These tests assess basic skills in reading, writing, and mathematics. Initially register for the Combined Test at www.ets.org/praxis if you need all three sections. You must designate the University of Delaware (5811) as one of the three free score recipients. Can retake any individual test as many times as needed. More information about the test, including tips for preparing for it and for exemptions is available online at http://www.education.udel.edu/ete/praxis/.

UDC Application The UDC application is available online at https://delaware.qualtrics.com/se/?sid=sv_1qyl3hd2cfwpmbh Students provide information on the application that could impact their program, such as: Circumstances that would impact in which semester they begin their student teaching experience. Their intention to apply to the 4+1 program. Students fall into one of three categories based on their UDC application. Cleared: All requirements are met. Provisional: All requirements will be met after completing the Spring 2015 courses successfully. Denied: One or more of the requirements are missing (e.g., low GPA, missing Praxis scores). Students can only apply for UDC once a year and need to apply if they are on track to start blocks in Fall 2015 or Spring 2016. The deadline for completing the UDC application is March 25.

UDC Application and the Block Assignment The elementary block is a semester when you will take all of your elementary methods courses. Students in the special education and middle school math concentrations take this block in fall or spring of their junior year. They will be notified prior to Fall 2015 registration of their UDC application status (e.g., provisional) and if they are completing this block in Fall 2015 or Spring 2016. Students in ESL, Urban, middle school English, science and social studies concentrations take this block in spring of their junior year. They will be notified prior to Spring 2016 registration of their UDC application status (e.g., provisional). They should discuss their Fall 2015 course schedule with Vickie Lucas. Vickie Lucas registers students for the block classes and they will be able to view their schedule in UDSIS after their registration appointment date.

Field Experience Requirements Students will need a current criminal background clearance on file at the Office of Clinical Studies (OCS) and a current TB test on file at Student Health Services prior to the elementary blocks and each semester of student teaching. The criminal background clearance is only valid for one year. Your current CBC must be submitted to OCS by the first day of classes. The web page at www.ocs.udel.edu/student-teaching/criminal-background-clearances/ shows when criminal background clearances are valid. The web page at www.ocs.udel.edu/information-for-placements/ppd-mantoux-tuberculine-test/ shows when TB tests are valid. Contact OCS at clinicalstudies@udel.edu if you have any questions about the criminal background clearance or TB test.

4+1 Program ETE students can earn a M.Ed. in Exceptional Children and Youth during a fifth (+1) year. In addition to earning the master s degree, students in the Special education concentration are also eligible for certification in Autism/ Severe Disabilities. This track is described online at http://www.education.udel.edu/4-1/autismsevere-disabilities-41-program/. Middle school or urban education or ESL concentration are also eligible for certification in special education. Links to the elementary and secondary special education tracks are available online at http://www.education.udel.edu/masters/. The application deadline is Dec. 15 of the junior year. Contact Bridget Duda at bduda@udel.edu if you have questions about the 4+1 programs.

Timing of EDUC 451 Special education students must take Educational Assessment (EDUC 451) before their elementary block. Middle school or urban education students who plan to pursue the 4+1 in special education program may need to take EDUC 451 prior to their elementary block, depending on their situation. Middle school and urban education students who do not plan to pursue the 4+1 will take EDUC 451 as part of the first student teaching semester; they should not take this course prior to the elementary block.

Praxis II Tests ETE students must take the Praxis II tests that are required for the State of Delaware teacher certification in elementary education and in the area of their concentration (e.g., special education) prior to graduation. Students must pass the Praxis II tests according to State of Delaware guidelines in order to earn institutional recommendation for teacher certification. This institutional recommendation is noted on students transcripts and is needed to apply for teacher certification in Delaware and other states. Elementary Education: Multiple Subjects students must receive a passing score on each subtest: ELA, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. You can take the subtest individually and in some cases, may be to your advantage. For example, you may want to consider taking the science subtest after completing your three general studies science courses. More information about the test, including tips for preparing for it, is available online at http://www.education.udel.edu/ete/praxis/.

Additional Information You will be assigned a new advisor at the beginning of the semester that you begin the elementary block.
