VISA Citizens of the EU/EEA member states and of the following countries may travel to Hungary without a visa: Andorra, Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Costa Rica, Croatia, Guatemala, Holy See, Honduras, Hong Kong (the exemption applies only to holders of a Hong Kong Special Administrative Region ), Iceland, Israel, Japan, Macao (the exemption applies only to holders of a Regio Administrativa Especial de Macau passport), Malaysia, Mexico, Monaco, New Zealand, Nicaragua, Norway, Panama, Paraguay, Salvador, San Marino, Singapore, South Korea, Switzerland, United States of America, Uruguay, Venezuela. Stateless persons and refugees having a travel document issued by one of the above mentioned states can enter without a visa. Stateless persons and refugees residing in a Member State, having a travel document issued by the Member State concerned are entitled for a visa free entry. Member State means: old and new Schengen Member States, Cyprus, Romania and Bulgaria. In possession of a valid D+C visa issued by one of the Schengen states, within the first three month of the validity of the visa, the holder is entitled for a visa free entry. In possession of a D visa, the holder may only transit through Hungary to the issuing country without visa. In possession of a valid residence permit and other documents listed in Annex 4 of the Common Consular Instructions, foreigners have the right for a visa free circulation within the Schengen Area not exceed 3 months in any 6 months. Holders of United Nations laisser paissez may enter without a visa. According to bilateral visa agreements holders of diplomatic and service passports may be entitled for a visa free entry. Please check the website of the MFA (www. kulugyminiszterium.hu). EU students: No student visa is needed for citizens of EU, EEA countries and countries of the Schengen Area, but within 90 days after your arrival you need to arrange a residence permit in Hungary. Details will be given on registration. More information will be provided at the registration.

HEALTH INSURANCE All students must have a valid health insurance plan during their stay in Hungary. International health insurance: You can arrange your health insurance in your home country. Please ask your insurance company whether you are fully covered in Hungary. If you are an EU citizen there is a possibility for you to contract a health insurance that is valid in all countries of the European Union. The type of the form is E/111, which is available at your national health insurance department. Usually, you have to pay your medical bill right away and your insurance company will reimburse your expenses. Providencia health insurance (offered by the University): You can sign up for a Hungarian health insurance plan provided by the Generali-Providencia Company, at the time of registration. The cost is 26.500 HUF (approx. 90 EUR) per semester. Your health care provider is located on campus. The insurance policy does not cover dental treatment (except for emergency cases), pre-natal and abortive treatment, cosmetic and rehabilitation treatment, alcohol and drug abuse cases, routine medical check-ups and HIV treatment. ACCOMMODATION Private Rented Accommodation For guidance on renting private accommodation, students are advised to come to Szeged before the semester starts in order arrange their accommodation. Our team will be happy to help you find a home (contacting the landlord, visiting the flat, signing the rental contract). The service is free from July to the end of September. Prices may vary from a minimum of 40,000 HUF to a maximum of 100,000 HUF per month depending on the flat's location and comfort. A deposit is usually required and utilities are not included in the rent. If you wish to use this service, please make an appointment either by email or by phone. TRAVEL Szeged is situated in the South-East of Hungary. It is easily accessible by rail or road from most major Hungarian cities. Budapest is 175 km away. The University of Szeged, Faculty of Medicine is located in the center of the city. You can call the taxi companies (Rádió taxi +36-62-480-480; Tempo taxi +36-62-490-490 or +36-80-822-222 (free number); Gábriel taxi +36-62-470-470, Taxi 3 +36-62-333-333). If you prefer public transportation, you can take tram No.1 (just opposite the railway station) or bus No.83. Public transportation is relatively extensive, reliable and cheap. Fares can be paid on board (300 HUF), but it is always cheaper if you purchase a ticket in advance (240 HUF). If you travel without a validated ticket, you have to pay a fine. Tickets are valid for one ride only; a new ticket must be validated every time you change lines. Tickets can

be validated on board of trams and buses (in red or orange punch slots). Daily, weekly and monthly passes are also available. Tickets and passes can be purchased at the main railway station, newsstands and tobacco shops. University canteens always offer inexpensive meals. Living expenses are reasonable in Hungary as prices here and in other Central and Eastern European countries remain highly favorable for Western Europeans. Public transport is generally inexpensive. Banks Banks are open Monday to Friday 8.00-16.00. You can change money at any bank, exchange office and larger post offices. Visa Electron, Plus, MasterCard and EuroCard are the most popular bank/credit cards in Hungary, and you can easily find ATM machines in Szeged as well. Post office Post offices are open Monday to Friday 8.00-19.00 and Saturday 8.00-13.00. Public transport Bus, tram and trolley bus tickets can be purchased at any newsstand or at the ticket offices and booths of the Szeged Public Transportation Company. A day pass gives you unlimited use of public transport for one day. Buses, trams and trolley buses run from 5.00-23.00. Shops Shops are usually open from Monday to Friday 9.00-18.00, Saturday 9.00-13.00. Shopping Centers Tesco: This is a convenient hypermarket with small shops as well. You can reach this store by taking tram 1 or buses 2, 83, 83A, 90, 90Y, 90F and trolley bus 8. Cora: This is another hypermarket, where you can also find anything you need. It is easy to reach by the free Cora bus or by bus 79. Szeged Plaza (Kossuth L. sgt. 119): It is a shopping centre with several small shops. Napfény Park: More than 40 different shops can be found in this shopping centre. Coop: this shop is in the centre, approx. 5 minutes from Campus. Markets The biggest market in Szeged is on Mars tér, at the bus station. Non-stop shops There is a shop in the city centre that is open over night. It is located in Kelemen utca.
