General Chair s Message Welcome at Dresden! It is our great pleasure to express a warm welcome on behalf of the Organizing Committee and of the Scientific Committee to all participants of the 5th Memristor and Memristive Symposium (MMS) and the 15th International Workshop on Cellular Nanoscale Networks and their Applications (CNNA). This year the MMS and CNNA will be held in Dresden, this area is providing in Europe an extensive concentration of research institutes and commercial enterprises in microelectronics and nanotechnology. These events are sponsored by the Technische Universität Dresden, the German Research Foundation (DFG), the Office of Naval Research Global (ONR Global), and technically co-sponsored by the Information Technology Society (ITG) within the VDE, the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies. The Circuit and Systems Society (CASS) of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) Inc. supported the organization of the symposium and the workshop as a partner. The Memristor and Memristive Symposium and the International Workshop on Cellular Nanoscale Networks and their Applications have been organized almost all over the world. While the MMS followed a biennial series of symposia subsequently hosted in Berkeley (2008, 2010), Turin (2012), and Notre Dame (2014), the CNNA was hosted in Budapest (1990), Munich (1992), Rome (1994), Seville (1996), London (1998), Catania (2000), Frankfurt/Main (2002), Budapest (2004), Hsinchu (2005), Istanbul (2006), Santiago de Compostela (2008), Berkeley (2010), Turin (2012), and Notre Dame (2014). These events proved to be successful in bringing together scientists from different areas in interdisciplinary research. The papers of authors from 22 countries were selected in a strict review, organized by the Technical Program Committee chairs in cooperation with the local program chairs. The program of the 5th MMS comprises plenary lectures of Prof. Leon O. Chua, Prof. Kristy A. Campbell, Dr. Stanley Williams, Prof. Fernando Corinto, Prof. Rainer Waser, Dr. Abu Sebastian, Prof. Qiangfei Xia, Prof. Ronald Tetzlaff, and Prof. Wei Lu. The program of 15th CNNA is com-pleted by 6 special sessions, a demo session and by plenary lectures of Prof. Wolfgang Porod, Prof. Gerhard Fettweis, Dr. George Bourianoff, Prof. Csaba Rekeczky, Dr. Maciej Wiatr, and Prof. Ángel Rodríguez-Vázquez. We would like to express our appreciation and sincere thanks to all sponsoring organizations and to all who with their efforts and their engagement contributed to make the 5th Memristor and Memristive Symposium and the 15th International Workshop on Cellular Nanoscale Networks and their Applications possible. We wish you a very pleasant and interesting stay in Dresden! Ronald Tetzlaff and Angela Slavova ISBN 978-3-8007-4252-3 3 VDE VERLAG GMBH, Berlin, Offenbach
