Thompson Middle School Math Online Summer Homework For the 2012-2013 school year, District 303 is adopting a new math curriculum based on the Common Core Standards. The Common Core Standards have been adopted by nearly all states in our country. They are designed to guide students to a deeper understanding of mathematics and help them develop problem solving and reasoning skills. Because the new curriculum will be more rigorous and move at a faster pace, we recommend all students review and/or preview the skills outlined for each grade level over the summer in preparation for the coming year. To support the learning of our students, we will be using a new math resource called Big Ideas Math. We are excited about the online capabilities of the program. Parents and students can easily access the textbook, instructional videos, virtual manipulatives, games, and guided practice worksheets with answer keys on the publisher s website. (http://www.bigideasmath.com/) These resources are easily accessible to any user and do not require a login or password. Practice worksheets and the online video tutorials can be found on the Big Ideas Math website. We ve also listed Khan Academy as an additional online resource. This website contains numerous math instructional videos. Guided instructions for each website are below.
