1 Psychology 2 Online Syllabus Welcome to Psychology 2 online. This course will introduce you to the various study areas encompassed by the field of biological psychology. All of your course work will be completed on line there will be no face to face meetings. All correspondence with your instructor will be conducted via and through your online course classroom. Student Learning Outcome: Students will analyze a specific behavior and discuss the various biological influences that may have led to the development of this behavior. Each of the four major biological contribution areas must be addressed; genetic influences, brain function, neurotransmitter action and hormonal influences. Book Quizzes: You will be given 30 minutes to take a 10 point book quiz online. Once you open the quiz the timer starts. You will not be able to take it later so please set aside 30 minutes to complete the quiz. Your quizzes are due Sunday evenings at 11:55 pm. All quizzes close at 11:55 pm, if you start at 11:40, you will only have 15 minutes to take the test. The test material is taken directly from a test bank. Book quizzes will not be re-opened unless a computer error has occurred. In this event, you must me as soon as the gliche occurs so that I can verify that you were indeed taking it. If you miss a book quiz, you have been given a grace of 10 points to miss one. Please do not wait until the last minute as emergencies do occur, but since they have been open for a week, they are not a legitamate excuse. Lectures: Your lectures will be provided for you under modules and they will consist of narrated PowerPoint slides. It is my intention to give you the same experience in this online version of the class as what you would get in a face to face setting. Your lecture test will come from the lectures. There may be material that is presented that is not in your textbook so you will have to follow the lectures. Additionally, please be aware that I do not follow the textbook sequence in my order of chapter presentation. Here is your course layout for the chapters 4, 2, 3, 5, 14, 10, 11, 12, 15 The lecture quizzes will be multiple choice. You will be given 40 minutes to complete the lecture test. Discussions You have discussion posts due throughout the semester- Some of them are opinion posts and some of them are research posts. The opinion posts are worth 5 points each and the reaction posts are worth 10 points each. These discussion posts are like reaction papers. You do not have to reply to other peoples discussion, but please note that you will be quizzed on students posts in your discussion quizzes. 10 points- well sumarized good points in depth explanation- post shows strong work involved- you went above and beyond the assignments basics. 5 or more strong sentences. No grammar or spelling errors 8- good summary, but key points could have been added Less than 5 strong sentences. May have some grammar or spelling errors or sources were not well documented 6 - Average post- you did what you were asked and it was written well Less than 4 strong sentences. May have some grammar or spelling errors or sources were not well documented 4- posted, but it lack depth and had many writing errors less than 3 strong sentences- Sources may not have been well documented 2- posted, but it was extremely weak in information or the information was non-credible. Less than 2 strong sentences. sources may not have been well documented. I tend to get a bit overwhelmed by the discussion posts, so usually I will just put in the grade. However, you can be sure that I am reading them, as I will be writing the discussion quizzes from your posts. Discussion quizzes

5 I feel it is important that we read everyone's discussion post, however when we are replying with lots of feedback, the discussion board tends to get out of control and difficult to decipher. Also Psychology 2 is a science type class so while there are opinions that can be shared, many times the material to be learned is simply factual. For these two reasons, I am going to have discussion quizzes instead of encouraging you to provide lots of feedback to your classmates. I will write a multiple choice quiz. The quiz will consist of 10 questions that can come from anywhere on the discussion board posts for the preceding two weeks. Discussion Posts- Note these are mini reaction papers. They should be at least 5 strong sentences long. See rubric above for grading. NO LATE DISCUSSIONS WILL BE ALLOWED AS THE DISCUSSION QUIZ MUST BE WRITTEN AND POSTED IMMEDIATELY. A week by Week Quiz schedule is on the link under syllabus for all course due dates. Final Exam The final exam is cumulative and will cover the basics of psychology. It has been designed to help you connect all of your semester work into a coherent picture. It will consist of short answer and multiple choice questions. Final Exam:Your final exam date is during the first week of June. Course Work Due Dates are on the week by week schedule Each of the above assignments will have a specific due date, you wlll need to print out your course schedule (see other link under syllabus) and schedule your life appropriately to meet deadlines. College Holidays- Please note that since this is an online class, we do not specifically observe college holidays. Classroom Conduct

6 The online classroom should be considered analogous to a face to face classroom. All behavior should be conducted professionally. You should refrain from using any profanity and you should be courteous to your fellow students. It is okay to disagree with their opinions, but no personal character attacks should ever occur. You may use the course chat room for assignments and questions, but please do not use it for unrelated socializing. You can arrange to use other forms of communication such as instant messenger.
