With the new cobas p 312 preanalytical system the cobas p family is reaching for a new dimension of laboratory automation. The cobas p 312 pre-analytical system is a computer controlled stand-alone system for decapping, sorting and archiving of sample tubes for SWA, hematology, coagulation, and urinalysis. This landmark in sorting space management offers maximum efficiency at minimal space requirements: Sample tubes can be identified and registered, decapped on demand and mean wise put back in the same sample carrier or into a carrier for another target. Workflow efficiency With its throughput of 450 samples per hour the cobas p 312 pre-analytical system offers considerable increase of workflow efficiency combined with a very small footprint. Though, its loadings capacity of up to 600 sample tubes ensures long walkaway times for the laboratory staff. As registration of all primary samples can be done in one single step there is no presorting required. Sorting directly into analyzer s target racks and in and out of centrifuge racks saves time and staff capacity as well as it improves the consolidation of different laboratory disciplines. Reduced complexity From the single point of entry samples follow their destination, always being tracked by LIS/WAM. Test tubes could optionally be decapped and sorted respecting barcode alignment if its demanded by the subsequent analyzer. The cobas p 312 pre-analytical system processes all conventional barcodes, and all common tube types can be decapped and sorted in mixed mode. Handling of open tubes is possible. Continuous loading during routine allows streamline processing without interruption of workflow. Minimum space requirement provides a maximum of placement flexibility for this compact stand-alone pre-analytical system. Control and security The sample specific automated processing is controlled by LIS/WAM. Communication to the information system follows ASTM protocol via LAN (TCP/IP) and enables sample management via batch download, host query or dynamic interface. Sorting of tubes with unreadable barcode or without test requests will lead to default rack and guarantees early detection of erroneous samples as well as faster initialization of corrective actions. Every step could be tracked and controlled from the positive ID by barcode scan to sample and archive traceability, which helps to save time and reduce laboratory mistakes.
