ABSTRACT Woro Mawarningtyas. K2209094. ENHANCING SPEAKING SKILL USING WORK BASED LEARNING MODEL FOR MARKETING CLASS (A Classroom Action Research Study at the Eleventh Grade of SMK N 1 Surakarta in the Academic Year 2012/2013) Thesis. Teacher Training and Education Faculty of Sebelas Maret University, Surakarta 2013. The objectives of the research are: (1) To investigate how the use of Work Based Learning model improves the speaking skill of eleventh grade students of Marketing Class in SMK Negeri 1 Surakarta. (2) To describe the strengths and weaknesses of the use of Work Based Learning model to improve the speaking skill of eleventh grade students of Marketing Class in SMK Negeri 1 Surakarta.The research was conducted in two cycles at the XI. PM 1 grade of SMK N 1 Surakarta from September to April in the academic year of 2012/2013. The problem of the students in speaking such as; (1) the students were not fluent in delivering speech; they often produced many fillers and repetition. (2) Students were not able in using correct grammatical (3) Students found difficulties in using correct pronunciation. (4) The students had poor vocabulary. The method used in this research was a classroom action research. The research findings show that the use of Work Based Learning model can improve students speaking skill in learning English. The improvements of students speaking skill are that: (1) Most of the students create their own dialogue with appropriate vocabulary and occasional grammar mistakes. (2) Most all of the students use good range of vocabulary and correct pronunciation. (3) Most of the students have self confidence, they speak fluently. The improvement of students speaking skill can also be seen from the improvement of mean score of pre-test (56.25), post test in cycle 1 (64.00), and post test of cycle 2 (70.8). Based on the result of the research, it can be concluded that Work Based Learning model can improve students speaking skill. It is recommended that teachers can use this model as a good alternative model of learning to improve the students speaking in learning English for students in Vocational High School.
