-Fiber System Overview -FIBER TRUNKING SOLUTIONS Bandwidth and storage demand is expanding at a breathtaking rate. The environment is rapidly evolving. The impact on data center design and management is profound. Networks will migrate from 0 to 0 to 00 Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) speeds dynamically, and data center managers and designers need to be able to manage this migration to maximize efficiency and responsiveness while minimizing cost. This dynamic migration demands a simple yet robust migration pathway, and successful migration starts with a simple yet robust plan. This guide presents just such a concise and manageable plan to allow migration of infrastructure, whether it be core switching, aggregation, end of row, top of rack or hybrid network architectures. Centered around -fiber trunks and cassette-based optical connectivity, this roadmap provides the following advantages: A single trunking format that can be replicated and upgraded simply and flexibly Unified solutions for 0, 0 and 00 GbE applications Pre-engineered paths and polarity Higher fiber utilization versus fiber systems Fewer trunks Fewer connections Fewer components Standardized practices for design, installation, documentation and troubleshooting Component and trunk re-use Minimized waste of space, time and money Fiber MPOptimate Connector Trunk cables remain permanent 0GbE ENABLING MIGRATION TO 0GbE ENABLING MIGRATION TO LC Duplex Patch 0Gb/s Cassette Fiber Trunk 0Gb/s Cassette LC Duplex Patch ENABLING MIGRATION TO 00GbE ENABLING MIGRATION TO 00GbE x Fiber Patch Cable 0Gb/s Cassette Fiber Trunk 0Gb/s Cassette x Fiber Patch Cable 00GbE 00GbE x Fiber Patch Cable 00Gb/s Cassette Fiber Trunk 00Gb/s Cassette x Fiber Patch Cable Key Products of the Fiber MPOptimate Solution 0/ 807EU
Application Selection Matrix INTRODUCTION This configuration guide has been designed to provide data center managers and designers with a guide to the various fiber MPOptimate channel/link configurations that are available - based upon their current and future transceiver speed/connectivity requirements. Using the grid below, select your start point transceiver connectivity type and your end point transceiver connectivity type. Then decide whether you need a cross-connect or interconnect solution. -Fiber 0 Gigabit Ethernet Interconnect INTRODUCTION The 0GbE interconnect solution employs a -fiber optical trunk with a single x fiber MPOptimate connector at each end. This trunk interfaces with the rear of a -fiber Universal Connectivity Platform (UCP) cassette that breaks out the trunk fibers into twelve duplex LC connections at the front, supporting fibers per cassette. This cassette mounts into the UCP panel, which provides cable management and protection for both rear MPOs. UCP panels support up to 8 duplex LCs (9 fibers) per rack unit. They can be populated all at once, or added to or upgraded a cassette at a time in the future. d -Fiber 0/0 Gigabit Ethernet Interconnect INTRODUCTION To support connection from switch ports that have been remotely enabled as four 0GbE independent paths, a MPO to LC duplex fan-out cable at the switch side will connect to the 0GbE path. This option would typically replace a direct attach QSFP fan-out cable. A fan-out cable does not always give enough flexibility as often there are different lengths for LC duplex patch cables are required. In the below configuration, the fan-out cable is replaced by a MPO patch cable that is connected to the switch port at the near end and connected to a port MPO/LC duplex 0GbE fiber cassette at the far end. LC duplex patch cables with variable lengths can be connected from the MPO/LC cassette to the 0GbE switch ports at the far end. All cassettes are compatible with UCP panels, drawers and hardware, and feature a simple, yet highly effective, cable management system. Cassettes snap easily into existing or newly installed UCP chassis, and can be replaced by 0 and 00GbE cassettes in the future.
