Introduction Many enterprises are struggling to make the transition to the latest technology innovations, including Windows 7 and 8, application and desktop virtualization, cloud, new application delivery methods and formats, and the broad array of access devices used by an increasingly mobile workforce. IT must manage applications in the increasingly complex combination of environments, ensuring that applications are tested, fixed, packaged, deployed, and updated on-premises, in virtual and cloud platforms. This process must not only be highly automated, but information must be presented to IT in a clear, concise, and consolidated manner to ensure critical migration decisions are made based upon all available data. Some companies are beginning to evaluate the possible impacts of Windows 8; others are just starting their Windows 7 migration. Regardless of where a company is, a continuous Application Readiness process enables enterprises to be ready now so that strategy, not resource constraints, dictates when and how they migrate. AdminStudio Suite 11.5 advances Application Readiness to enable this transition with enhanced application compatibility testing for Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10. In addition, AdminStudio 11.5 provides enhanced support for Microsoft Server App-V applications, and provides a new unified reporting and issue management interface. AdminStudio 11.5 includes the following new features: Streamlining application readiness with Test Center AdminStudio Suite 11.5 delivers a new unified reporting and issue management interface called Test Center that simplifies and streamlines all phases of application compatibility testing. Test Center allows you to execute a broad range of compatibility, validation, and conflict tests; manage and remediate issues; and monitor overall status in a single location. By standardizing the management of issues, IT teams can be more productive and deliver applications to users faster and more reliably. Support for Microsoft Server App-V applications and the Microsoft Private Cloud AdminStudio Suite Virtualization Pack 11.5 now supports virtualization suitability testing and the creation and management of Windows Server App-V applications fully integrated with System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM) enabling and accelerating enterprises migration efforts to the Microsoft Private Cloud. Support for Microsoft App-V 5.0 AdminStudio Virtualization Pack 11.5 now supports importing Microsoft App-V 5.0 packages into the Application Catalog, viewing package data, and performing virtualization best practices testing. Enhanced application compatibility AdminStudio 11.5 Application Compatibility Pack includes new compatibility tests for Windows 8 (32 and 64 bit), Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10. Additionally, it integrates with Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT). Enhanced Support for User-Centric Deployment AdminStudio Suite 11.5 simplifies and speeds migration to the new Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Application Model, so you can accelerate your progress toward a user-centric computing. Enhancements in AdminStudio 11.5 include expanded forms of data migrated to the new application model, including hardware requirements and application dependencies AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 3

AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 When a package is imported into the Application Catalog, Application Manager mines package elements for deployment metadata, which is valuable information to have when deploying Windows Installer or App-V packages using Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager. AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 includes support for additional System Center 2012 Configuration Manager application model properties, and provides several ways for you to edit these properties and to set their default values. AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 also includes some Test Center enhancements and several new OS compatibility tests. Note AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 includes changes that offer support for OS and browser compatibility tests for the final released versions of Windows 8, Windows Server 2012, and Internet Explorer 10. Without SP1, AdminStudio 11.5 supports OS and browser compatibility tests for Windows 8 Consumer Preview, Windows Server 2012 Beta, and the beta of Internet Explorer 10. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 includes integration with App Portal and FlexNet Manager Platform, new OS compatibility tests in Test Center, support for specifying custom extended attributes for applications, the ability to import applications from System Center 2012 Configuration Manager using the Platform API, and support for publishing.exe files to System Center Configuration Manager. New Features This section describes the new features in the following releases of AdminStudio: AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 AdminStudio 11.5 AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 This section describes the new features in AdminStudio 11.5 SP2: AdminStudio Integration with App Portal and the FlexNet Manager Platform Additional Operating System Compatibility Tests Support for Defining Custom Extended Attributes for Applications Platform Support for Importing Applications From System Center 2012 Configuration Manager Ability to Publish Legacy Installers (.exe) to System Center Configuration Manager AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 4

