Arkeia Network is a powerful, enterprise-ready network backup solution, available in three deployment modes, that provides data protection for virtually all network sizes and environments. Arkeia Network Suite: Version 8 Proven Solutions for Data Protection Protecting and ensuring the availability of data are among the most important and most difficult tasks for information technology (IT) administrators. This task grows more complex with the advent of new regulations, changing IT environments, and reduced IT budgets. But backing up data doesn t have to be complicated, time consuming, or expensive. The award-winning Arkeia Network Suite Version 8 delivers features to increase reliability and flexibility, to reduce costs, and to improve backup performance for both distributed and virtualized infrastructures. Best-of-Breed Solutions Arkeia Software is an engineering-centric company specialized in network backup solutions. This focus began in 1996 and initially fueled a $10M venture capital investment, that has allowed the company to grow organically, without acquisition. We have assembled a core engineering team with deep expertise in system software in general, and backup software in particular. This organic growth has allowed us to evolve a consistent architecture so all our products interoperate seamlessly across over 150 platforms, simplifying backup deployment and operation. For example, our Version 8 backup servers still support Version 4 backup agents, minimizing costs of software administration. Since 1999 we ve supported both backup-to-tape and backup-to-disk. We introduced replication across virtual tape libraries (VTL) in 2007, and backup-to-cloud in 2008. Scalable Architecture for Flexibility The Arkeia Network Suite was engineered as a network backup solution. From the start, the software was architected to backup one or thousands of data sources using shared backup servers and storage devices. Our software scales as your company grows, ensuring that you won t outgrow our backup solution. A single Arkeia can manage between a handful and thousands of s, depending on variables including the file volume to be backed up, the network performance, and the length of the backup window. At the same time, dozens or hundreds of backup servers can be centrally managed by Arkeia s Central Management (CMS). Central Management reduces costs and simplifies data backups of multisite companies. 150 Platforms: One Solution Arkeia offers s for over 150 platforms, supporting virtually all Linux and Windows platforms, as well as AIX, BSD, HP-UX, Irix, Macintosh, Netware, and Solaris. See the complete list at http://www.arkeia.com/r/platforms. Our generic agents back up files, as well as the data structures (e.g. the Registry and Active Directory for Microsoft Windows) that are specific to an operating system. We also offer specialized agents for hot backups of open files used by applications, databases, and virtualization server hypervisors. Our software integrates support for data compression and data encryption. We even write on every backup tape the C-language source code to restore your data. So, even if you ve lost our software, you ll always be able to restore your data. Near-Universal Tape Support Arkeia s support all storage devices that respect the SCSI II standard over 600 devices and virtually all tape drives, autoloaders, and libraries. Arkeia interoperates with all industry standard Virtual Tape Libraries (VTL), including FalconStor s advanced dedup solutions. Easy to Deploy; Easy to Administer For all deployments the Arkeia Network software (or firmware) can be downloaded from our Web site. Simply download the software and run the installation script. All software products are available with a free 30-day evaluation license. Configure and administer the products using either our Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) or our command-line interface (CLI). Support for pre and post scripts allow administrators to execute custom commands before and/or after a backup job. 2 of 8
Arkeia Network Suite Components Arkeia Network Suite consists of its core s and s, and the advanced and Central Management. These software products are available on over 150 platforms, and are delivered specific to an architecture (e.g. Intel x86) and an operating system (e.g. Ubuntu Linux). One component, the Arkeia s, can be deployed as a software application, hardware appliance, or virtual appliance. Various other components are specialized to particular third-party software. s An Arkeia oversees the backup of one or many thousands of data sources. s manage storage devices, whether tape, VTL, disk, or cloud resources. s are managed through either a Web-based graphical user interface (GUI) or a command-line interface (CLI). Because both interfaces are built on the same foundation, the same operations can be performed identically through either interface. s are composed of Catalog s and Media s. The Media can be independently installed on a remote machine in order to manage storage devices connected to that machine. This capability is the Arkeia Remote Storage Option (RSO). Multiple Media s can share a single storage device across a storage area network (SAN). This capability is the Arkeia Shared Storage Option (SSO). Arkeia s interoperate with Network Data Management Protocol (NDMP) devices, both to backup these devices and to save backups to these devices. Our NDMP support provides agentless backups of network attached storage devices. Other capabilities include Disk-to-Disk-to-Tape, Tape Duplication, and the restore process. Arkeia s also control s. The utilization of LAN bandwidth during backups is controlled by the. By limiting the share of LAN bandwidth used, or by scheduled backups at off-hours, administrators can minimize impacts on LAN performance. s Arkeia s, installed on the data source computers, manage the backup of individual data sources. Generic s are specific to a platform (architecture and operating system version) and back up files and system data structures required by each operating system. For example, all Akeia s for Microsoft Windows platforms back up the Registry, Active Directory, Certificate Service, Event Logs, and Com+ data structures. In addition to Generic s, Arkeia offers Specialized s for hot backups of important applications, databases, and virtualization server hypervisors. Examples include MS Exchange, Oracle, MySQL, Lotus Domino, and VMware. Each of these Specialized s uses application programming interfaces (APIs) furnished by the third-party software vendor. First, backups are performed to disk, with or without the LAN, keeping backup windows to a minimum. After the backup is complete, a transfers the backup set from the Media storage to a Catalog on a remote computer. Virtual Machine s VMware ESX Hypervisor Options include Encryption and Disaster Recovery. Encryption, like Arkeia s integrated compression, takes place on the ( client-side ). All and Options features are managed through the command-line and graphical user interfaces of the. Disaster Recovery Arkeia offers bare-metal restores for Linux and Windows platforms. We support the full range of Windows s, including Windows NT, 2000, XP, Vista, 2003, 2008, and Version 7. Linux disaster recovery is supported on all x86 platforms, both 32- and 64-bit, for all Linux distributions. With bare-metal Disaster Recovery the restore process includes restoring data structures necessary to make the target machine bootable. The same data structures, such as the Windows Registry, are backed up whether or not Disaster Recovery is anticipated. Arkeia also allows offline backups that record a block-by-block disk image. s The Arkeia copies backup sets between s at one or more locations across a wide area network (WAN). The backup set is replicated without its index to minimize the volume of data transferred. After the backup set is fully transferred, the destination Catalog regenerates the index. The Catalog can then copy the indexed Set to VTL or tape using a local Media. is scripted through the command-line interface or can be invoked or queued through the Web-based graphical user interface. Central Management s Administrators use the Arkeia Central Management (CMS) to manage multiple s from a single dashboard. Central Management LAN or WAN The central management server typically runs on the same hardware as a, but can run on distinct hardware. The CMS can be connected over a low-bandwith network to the s because only control, not data, pass between the CMS and the s. The central dashboard allows improved control of the backup process due to reporting on backup performance (e.g. backup window, disk and tape utilization, partial or failed backups). Further, global data management policies can be implemented to ensure corporate policies and regulatory requirements are being met. 4 of 8

Arkeia protects over 150 different platforms, including virtually all Linux and Windows versions, as well as AIX, HP-UX, Irix, Macintosh, Novell, and Solaris operating systems, all across multiple architectures. Arkeia solutions can manage hot backups of all mainstream applications, databases, and hypervisors, including Microsoft Exchange, DB2, Microsoft SQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, and VMware. Arkeia allows flexible backup strategies, including rapid backups to disk with subsequent archiving to tape or cloud. improves data security because backups can be stored at remote sites without transporting tapes by truck. Data can be restored from either local or remote locations. Remote Storage Option (RSO) allows backups to be written to storage that is local to the data source eliminating data transport over the LAN. Shared Storage Option (SSO) allows a single SAN-attached storage device to be shared by multiple backup servers concurrently. Data compression is implemented with industry-standard ZIP compression algorithms to minimize storage required for backup sets. Data encryption option performs encryption and decryption on clients (not the server) to maximize data security. Arkeia mounts only the media (e.g. tapes) necessary to restore the desired version of each file, minimizing time needed for restores. Both files and system data (e.g. Windows Registry, Windows Active Directory) are backed up to allow restore to a bootable disk. Arkeia writes readarkeia source code at the beginning of every backup tape. This C-language code allows the restore of any Arkeia Network backup set without Arkeia Network software. 5 of 8
