Crimson Fact Sheet Dashboard Tab The Dashboard provides an executive summary of DRG and physician specific data and opportunities for the institution; it displays these summaries through several views: DRG Opportunity, Alerts, Physicians at a Glance and Quick Filters DRG Opportunity: Use the DRG opportunity view for a quick glance into areas of greatest opportunity, based on total charges and length of stay. Like other results throughout the application, results on the dashboard are based on comparisons with normalized system averages. Results displayed on the dashboard are based on comparable cases across the hospital system or across the selected group of physicians. Total Cases: total number of cases for the selected time period Cases >1 standard deviation: total number of cases from the total that exceed 1 σ from the mean Physicians: the number of physicians tagged to the total number of cases that are greater than 1 σ Opportunity: the total dollars in excess of the average for the cases that are greater than 1 σ from the mean Click on Modify to select a group, time period, and payer. Click done once the selection has been made. To view the physicians making up the total opportunity for a specific DRG, click on the hyperlink associated with the identified DRG under the physicians column. This will break out the opportunity by physician and is rank ordered in terms of opportunity. By clicking on a specific physician name hyperlink, you will be taken to the physician profile where you can review the data for the desired physician and the specified DRG. The application automatically reduces the data set to view only the focused DRG. Alerts: Use the alerts view to see positive or negative outliers across six key measures. Outliers are listed by physician, highlighting those with significantly different results compared to the specified time period, based on pre-defined alert criteria. Use alerts to quickly discover important deviations from the system averages or between various time periods. The results are based on the same criteria as the DRG Opportunities. Cases: total number of cases for the current time period Current Period: average LOS (in this example) for the current period across the total number of cases Comparison: average LOS for the total number of cases in the comparison period Change in Performance: the total increase/decrease in averages between the two time periods for the specified physician Click on has been made. to select a group, current and comparison time periods, and increase or decrease. Click done once the selection
Physicians at a Glance: Use this dashboard to see a summarized profile of all physicians or a group of physicians. This view looks at 6 specific measures, including LOS, mortality, complications, readmissions, total charges and core measure compliance. Click on Modify to select a group, and time period. Click done once the selection has been made. The number in parentheses represents the total number of cases for the physician for the time period selected. The bold number to the left of the case volume represents the average for that particular measure (i.e. Dr. Jones has 19 cases and his average LOS is 3.1 days across 19 cases.) The green checkmark, yellow dash sign and red exclamation mark represents standard deviations from the mean for each measure: 1. Green: <.5 standard deviations from the mean 2. Yellow:.5 and <1 standard deviation from the mean 3. Red: 1 standard deviation from the mean Quick filters: Use the quick filters to prioritize focus areas at the institution. For example core measure, complications and mortality. Any filter created in the filters section of the application can be categorized as a quick filter and is then viewed through the dashboard. Quick Filters are LGH specific filters that correspond with hospital goals. Kim Bahata is able to create filters if there is a filter that could be used hospital wide please contact Kim for assistance. Click on to select a group, current period, service line or specialty.
Physician Profile Tab This enables the user to select a specific physician, based on name or ID, as well as by hospital, service line and specialty. Type in a physician name or ID and click find physicians. Click profile next to the physician name in order to access the desired profile. In the upper right hand corner of the screen, click on the arrow next to Focus to select the desired timeframe (month, quarter, 6 months and year). The application will automatically recalculate to capture the desired timeframe. Select the appropriate tab for review: overview, quality, and utilization Overview: Case mix index Patient age Avg severity level Avg risk of mortality % of surgical DRG s Attending/consulting status Top ten consulting physicians payers Below are the metrics you can find in each tab: Quality: re-admissions complications mortality rate core measures AHRQ Patient Safety Indicators Top ten complications Utilization: Avg LOS Avg charges/costs % of cases above CMS GMLOS Avg consultants used % of cases above avg LOS % of cases above avg charges/costs 1. To review any measure in more detail, click on details, which can be found under the name of the desired measure. The details will break down the specific metric into the top 10 DRG s, ranked by volume. 2. To review case level detail, click on discharges, which can be found under the name of the desired measure. 3. To review the desired case by day, click on the timeline which can be found in the middle part of the screen once in Discharges
The Mortality Rate Details view shows the same results for the physician as the Quality Summary view, along with the following additional details: The first column, below the dial duplicated from the Summary View, shows an additional breakdown of summary results corresponding to each of the top ten (by volume over the selected time period) diagnosis groups (APR-DRGs) that contributed to that top-level result. Additional columns show results for other data sets with corresponding breakdowns. Color Dial The dial indicates how the physician s performance (Result) compares to the average performance (Avg) for physicians with comparable cases in the same hospital system. It shows how a physician is doing relative to the average mortality rate. Example measure in the Physicians tab: Mean Occurrences refers to how many of a physician s cases for the selected time period resulted in mortality. The number of Cases indicates the total number of patients for which the physician was identified as the responsible physician within the hospital system for the same selected time period. The Result percentage summarizes the physician s mortality rate within the hospital system. This value is calculated by dividing the number of mortality occurrences during the period selected on the Change Data Set menu by the physician s total number of cases. (In other words: Result = Occurrences per Cases) HELP! The Avg percentage summarizes the overall mortality rate for physicians in the hospital system, using only comparable cases. This value is calculated using comparable cases over a two-year period. Click to graph and trend the particular physician s results by quarters or by month To remove a case from the data set: 1. Click on discharges under the measure name 2. Then click exclude next to the cases to be excluded, then click close 3. Click on the Focus bar in the upper right corner, then click the last tab which is excludes, click omit excluded discharges, then click apply **Once you leave the physician profile all excludes will be entered back into the physician profile**
Group Profile Tab Enables the user to select a group of physicians based on specialty or sub-specialty, and also create custom groups to return to regularly for comparison purposes 1. Select a group (either specialty or custom) from the list by clicking on the name of the group 2. To view the group in aggregate, simply click on the desired tab: overview, quality, or utilization. The data displayed is for the whole group. 3. To view a physician within a group, click on the physician s name. This will take you directly to the profile.