AdminStudio Integration with App Portal and the FlexNet Manager Platform Starting with 11.5 SP2, AdminStudio can communicate with App Portal and the FlexNet Manager Platform via the Flexera Service Gateway. Integrating these three products enables you to automatically and efficiently manage your application licenses. In this integrated solution, a Flexera ID a unique identifier assigned to applications by the FlexNet Manager Platform and stored in its Application Recognition Library (ARL) is used to maintain application identity across products. Note The ARL uniquely identifies over 110,000 applications (including multiple versions and editions) from over 14,000 publishers. Because AdminStudio, App Portal, and FlexNet Manager Platform use the same ID to identify an application, the following unified application management workflow is enabled: Figure 2-1: Unified Application Management Workflow AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 5

This application management workflow includes the following steps: AdminStudio obtains the Flexera ID from FlexNet Manager Platform When an application is imported into the Application Catalog, AdminStudio automatically queries the FlexNet Manager Platform ARL and obtains the application s Flexera ID. AdminStudio creates catalog item in App Portal When you publish an application from AdminStudio to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager, a catalog item for that application is automatically created in App Portal (in the default Software catalog category), identified by the same Flexera ID. App Portal and FlexNet Manager Platform share license information Because an application s identity is maintained between App Portal and FlexNet Manager Platform, automatic license management can be performed. Each time a user requests an application in App Portal, App Portal can automatically obtain entitlement and usage data from FlexNet Manager Platform for that application including available license count and the number of licenses used. FlexNet Manager Platform can automatically reserve a license for that user, if one is available, and update the license inventory. During approval processes, requests are routed automatically based on this data. For example, if no licenses are available, the request can be submitted to purchasing so that additional licenses can be acquired. Additional Operating System Compatibility Tests In AdminStudio 11.5 SP2, the following additional OS compatibility tests are available. 32-Bit Shell Extensions (0151, 0251, 0451, 0551) For additional information, see the Test Center Tests section of the AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Help Library. 32-Bit Shell Extensions (0151, 0251, 0451, 0551) During this test, the Windows Installer database is scanned for the presence of 32-bit shell extensions, which cannot be loaded on 64-bit operating systems. As a result of this, some program features that are available on Windows 32-bit operating systems are not available on computers that are running an x64-based version of Windows. Tests are included for the following test categories: Windows 7 (64-bit) Windows 8 (64-bit) Windows Server 2008 R2 Windows Server 2012 Support for Defining Custom Extended Attributes for Applications In AdminStudio 11.5 SP2, you have the option of defining extended attributes for applications. After you edit and run an SQL script named ApplicationExtendedAttributes.SQL, the extended attributes that you have defined in that script will be listed on a new Extended Attributes tab of the Application View. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 6

