristics and heat treatment temperature Relationship between heat treatment temperature and mechanical strength of SPRON 1 25 7 Cr (Chromium) Fe (Iron) Chemical composition Ni (Nickel) Co (Cobalt) Hardness (Hv) 7 6 5 4 3 2 1 Tensile strength (M Pa) 2 15 1 5 Tensile strength Hardness Elongation 2 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 1 12 Heat treatment temperature ( C) 6 5 4 3 2 1 Elongation (%) Since SPRON 1 is a work-hardening and age-hardening material, an optimum mechanical strength can be obtained when it is heatprocessed between 5 C and 6 C after cold treatment. S-N curves Repeated stress σ (M Pa) S-N curves of SPRON 1 processing ratio at 6% 1,5 1,4 As rolled 1,3 5 C 2-hour age treatment 1,2 1,1 1, 9 8 7 6 5 1, 1, 1,, 1,, 1,, Cycle number to failure (N) The above graph shows the S-N curves when rolled materials with a 6% processing rate are bent for fatigue tests. The above graph also shows that the fatigue limit is 75 MPa when heat processing is performed at 5 C. SPRON 21-211 3

SPRON51 OVERVIEW SPRON 51 is a strain age-hardening type Co-Ni-Cr-Mo alloy with material characteristics that are more advanced than SPRON 1. It is non-magnetic and features ultra high elasticity and high mechanical strength, as well as high durability and heat resistance. CHARACTERISTICS APPLICATIONS - Metal diaphragms for clean valves - Metal diaphragms and pipes for mass flow controllers - Parts for pressure sensors (diaphragms and pipes) - Corrosion-resistant, precision processed parts - Precision parts for medical equipment - Precision springs (coils, torsion springs, flat springs, disc springs) Mechanical and physical characteristics Tensile strength Stiffness Up to 294MPa Up to 5684MPa (Up to 3kg/mm 2 ) (Up to 58kg/mm 2 ) (Wire drawing material: cold processing + age treatment) Elongation Hardness Density Young s modulus Modulus of rigidity Linear expansion coefficient Electrical resistivity 8.5 to 8.7 216 to 225GPa 83.3GPa 12 to 13 1 6 / C 98 to 1 3.% Hv. to 8 g/cm 3 (22 to 23 1 3 kg/mm 2 ) (8.5 1 3 kg/mm 2 ) (2 to 5 C) μω-cm Intensity of magnetization (5kOe) Chemical components Other Mo (Molybdenum) Relationship between mechanical characteristics and heat treatment temperature Relationship between heat treatment temperature and mechanical strength of SPRON 51 35 6.
