Choose the path that s right for you If you re bright, ambitious and keen to kick-start your career, then a Higher Apprenticeship could be ideal for you. Our Higher Apprenticeship programmes typically last between one and two years. During this time, you ll gain invaluable work experience, boost your business skills and study for our Certificate in Finance, Accounting and Business (ICAEW CFAB) qualification all at the same time as being paid a salary! We currently offer two Higher Apprenticeships in England and Wales. You can choose to work in Assurance/Audit or Tax. Both programmes are designed to give you the experience, support and on-the-job learning you need to get your career off to a great start. Not sure which option to choose? Here s a bit more information about what is involved Assurance/Audit Assurance is the review of a company s financial data and organisational procedures it assesses whether a company is operating effectively. This review is called an audit. After investigating and analysing the company information, an auditor may provide business recommendations and advice to the client. Many companies also carry out internal audits to ensure that they are on track. A typical day As a higher apprentice working in Assurance/Audit, you will learn to understand the fundamentals of business. The specific work you will undertake will be dependent on your employer, but you re likely to get involved in various stages of an audit. You will often be required to communicate your findings to senior colleagues and work effectively with clients to find solutions to business challenges. ICAEW CFAB qualification Practical experience in your chosen sector Tax Tax advisers may be employed by businesses (corporate tax) or highly paid individuals (personal tax). They may either work as a consultant to create solutions for particular tax problems, or for a client on a long-term basis, to ensure that they comply with tax rules. A typical day As a higher apprentice working in Tax, you will grow your technical knowledge and apply tax skills in your day-to-day work. The specific jobs you will undertake will be dependent on your employer, but you re likely to get involved in the preparation of tax returns and the completion of tax forms. You will often be required to communicate with clients and may get involved in delivering advice. Transferrable business skills

I applied for a Higher Apprenticeship because I already knew that I wanted a career in accountancy. The scheme was perfect for me, as I was able to earn and learn at the same time! I don t feel that I ve missed out by not going to university, as I ve gained so much practical knowledge and valuable skills which can t be learnt from a text book. I would never have got this much experience so early on in my career without doing a Higher Apprenticeship! Simone Masterson, Audit Semi Senior, Manchester