Platform Support for Importing Applications From System Center 2012 Configuration Manager AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 includes two new Platform API commands which enable you to import applications from System Center 2012 Configuration Manager into the Application Catalog. Identifying the application ID using Get-ASDeploymentSystemPackageTree First use the Get-ASDeploymentSystemPackageTree command to query System Center 2012 Configuration Manager for a list of all of its applications and groups. This list contains a unique System Center 2012 Configuration Manager application ID for all of its applications. Importing the application using Invoke-ASImportAppFromDeploymentSystem Then use the Invoke-ASImportAppFromDeploymentSystem command to actually import an application from System Center 2012 Configuration Manager into the Application Catalog, using the application ID returned from the Get-ASDeploymentSystemPackageTree command. Ability to Publish Legacy Installers (.exe) to System Center Configuration Manager In AdminStudio 11.5 SP2, you can now use the Distribution Wizard to publish a legacy installer (.exe) in the Application Catalog to System Center Configuration Manager. Tip In order to publish a legacy installer (.exe) to System Center Configuration Manager using Distribution Wizard, you must first import it into the Application Catalog. You can publish a legacy installer as either an application (System Center 2012 Configuration Manager only) or a package (all versions of System Center Configuration Manager). Publishing as an application To publish a legacy installer as an application, select the application node of the legacy installer in the Application Manager tree, and then select Distribute Application from the context menu. Publishing as a package To publish a legacy installer as a package, select the package node of the legacy installer in the Application Manager tree, and then select Distribute Package from the context menu. Setting Application Model Properties Using the Set-ASProperty Command of the Platform API Starting in AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can use the Set-ASProperty command to set application model properties through the AdminStudio Platform API. To set application model properties using the Set-ASProperty command, use the following syntax: Set-ASProperty -PropertyName "Name" -PropertyValue "Value" -PackageID n where: Name Name of application model property Value Value of application model property n Package ID number For example, you would use the following code to set the PrestagedDPSetting property to ManualCopy: Set-ASProperty -PropertyName "PrestagedDPSetting" -PropertyValue "ManualCopy" -PackageID 1 To set multiple properties simultaneously, you should create a PowerShell script file containing multiple Set-ASProperty commands, such as: Set-ASProperty -PropertyName "PrestagedDPSetting" -PropertyValue "ManualCopy" -PackageID 1 Set-ASProperty -PropertyName "AutoInstall" -PropertyValue "True" -PackageID 1 Set-ASProperty -PropertyName "RunAs32" -PropertyValue "False" -PackageID 1 For detailed information on using the Set-ASProperty command to set application model properties, along with a list of the property names, see the Set-ASProperty help topic in the AdminStudio Platform API section of the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 11

Setting Default Application Model Properties on the Options Dialog Box In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can specify the default values for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager application model properties on the Import Options / Application Model Defaults tab of the Application Manager Options dialog box. Figure 3: Options Dialog Box / Application Model Defaults Tab For a detailed description of these properties, see the Import Options / Application Model Defaults Tab help topic in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. Setting Default Application Model Properties Using an SQL Script In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can use an SQL script to specify the default values for System Center 2012 Configuration Manager application model properties. To do this, you just need to update an existing SQL script file (CustomDefaultValues.SQL) and then run that SQL file to update your Application Catalog. The defaults will then be applied to all new packages imported into the Application Catalog. You can also choose to run the script each time you create a new Application Catalog. For detailed information on using the CustomDefaultValues.SQL script, see the Setting Default Application Model Properties Using an SQL Script help topic in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 12

Enhancements to Creating Requirements You use the Requirements Wizard to add to a package requirements that the target system needs to meet in order for Microsoft System Center 2012 Configuration Manager to be able to successfully deploy that package. In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, several enhancements are included to make creating requirements an even more powerful tool: Support for Building Expressions When Creating Global Conditions for Custom Requirements Editing Global Conditions Support for Additional Devices for Device Requirements Support for Building Expressions When Creating Global Conditions for Custom Requirements You can now use the Requirements Wizard to create global conditions that use expressions (enabling you to connect clauses using AND and OR operators). Because many requirements may be common among applications, you could use this expression builder to add multiple custom requirements together as clauses in a global condition, and use this global condition in a custom requirement that you can assign to multiple deployment types, instead of creating a separate custom requirement for each. When you open the Requirement Wizard and choose to create a custom requirement, there is a new option in the Condition Type list on the Create Global Condition dialog box: Expression. When you select Expression from this list, an expression builder interface is displayed. Figure 4: Building an Expression on the Create Global Condition Dialog Box AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 13

For more information, see the Building Expressions When Creating Global Conditions help topic in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. Editing Global Conditions When you use the Requirements Wizard and Create Global Conditions dialog box to create global conditions, previously you were unable to edit these global conditions. In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can now edit these global conditions on the Global Conditions dialog box, which is opened by clicking the Global Conditions button in the Application Manager Catalog tab ribbon. The Global Conditions dialog box lists all of the global conditions present in the current Application Catalog. Figure 5: Global Conditions Dialog Box From the Global Conditions dialog box, you can edit or delete an existing global condition or create a new global condition. Editing an existing global condition Select the condition and then select Edit Condition from the context menu. The Create Global Condition dialog box opens, where you can edit the condition. Deleting an existing global condition Select the condition and then select Delete Condition from the context menu. Adding a new global condition Click anywhere on the list of conditions and select Create New Condition from the context menu. The Create Global Condition dialog box opens, where you can define a new condition. View references If a condition is in use, click on the condition and select References from the context menu to open the References dialog box, which lists the referring applications and the referring global conditions of the selected global condition. For more information, see the Editing Global Conditions help topic in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 14

