Admittance is based on a point system; therefore, it is imperative for you to pay particular attention to the point system. There is no waiting list. Use this information packet as your guide for successful entry into nursing. Unconditional admission to the college (Application must be updated if student did not attend FSCC last semester). Original transcripts from all colleges attended must be in the Admissions Office by the deadline (transcript must be sent by the institution s registrar directly to FSCC Registrar). High school transcript required if no prior accredited colleges attended. 2. Completed nursing application turned into the Nursing Department by appropriate deadline. 3. Minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale based on the last 24 credit hours for students with previous college coursework. Minimum of 2.5 cumulative high school GPA for students without prior college work (GED acceptable). 4. ASSOCIATE DEGREE PROGRAM POINT SYSTEM TO DETERMINE ADMITTANCE ADN applicants are rank-ordered using the point system below. Those with the most points are offered admittance into the program if they have met all other criteria. 1. Score from the Nursing Entrance Exam, TEAS V, (150 points possible). TEAS V must have been taken within the past 3 years for consideration. The test is scored by a percentage. Take the percent times 150 points to determine your score, i.e. a score of 68% is.68 x 150 = 102 points My Score 2. *Points for Grades in Select College Courses (90 points possible) Grade A B C BIO 201, Anatomy &Physiology I 30pts 20pts 10pts BIO 202, Anatomy &Physiology II 30pts 20pts 10pts BIO 220, Microbiology 30pts 20pts 10pts For example, a student who has an A in Anatomy I, a B in Anatomy II, and a B in Microbiology has 70 points. MOBILITY (LPN TO RN) NURSING PROGRAM POINT SYSTEM TO DETERMINE ADMITTANCE MOBILITY APPLICANTS ARE RANK ORDERED USING THE SAME POINT SYSTEM AS FOR ADN APPLICANTS (See Page 6) Mobility (LPN to ADN) applicants only, must provide a copy of a valid, unencumbered Alabama license. LPN LPN s will be required to successfully complete NUR 200 (Nursing Career Mobility Assessment) prior to integration into the nursing program in order to validate the theoretical knowledge and clinical skill level consistent with students progressing to the third semester of the ADN curriculum. Students who successfully complete this course are awarded 15 non-traditional hours at the completion of the LPN mobility curriculum. NUR 200 will be waived for LPNs who are admitted to the Mobility program within two years of graduation from the Alabama Community College System Standardized Practical Nursing Curriculum implemented in Fall 2005. Upon successful completion of the Mobility requirements, the student will follow the regular ADN curriculum outline beginning in the third semester of the program. 8

Included in this testing are examinations to evaluate areas that are essential for academic success: 1. Diagnostic and Achievement Tests help to identify your strengths and areas which need remediation in comprehending the content of the courses. 2. Pre-RN/PN mock licensure examination provides reliable predictors of success for the NCLEX (National Council Licensure Exam). 4. Specific examinations may be required as a part of progression in identified nursing courses. NOTES REGARDING OTHER ENROLLMENT REQUIREMENTS After acceptance to the Nursing Program, students will be required to provide the following: Current History & Physical Evaluation Form, completed by a licensed physician, nurse practitioner, or physician s assistant (Form provided by nursing department) Current two-man professional CPR Certification (Classes offered through nursing department) Documentation of immunizations (Form provided by nursing department) Proof of having medical insurance (Student plan available for purchase) Drug screening and background check as stipulated by the agencies which the Department of Nursing contracts for clinical experiences, and Ability to meet all Essential Functions of the Nursing Program with or without reasonable accommodations. (Note: Any student requiring accommodations must meet with the Dean of Student Development.) Internet access to access the college website for daily assignments by computer 15
HIV or HEPATITIS B REPORTING POLICY Public law #102-141, Section 633, and The Alabama Infected Health Care Worker Management Act require HIV or Hepatitis B infected healthcare workers to notify the State Health Officer within 30 days of the time the diagnosis is confirmed. Physicians caring for HIV or Hepatitis B infected healthcare workers are mandated to notify state health officials within 7 days of the diagnosis. All students are required to comply with this law. TRANSFER POLICY Students wishing to transfer must: 1. Must meet minimum admission standards for the nursing program. 2. Must possess a grade of C or better in all nursing program required courses taken at another institution and possess a minimum of a 2.0 cumulative GPA at time of transfer. 3. Dean/Director of previous nursing program must provide a letter of eligibility for progression in previous nursing program. 4. Must comply with all program policy requirements at accepting institution. 5. Complete at least 25% of the nursing program required courses for degree /certificate at the accepting institution. 6. Must meet acceptability criteria for placement at clinical agencies for clinical experience. 7. Acceptance of transfer students into nursing programs is limited by the number of faculty and clinical facilities available. Meeting minimal standards does not guarantee acceptance. 8. Student selection for transfer is based on GPA in nursing program required courses. NOTE: Students must submit the transfer packet. Transfer requests are due prior to the last 3 weeks of any given semester. Transfer packets may be downloaded from the FSCC website or may be obtained from the FSCC nursing department. NURSING ENTRANCE EXAM (TEAS) TEST OF ESSENTIAL ACADEMIC SKILLS The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) measures basic essential skills in the academic content areas of reading, mathematics, science, and English and language usage. Reading is 58 minutes with 48 questions Mathematics is 51 minutes with 34 questions Science is 66 minutes with 54 questions English and Language usage is 34 minutes with 34 questions Total time limit for testing is 209 minutes. The TEAS is composed of a total of 150 multiplechoice questions, each with four options. Questions not answered count against the student. Creating an ATI Account All individuals preparing to take the TEAS test must create an ATI account to register for the test. You may create an account by going to ATI s website at www.atitesting.com and click on Create a New Account then, follow the screen prompts. You only need to register once. All tests are paper and pencil. You will need your ATI Paper/Pencil ID to test. No calculators are allowed. Please bring this information with you to the Student Development Office on the Bay Minette Campus on your scheduled test date. The Student Development Office is located in the same building as the Admissions and Financial Aid Offices. The cost for the TEAS is $50. Payment is made on-line at the time the student registers for the test. Failure to notify ATI within 48 hours constitutes forfeit of the registration testing fee. Retesting The test may be repeated once during any semester admission time frame. The student must wait at least six (6) weeks before retesting. A student s score on a previous version of the TEAS test may be considered at the discretion of each college, provided it is within the three-year time frame.
