Chenille Stitch with Border by Jill Wiseman 2016. All rights reserved. Supply List Necklace Size 11 seed beads in main color Size 11 seed beads in accent color (border and between main color Fireline, 6lb Size 12 needle You ll be using a netting variation technique for this project, called the Chenille stitch. It s very repetative, and very addictive! And unlike a traditional netted rope, a Chenille sitched rope will not collapse down on itself it stays rounded! The video demonstration of the Chenille stitch can be found here on the Jill Wiseman Designs YouTube channel: https://youtu.be/ipyubx3l-sm Ladder Stitch Start Cut off a comfortable length of Fireline and thread your needle. For beginners, I suggest using a wingspan (outstretched arm to outstretched arm) for length. You ll need to blunt the end of the Fireline to thread it through the needle. Chenille Stitch with Border Page 1

Pick up 4 accent color seed beads and pull them down your thread so you have about a 6 tail remaining below them. From the tail end moving back upwards, pass through the first 2 beads the beads that were on top will fold over so that you ll have 2 beads next to 2 beads. (You might have to nudge them with your finger to fold over they way they should.) Without adding any beads, pass from top to bottom through the two beads on the right so you re at the end of the section and you re ready to add more beads. Pick up 2 more beads, and pass from top to bottom through the beads on the left. You re anchoring the beads you just picked up to the rest of the section. Chenille Stitch with Border Page 2

Now you need to get to the end of the section again to be able to add more beads, so without adding any more beads, pass from bottom to top of the two beads to the right to get to the end. BIG GIANT TIP: Remember that when you add 2 beads, you ll need to anchor them to the bead strip by passing through the opposite side from where your working thread is coming out. Continue adding 2 beads at a time until you have a group of 6 beads wide by 2 beads tall. Then you ll have to get to the end of the strip to be in position to add more beads by passing through the beads you just added, so you ll pass through the beads you just added. Now we ll join the ends of your bead strip together to make circle. Fold the strip in half like a taco. Pass through the beads on both ends in a circle to join them, and end by coming out the top of any bead. Create the Chenille rope Step 1 the first row of Chenille stitch is basically a herringbone row using the main color seed beads. So pick up 2 main color seed bead, and then pass through the first bead to the left (from top to bottom.) Now you ll need to pass through the next bead to the left (from bottom to top) to get in a position to add more beads. You may need to nudge one of the beads you just added with your finger to get it to sit in place. Keep adding sets of 2 beads just like that first one until you have completely filled the circle of beads and there s no place to add more. Chenille Stitch with Border Page 3

Now you ll have to make a step up to the next row so you can continue. Instead of going up through just the top bead to the left, at the end of a row, you ll have to step up through the top 2 beads so you come out the top. Step 2 Pick up 1 accent color bead, and then pass down the next main color bead. To get in place to add another bead, pass up the next main color bead. Repeat until you ve added three beads total on top. Step up by working your thread up through the first accent color bead you added on this round. Step 3 Pick up 2 main color beads and then pass through the next accent color bead that you added on the last row. Repeat all the way around. Step up by passing through the first main color bead added this round. Step 4 Pick up 1 accent color bead and pass through the next main color bead and then make sure you SKIP the accent color bead between them, and pass through the NEXT main color bead. Your thread will sit behind the accent color bead. Repeat all the way around, and then step up through the first accent color bead added this round. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until you have the length desired. Chenille Stitch with Border Page 4

Create a divider For the last two rows, we ll be doing a row of ladder stitch, bringing the herringbone columns together and straightening up that last row of herringbone so it looks like the starting side. So after the last round of main color beads for the segment, do one round of Step 3 with the accent bead color. Then on the last row, using all accent color beads, pick up two beads and pass down one bead to the left like normal. But instead of continuing to move to the left with a herringbone stitch, you ll move backwards and pass through the top two beads on the right, from bottom to top, then down through the top two beads to the left (basically, going in a circle). You ll notice that it straightens the group of four beads up into straight lines. Pass through the top bead to the left, pick up one bead, then pass down the top two beads to the right, and through the two beads to the left (including the one you just picked up.) Continue adding one bead at a time and then looping around to both straighten the set of the last two row s beads, and also joining each of the columns together. Continue until you re at the end of the round. Enjoy! I hope you feel inspired to make many more of them the way I have been!