Support for Additional Devices for Device Requirements When using the Requirements Wizard to create a device requirement, you can now define conditions for the following additional devices: Operating system language Organizational unit (OU) Viewing and Editing Return Codes In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can now edit a MSI and EXE package s return codes in the Application Manager interface. Return codes are used to indicate whether a restart is required, whether an installation is complete, and to customize the text shown to users when a specific code is returned. You can view a package s return codes, which are populated by default when the package is imported, on the new Return Codes subtab of the Deployment Types tab on the Application View. Figure 6: Return Codes Subtab of Deployment Types Tab On the Return Codes tab, you can add, edit, and delete return codes. Adding a return code Click Add Return Code in the ribbon and define a return code on the Add Return Code dialog box. Editing a return code Select a return code, click Edit Return Code in the ribbon, and edit the details of the return code on the Edit Return Code dialog box. However, the Return Code Value field cannot be edited. Deleting a return code Select a return code, click Delete Return Code in the ribbon, and confirm the deletion. For more information, see the Viewing and Editing Return Codes help topic in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 15

Changing the Priority of Deployment Types When an application has multiple deployment types, the order in which they will be evaluated in System Center 2012 Configuration Manager depends upon the deployment type s assigned priority. When a deployment type meets the specified requirements, it will be run and then no further deployment types on the priority list will be evaluated. By default, Application Manager assigns a deployment type a priority based upon their import order. In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can now modify the priority setting of an application s deployment types on the Change Deployment Type Priority dialog box, which is opened by clicking the Change Priority button in the Deployment Types tab ribbon. For more information, see the Changing the Priority of Deployment Types help topic in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. Importing.EXE Files using Invoke-ASImportPackage of the Platform API In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can now import.exe files into the Application Catalog using the Invoke-ASImportPackage command of the Platform API: Invoke-ASImportPackage -PackagePath C:\Packages\ABCapp\ABC.exe Running Application Compatibility Tests Using the Platform API In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, you can now use the Test-ASCompatibility, Test-ASValidate, and Get-ASTestDetails commands of the Platform API to test a specified package and view the test results. Test-ASCompatibility Use to run application compatibility tests on a specific package. Test-ASValidate Use to run Microsoft Windows internal consistency evaluators (ICE) tests on a specified package. Get-ASTestDetails Use to display the details of a specific application compatibility or Microsoft ICE test. For more information, see the Test-ASCompatibility, Test-ASValidate, and Get-ASTestDetails help topics in the AdminStudio 11.5 SP1 Help Library. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 16

The Application Manager product selection tree, Test Center, and the Conflict Wizard all have significant performance gains. Operating System Compatibility and Browser Compatibility Tabs are Now Separated In AdminStudio 11.5, the test results of Operating System Compatibility and Browser Compatibility testing were combined in one column/tab on the Test Center Group View, Test Center Application View, and Test Center Deployment Type View. In AdminStudio 11.5 SP1, the Operating System Compatibility and Browser Compatibility test results are now each displayed in their own column on the Test Center Group View and Test Center Application View. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 18

Also, on the Test Center Deployment Type View, the Browser Compatibility tab is displayed for web applications, while the OS Compatibility tab is displayed for MSI and App-V packages. Ability to Suppress Tree View on Test Center Group View and Application View In AdminStudio 11.5, a tree view displaying applications with their deployment types was displayed on the Test Center Group View and Application View. Figure 7: Test Center Group View in AdminStudio 11.5 / Tree View When an Application Catalog contains a large number of applications, displaying this tree view could require a significant amount of processing time. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 19

