I. Overview and Introduction Welcome Announcement Information and Objectives Include course syllabus, learning objectives, student expectations (class policies & procedures), textbook information, and outline of course content, due dates of assignments (class schedule), course grading or student assessment policies and procedures (grading policy). How to contact the instructor and expected response time for email replies, posting grades, etc. (instructor responsiveness). My Library resource area is available to students. 1

II. Materials and Resources Structure Copy Check Materials Copyright Citation All course modules are available and clearly identified. There is an apparent progression through the course. All module content is available and logically sequenced from introduction, learner guide (lecture notes), to summary or review. content supports the learning objectives. III. Learner Assessment & Measurements Assessments Assignments Self/Peer- Assessment Assignments support learning objectives. Feedback is provided to students. Provides various assessment techniques to address differences in learning styles. Provide active or student-directed learning. Student expectations, due dates, and any grading rubrics are clearly communicated. Assignment links or other features of Blackboard are used making it easy for students to submit assignments. Provide varied and frequent self-assessment methods such as quizzes, reflection activities, group work, or other strategies to guide learners and provide feedback. 3

Communication & Student Collaboration Questions about the Online Discussion Communication Tools Asynchronous and/or synchronous communication Provide an open forum where students can post questions to be answered by the instructor or other students. Discussion forums or other online discussion is available and used consistently throughout the course. Discussions are designed to promote critical thinking and studentdirected learning. Provides various tools and methods to promote student collaboration and interaction. Tools are provided to students. Collaboration activities support learning objectives. 4

Alternative or optional methods are provided for synchronous technologies so not to create time-barriers for students. Media used have clear instructional purposes that reinforce the content and support the learning objectives. Require little download time and are accessible in Blackboard or a standard web browser. Media that requires a player provides clear instructions and downloads links. 5

VI. Learner Engagement & Motivation Interaction and Participation Social Motivation and Self- Regulation Uses a variety of methods and strategies for establishing a sense of community among learners (actively engage learner). Student-to-student & student-to-instructor interaction. Students have several opportunities to engage in student-to-student learning activities and student-to-instructor interaction. Tools such as discussion boards, blogs, wikis, group activities, or social media activities are utilized to promote engagement and support the learning objectives. Expectations regarding student interaction in the course are clearly defined. Uses a balance of strategies and activities to foster group work as well as support intrinsic motivation. Provide access to upcoming course content and prior modules to support learners as they construct knowledge (advanced access to assessment activities is not implied). Promote learning contexts that may be personally important to the learners and provide some choices the student can make about their own learning; e.g., goals, research topics, etc. 6

VII. Evaluation & Assessment Plan for Improvement Student Feedback Assessment Plan Other than the university s end-of-the semester course evaluation; the course includes methods and strategies for students to provide feedback on their learning experience. A survey early in the semester may be one avenue to collect such feedback in order to make course adjustments. Faculty to contact the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning for assistance with developing an assessment plan for this course or using assessment or evaluation data to revise this course. 7
