How To Create the Right Marketing Mix for Your Business Introduction Marketing is essential for business success. There s no denying it. And there are myriad marketing tactics to use to build your business. Tactics range from paid advertising, to handing out brochures to networking both online and off. Your marketing mix is the collection of marketing tactics you implement to achieve your marketing goals. Independently, each tactic if implemented strategically with a plan, goals and measurements, is likely to produce results. However, when your marketing tactics are integrated with each other, that s when you can really amplify your marketing and business success. Before you can successfully integrate marketing tactics, however you have to create a strategy. Your marketing strategy will consist of the goals you want to achieve overall and then independently with each tactic. You will also need a plan to achieve those goals. For example, if you want to improve your website traffic and brand awareness through social networking you ll want to quantify that goal and set up a system to measure it. You may decide that you want to create a fan page and your goal is 5000 fans. Then measuring it is easy because Facebook lists the fans for you.

This report is dedicated to helping you create the ideal marketing mix for your business. We ll explore several marketing tactics, provide examples of how you can integrate it with other tactics and your overall marketing strategy, and provide a few tips to get the most from it. It s a fantastic marketing tool because it helps you brand your business. It helps you reach a very large group of potential prospects. Social networking can also boost your search engine page ranking when people link to your content. And it helps you connect with prospects in a very unique and personal manner. In short, social networking is an incredibly powerful marketing tactic. It takes time but it doesn t cost much and it integrates well with your other marketing tactics. Integrating Social Networking into Your Overall Marketing Strategy Social networking is easily blended into your marketing strategy. As mentioned in the introduction, you can place a Follow me on Facebook message on your business cards. Social Media Do s and Don ts: Do use technology to maximize your efforts. There are tools that let you post on Twitter and Facebook simultaneously. And many tools/services let you schedule Twitter posts in advance. Do test and track results pay attention to the sites that generate the most click throughs and which sites have a more active audience. Do interact with your friends and followers - contribute. Don t simply post links to your website and promotional messages. Email Marketing Email marketing, also called autoresponders, ezines, and enewsletters, is a tried and true marketing tactic. It is the process of creating an email, subscriber, or opt-in list and then sending the people who have subscribed quality information and promotions. It s a very effective means of communicating with qualified prospects. Email marketing can take many forms. Some marketers choose to create an autoresponder series that provides anywhere from 25-52 weeks of information. The messages can be part of an online course, they can be articles, and they can be simply nuggets of information like tips or quotes. Of course you may decide to mix your informational messages up with harder selling messages, the choice is yours. Additionally, you ll want to create that subscriber list and that s usually accomplished by giving something away like an ebook or a report. However, you can build your opt-in list using any number of tactics.

Integrating Email Marketing into Your Overall Marketing Strategy Email marketing is a great way to key your audience into new content that s been published online. It s a wonderful way to boost your blog traffic too. Send out a message with a teaser to your blog post and a link to it so people can click through and read. Add a follow me on button to your signature in your email messages. Link to your opt-in page from your social networking profile to build your email subscriber list. Consider a joint venture partnership and promote a relevant product or service in your newsletter in exchange for them promoting you. Email Marketing Do s and Don ts: Do send regular messages depending on what you ve committed to. If you promised a weekly tip, send a weekly tip. Do remember to keep your audience s needs and wants in mind when creating your content. Provide value. Do keep your promotion/information ratio balanced. 20% promotion and 80% information is a good rule of thumb. Do link to your social networking profiles in your email marketing signature. Do broaden your subscriber base by seeking partnerships with complementary businesses. Advertising We re going to lump all advertising into one main category here however there are different types of advertising you can do depending on your goals, audience and budget. You can do PPC, Pay Per Click, advertising which is essentially an ad where you pay every time someone clicks on it. The most popular PPC ads are AdSense ads through Google however many companies offer PPC or PPC type ad options. There are also pay per view, pay per lead, pay per conversion type ads. And many social networking sites like Facebook are now offering advertising options. You can also create a banner ad and buy space on relevant websites, blogs and newsletters. Banner ads can be static ads placed in a sidebar, header or footer or they can be pop-up ads or ads that appear after a specified action. You can place classified ads on ad directories to promote your business.

The biggest downside to advertising is the cost. Some ads can be extremely expensive. However, if you create a budget, stick to it, and test and track your ad for effectiveness, you can fine tune your advertising tactics so they offer a good return on investment. The key with advertising is to usually start small. The one caveat to the expense issue is that classified ads are generally free or very low cost and can be extremely effective. Integrating Advertising into Your Overall Marketing Strategy Advertising is a little trickier than other methods to integrate into your overall strategy. And often, it just doesn t make sense to integrate them. However, on many social networking sites you can for example, advertise your Facebook Page. This helps promote your page and your business. And you can advertise for your business website on social networking sites too. This integrates the two nicely. Otherwise, unless you re promoting a specific product, advertising works best as a standalone tactic. However, you ll want to integrate it into your product creation strategy so you have fresh ads created each time you launch a new product or service. Advertising Do s and Don ts: Do include a call to action in your ads. Do test and track ad success Do watch your budget PPC campaigns have a knack for getting expensive if not tightly controlled. Do buy ad space on relevant websites/blogs with proven track records. Do create a consistent brand image throughout all your ads Don t advertise just for the sake of advertising. Have goals, a plan and a purpose. Content Marketing Content is an essential component of any marketing strategy. Content: Is cost effective It drives traffic It boosts SEO It increases your credibility and authority in your industry It enhances your brand It motivates purchases and loyalty It generates awareness and repeat visits Content is necessary.