To improve performance, you now have the option of no longer displaying application nodes and their deployment type nodes in a tree view on the Test Center Group View and Application View. Instead, you can choose to display application nodes/deployment type nodes in a flat view: Test Center Group View When a single group node is selected in the tree, all of the applications in the selected group are listed, along with their test status icons. If the selected group contains a subgroup, that group is also listed. Application View When an application is selected in the tree, all of that application s deployment type nodes are listed, along with their test status icons. There is a new option on the Test Center tab of the Options dialog box to control this option: Show Test Center Group View as tree list. By default, this option is not selected. Test Center includes the following features: Test Center Ribbon: Single-Click Testing and Issue Resolution Test Run Optimization Group Summary Views Package Summary Views Package Detail Views Automatic Issue Resolution Tests Available in Test Center Test Center Ribbon: Single-Click Testing and Issue Resolution When using Test Center, with a single click you can simultaneously test groups of Windows Installer and App-V packages for operating system compatibility, Windows Installer/App-V best practices, and application virtualization compatibility. You can also quickly perform conflict analysis between source and target packages/operating systems using a streamlined Conflict Wizard. Figure 10: Buttons on the Test Center Tab Test Run Optimization When you initiate testing, Test Center checks to see which of the selected tests have already been run on the selected applications. If an application s packages or associated transform files have not changed, Test Center will run only those tests which have not yet been run. This enables you to halt testing at any time, and restart it later without unnecessarily repeating the run of any of the selected tests. Group Summary Views In Test Center views, an icon is used to indicate the test status of groups, applications, and packages. For packages, the status icon identifies that package s test status. For groups and applications, Test Center considers all of the packages in that group or application, and displays the status icon for the package that has the highest level of importance, indicating that action should be taken. On the Test Center Group View, you can expand a group node to view its applications, and can expand an application node to view its packages. Icons indicate the test status of groups, applications, and packages. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 24

Integration With Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit In AdminStudio 11.5, you can integrate Application Manager with your Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit (ACT) database and display test results in Test Center and in a report on the Report Center tab. These reports show the Microsoft ACT compatibility status for all applications in the AdminStudio catalog, bringing together package level and dynamic user testing into a single place for integrated analysis. Figure 14: Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit Assessment Report Web Application Testing For Web applications, AdminStudio Application Compatibility Pack 11.5 now provides compatibility testing for Internet Explorer 10 in addition to testing for Internet Explorer 8 and 9 to ensure that applications delivered via browsers will function as expected. You can now import web applications into the Application Catalog and perform compatibility testing. Application Manager offers two types of testing for web applications: Static analysis Application Manager runs a series of tests to determine the web application s compatibility with Internet Explorer 8, 9, and 10. Application Manager crawls the web site and runs the selected browser compatibility tests on each page, up to the maximum number of links specified. Dynamic analysis Application Manager launches the web application in your browser. Then, as you perform tasks and navigate around the web application, Application Manager records any warnings or errors that are encountered while using that version of the browser. You can use dynamic analysis to test web pages that are generated after the user provides input, such as when performing a search or submitting a form. Each time the page loads, the page is retested. You should always use dynamic testing when a web application requires a login to access. AdminStudio 11.5 SP2 Release Notes ADM-115SP2-RN01 28

Advanced Reporting on Report Center Tab On the Report Center tab, AdminStudio provides a wide array of reports containing Application Catalog summary information on the Windows Installer and App-V packages in your Application Catalog, giving you insight into the readiness of those packages for distribution and for conversion to virtual packages. These reports include test results from OS and browser compatibility testing, best practices testing, and inter-application conflict testing. They also include information about the App-V packages in your Application Catalog, as well as Microsoft System Center Configuration Manager deployment information. Figure 15: Report on Report Center Tab On most reports, you can click categories in the charts to open more detailed reports, and view information at the package and issue level. Because these reports are created using Microsoft SQL Reporting Services, you can create your own custom reports by adding client report definition (.rdlc) files to the AdminStudio installation directory.
