Related Experience Reverse Engineering of Flight Control Actuator Ballscrews Challenge: A supplier of critical aerospace ballscrews was consistently late on deliveries and continually increasing prices. Solution: Moog ISS reverse engineered the ballscrews, developed required technical data and conducted required qualification tests. n 14 different ballscrew part numbers (sizes). 28 units per shipset. n 3 families small, medium and large Customer Benefit: Now able to procure Moog designed ballscrews at a significant savings over previous suppliers pricing and reduce lead time to meet enduser schedules. Ballscrew Assembly Reliability Upgrade to Missile Launcher System Challenge: The missile launcher system was experiencing premature wear out due to operation in desert environments. Additional wear resulted from launcher design changes that increased the loads placed on the bearings. Solution: Moog ISS redesigned the system to increase the number of support bearings from 2 to 3 and improved the environmental survivability of the damper while maintaining the original performance specifications. Customer Benefit: Improved life under increased loads and harsh environments. Redesigned Damper 4
3rd Party MRO Services for Flight Critical Hardware Customer was not satisfied with the original OEM s turn-around times or prices for overhaul of complex servoactuators. Solution: Moog ISS won contracts to overhaul the entire suite of primary flight control servoactuators (9 basic hardware configurations / 23 unique assembly numbers) Customer Benefit: Met customer requirement to have overhaul facility operational within 150 days of contract award. Established supply chain for component parts to meet delivery schedules. Dramatically improved availability of overhauled hardware for customer. Primary Flight Control Actuator Advanced Surface Restoration for Aerospace Magnesium Castings Challenge: Corrosion caused severe surface pitting on the magnesium tail rotor casting. Normally these castings would be scrapped. Solution: Moog repaired the magnesium surface using a Cold Spray aluminum alloy. Customer Benefit: Repairing this part with Cold Spray ensured that the coating is more corrosion and wear resistant. The customer saved a significant amount of lead time and the potential cost savings can be in excess of 70% of a replacement part.