However, content doesn t have to be strictly print. Yes, article marketing is effective. However video and audio content is also effective. Use a mix and use whatever your audience responds to and you are most comfortable with. If you re more comfortable talking instead of writing, then create video content and hire someone to ghostwrite your articles or purchase PLR. Your content strategy will likely entail: Publishing in Article directories - Article directories are generally free and they re a wonderful way to generate links to your website and increase awareness. Integrating Content into Your Overall Marketing Strategy Integrating content into your overall marketing strategy is more straightforward than integrating advertising. You can: Post links to new content on your social networking profiles. Ask questions via your social networking interactions to generate content for your site Link to newly published content in your autoresponder/ezine Modify or repurpose content you ve written for your site or article directories and use it as a post on your social networking site. Link to content via advertisements. Add a Follow me on badge in your author/bio box on each article or content piece. Content Marketing Do s and Don ts: Do spend time creating quality content or hire someone to create it for you. Do create content that offers value to your prospects Do regularly publish new content Do optimize your content for the search engines

Do create content that fits your skills and personality video, audio and print are all options Don t promote in your content. However, internal links to other relevant content is recommended. Do repurpose your content to gain maximum benefit and exposure Do pay attention to what content gets the most response. For example, which article marketing pieces get linked to and republished most often? Do create attention grabbing headlines for your content. Do make sure all content is easily accessed and viewed online. Articles that are tough to read online due to font size and formatting won t get read. Audio and video files that are saved in unusual formats or take a long time to download won t get viewed or listened to. Blogging Blogging operates much like content does however the purpose for blogging has a bit of a wider scope. Generally, blogging is excellent for creating a brand personality. A blog post, whether it s print, audio or video, has the unique benefit of being able to be more personable. You can share anecdotes and opinions not normally shared in an article published online. Blogs work quite well as a standalone business website or as a supporting site. Your blog should have a purpose. For example, if you have a website designed to sell pet food then your blog s purpose may be to share pet food recipes and demonstrations on how to prepare the pet food or treats. Blogging is time consuming however it is fairly inexpensive, particularly if you create your own content highly recommended. However, you can also guest blog on other sites (Great for increasing awareness) and you can have others guest blog on your site too. This makes it easier to produce regular content. Integrating Blogging into Your Overall Marketing Strategy Post links to blog posts on your social networking profiles. SEO SEO, Search Engine Optimization, is the practice of making sure your website/blog shows up on the search results when people look for your information. The goal for most businesses is to get as high on the search results for your keywords as possible. The higher you are, the more traffic you ll receive. SEO can be expensive if you hire someone else to manage it for you however, it is something most business owners can manage themselves and it can be an extremely effective means of boosting a business. Search engine optimization is part of most marketing tactics. It includes optimizing: Website Blog Article content Graphics Video content Audio content And it takes the following into account: Tagging Linking internal and external

Keywords and keyword phrases Therefore, every marketing tactic you use and every piece of content you produce will likely be optimized for the search engines. It will naturally be integrated into your marketing tactics, particularly content, blog and perhaps even social networking. Integrating SEO into Your Overall Marketing Strategy When you optimize your article marketing content link to your website and/or blog. Content published on your website or blog can have internal links to other relevant articles or posts to enhance internal linking. Keyword optimize all content published online or on article directories Tag blog posts and categorize appropriately In your email marketing messages you can publish a reprint notice that lets others reprint your newsletter content as long as they retain the links to your website. YouTube is a perfect example of this because people love to share videos, especially funny or shocking ones. However, other products can be viral as well including: ebooks Reports

Workshops, seminars or online course Video Audio Viral means that they re passed from person to person and the more quickly items are passed, the bigger the market you re able to capture. Viral products tend to be entertaining, controversial, thought provoking or extremely valuable information. Integrating Viral Marketing into Your Overall Marketing Strategy When using something like a video or audio, you can market your product or service directly in the content. Make sure to incorporate your company name and URL into the content. Advertise your viral content Post links to viral content on your blog Post links to viral content on social networking sites Post links to viral content in your author s bio box when publishing article marketing content. Viral Marketing Do s and Don ts: Do make content easy to share. Include forward to a friend options and social networking badges and buttons. Do have a purpose for your viral marketing campaign Do make your content interesting and/or compelling Do follow up after. Do promote viral content via other marketing tactics, blog, social networking advertising, etc. A Note about Offline Marketing Offline marketing can be just as effective as online marketing. Networking events, brochures, fliers, business cards and advertising are all offline techniques that work. Get listed in your local directory (it generates a local online listing when you do this). Participate in local networking events. Create brochures and business cards that have links to your website, blog and your social networking profiles. Offline tactics are often extremely cost effective if they re integrated with your online tactics. And when you create measurements and systems to test and track your offline tactics, you can find the best mix for your business and your audience.

Conclusion As you can see there are many forms of online marketing tactics. You don t have to use them all. In fact, it s advised to start small and fine tune each tactic before integrating another one. Before you dive in: 1. Create a marketing budget 2. Research your target audience thoroughly 3.
