3 RIA ELI PROGRAM INFORMATION TERMS & CONDITIONS Please read and accept the following rules and conditions below. By submitting this application, you are agreeing to the Terms & Conditions listed below. IMMIGRATION RIA ELI follows the US Department of State s guidelines. F- 1 students must take full- time classes (20 hours per week or 80 hours per session). Visitors on a tourist visa are allowed to take 16 hours of class time (part- time). Class hours may be scheduled in morning or afternoon. ATTENDANCE Attendance in all Student Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP) approved classes is compulsory. If you are absent more than two days (eight hours) per four- week session, your excess absences will be reported to INS authorities which may result in loss of your non- immigrant status (F- 1) status, failure for that session and termination from the program. If you are sick, you must provide documentation and notify the office immediately. Arrive on time; 15 minutes late to class results in a tardy. Three (3) tardies result in one- hour absence for that class. If you are more than 15 minutes late, your first class hour will be marked with absent (0 grade). If you have a valid excuse of the late arrival, it has to be approved by the Director. PUNCTUALITY Punctual attendance is mandatory. Three tardies result in one- hour absence from class. If you are more than 15 minutes late, you will be marked absent. If you have a valid excuse, you must present documentation to the Center Director and schedule a time to make up missed work with your instructor. GRADING POLICY During each four- week session, students will be assessed as follows: quizzes/tests, homework, classwork, essays, presentations and oral evaluations, Mid- Session Progress Report and Final Exam. Students will receive a Final Grade Report at the end of each four- week session. Students must receive an overall course grade of 70% or higher to pass the class and move to the next level. If students achieve a final grade of 70% or higher, they will receive a Certification of Completion at the end of the term. EXPULSION POLICY Expulsion from RIA ELI may occur due to academic noncompliance (see above) or for any behavior that goes against local/federal laws that jeopardizes the student s non- immigrant status. Disrespectful, disruptive, or violent behavior against fellow students, faculty or staff will not be tolerated. If expelled, there will be no refund.
