AARHUS UNIVERSITY Professors Michael Goodsite October 2010 Slide 2 of 22 N-CMAEP Duration: 2010 2013 Aim: To establish an interdisciplinary strategic approach for addressing solutions to the changing climate by concretely addressing adaptation to climate change mitigation policies through a core transdisciplinary Network of Nordic researchers
AARHUS UNIVERSITY Professors Michael Goodsite October 2010 Slide 3 of 22 N-CMAEP The goal: is to define a core Network for the development of a Nordic climate competence that can: Identify common challenges in an integrated and costeffective way Address the need to identify impacts and overall costs for adaptation as it relates to climate mitigation policy at the local level Do we have every expert in N-CMAEP? Certainly not there is definite synergy to be gained from the other networks!
AARHUS UNIVERSITY Professors Michael Goodsite October 2010 Slide 4 of 22 Three main research questions: 1. What are the core societal, economic and environmental features to be taken into consideration when developing a regional Nordic strategy for climate adaptation? 2. How does this couple with the natural science and engineering state of the art, with respect to climate mitigation? 3. Which specific indicators can be developed for assessing climate adaptation strategies at a broader regional level?

EU Flagships, EU grants and Europe-Aid grants where N-CMAEP is mentioned as a strength
AARHUS UNIVERSITY Professors Michael Goodsite October 2010 Slide 9 of 22 Upcoming activities Support to NORDCLADs conference and PhD school The 2d annual N-CMAEP meeting will be held on 21. August - 24. August 2011 in Reykjavik, Iceland. The purpose of the meeting is to finalize the N-CMAEP white paper In addition to group work on the white paper and grant opportunities, there will be presentations from key Icelandic experts and U.S. partners Tours arranged to see first-hand some of the mitigation and adaptation challenges Iceland faces and how they are dealing with them
AARHUS UNIVERSITY Professors Michael Goodsite October 2010 Slide 10 of 22 Organizational challenges we are working on Synergy and added benefit through collaboration with the other TFI activities many of them are very relevant We look forward to working together in N-CMAEP and NORD-STAR with all relevant partners as our ressources permit N-CMAEP activities will be aligned with NORD-STAR activities to add value to both
