Why? because Capsule knows what it takes to connect. Connecting virtually Any medical device to Any information system
Capsule s Enterprise Medical Device Connectivity Solution Capsule s Enterprise Medical Device Connectivity solution was designed to fit the way the clinician works and the way the hospital works. It features connectivity options that work in all care areas of the hospital from critical care, to the operating room, to med-surg, to the emergency department and more. And it doesn t lock hospitals into one method of operation and deployment and therefore offers the most flexible, scalable solution available. The key components of Capsule s Enterprise Device Connectivity Solution are Capsule s DataCaptor Connectivity Software and the Capsule Neuron platform. When combined, these components deliver a patient-centered design that works with existing technologies and infrastructures and integrates with caregiver work processes. TYPICAL ARCHITECTURE We recently partnered with Capsule to deploy their Capsule Neuron platform across our institution. We are excited at the prospect of deploying one of the most innovative advancements that we have seen in this space in some time. Darren Dworkin, CIO, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center
DataCaptor Connectivity Software DataCaptor Connectivity software is the core software component of Capsule s Enterprise Device Connectivity Solution. It manages the communication between the medical devices and the destination Clinical Information System(s). It is the most proven, reliable software available for device integration. There are two types of DataCaptor Connectivity Software that are designed to meet the varying acuity needs of the hospital DataCaptor Continuous Connectivity Software and DataCaptor Periodic Connectivity Software. DataCaptor Continuous Connectivity Software enables the automatic collection of data continuously from multiple devices for a single patient in higher acuity environments such as the ICU. This automatic collection of all vitals and device data, from all connected devices, allows clinicians in these environments to focus on patient care with the confidence of knowing that no data will be lost and that all values will be completely accurate and readily available when they have time to chart. DataCaptor Periodic Connectivity Sofware enables the automatic collection of vital signs from a single device, such as a spot check monitor, as well as the validation and submission of those vitals to the patient s record right from the point of care. It is ideal for environments such as med surg where charting is less frequent but where there are multiple patients. And it ensures that vital signs are delivered to the patients chart in near real time for rapid decision making. Capsule Neuron The Capsule Neuron is the key hardware component of Capsule s Enterprise Device Connectivity Solution. It is the first, intelligent touch screen platform dedicated to managing device connectivity at the bedside. It features a touch-enabled display and is the only platform in its class that is completely flexible and scalable. Flexibility and scalability are achieved through the variety of options available to a hospital for configuration based upon their clinical and organizational needs. These options currently include: DataCaptor Continuous or Periodic Connectivity Software running locally on the Capsule Neuron Adaptable patient to device association methods to match established clinical work processes Wired or wireless options for easier deployment and for those instances where hospitals want to avoid network drops And, Capsule is expanding the platform to offer additional applications in the near future that the hospital will be able to easily add in the field via the field upgradeable, expandable design.
Capsule Neuron s Status Application for Higher Acuity Environments Status Application - Enables continuous vitals collection from multiple medical devices - Allows the clinician to spend more time on direct patient care - Provides universal view of connectivity status at the bedside - Features data caching for enhanced data protection - Delivers wired or wireless networking options In higher acuity environments, such as the intensive care or the operating room, continuous monitoring is often required. When deployed in these environments the Capsule Neuron is typically mounted on the wall and assigned to one patient for continuous collection of vitals from multiple devices. In these environments, the touch enabled bedside display provides clinicians at the bedside with a universal view of connectivity status for all medical devices connected to a patient, including devices that are connected locally to the Capsule Neuron and devices that are networked via the hospitals wired or wireless LAN. This visual display provides clinicians with continuous assurance that vital signs are automatically being sent from devices directly to the information system so they can focus on patient care. And, the status application also features a status log so clinicians can easily manage connectivity and troubleshoot connectivity issues right from the point of care. Capsule s solution gives our staff more direct patient care time and improves the accuracy of information by eliminating the human error possibility in transcribing the data. Carlos Marconi, RRT, Clinical Coordinator, St. Clare s Hospital
Capsule Neuron s Mobile Vitals Plus Application for Lower Acuity Environments Mobile Vitals Plus: - Works with the hospitals existing spot check monitors - Ensures that vital signs are charted accurately - Improves the timeliness of vitals documentation - Reduces charting duplication and workarounds - Enhances clinical decision-making since vitals are readily available in the patient s record - Allows the clinician to spend more time on direct patient care Works with Hospitals Existing Spot Check Monitors When deployed in lower acuity environments, such as med surg, the Capsule Neuron is typically mounted on a roll stand with the spot check monitor the hospital is already using to feature an all in one application called Mobile Vitals Plus. Mobile Vitals Plus enables positive patient identification and the automatic collection, validation and submission of vital signs to the EMR right from the point of care. The design of Mobile Vitals Plus fits within the established clinical workflow and allows clinicians to collect and submit vitals for multiple patients to the EMR faster and easier than ever before. The touch enabled bedside display features intuitive, step by step instructions to guide the clinician. And decision making is enhanced because vitals are delivered to the patient s record in near real time for review by physicians and care management staff thereby complementing hospitals CPOE initiatives.
Capsule Neuron s Future Applications Hospitals are choosing Capsule because they agree with our hospital wide vision; to deliver patient-centric solutions that seamlessly integrate all medical devices with their EMR in the patient care environment and create prompted workflows for improved patient care and safety across the enterprise. We have the experience. We have the technology. We have the partnerships. We therefore are, and will continue to be, the worldwide leader in device integration. Arnaud Houette, CEO, Capsule TechnologiE The Capsule Neuron is the only platform in its class that is expandable and can be easily upgraded in the field to add additional applications and features. This means that hospitals can deploy their solution at a pace that fits their needs and budget and then add on to the platform as those needs change and grow. Not only does this include the ability to add current available features and applications such as periodic or continuous data collection or bar code scanning for PPID, it also includes future applications. As the leading provider of device connectivity, Capsule has an extensive product roadmap of future applications that we are designing with our partners and customers to address the growing connectivity, patient care and safety needs of hospitals. Our future applications feature solutions that will enable an optimized workflow and address the challenges around managing association at the bedside; all designed with the clinician in mind to ensure the delivery of patient-centric care solutions that fit the way the nurse works. We know that hospitals don t want to be locked into one way of performing device integration. We know that hospitals want a solution that can grow as their needs and their budget allows. And we know what those solutions need to be and what it will take to develop them. Why? because Capsule knows what it takes to connect.
