Portable 900 MHz Wireless Speaker System Thank you for purchasing the RCA Portable 900 MHz Wireless Speaker System. Your system gives you high-quality stereo sound in the 900 MHz band to almost anywhere in or around your home. Your Speaker System's three selectable channels, PLL (Phase-Locked Loop) circuitry and built-in antenna give you precise tuning, so you can enjoy your favorite music while you exercise or work around your yard or house up to 300 feet away from your stereo. Your system has compander circuitry for optimum dynamic range and noise reduction, a 10-watt RMS amplifier in each speaker, a 2-way speaker design with 5" woofer and 1" dome tweeter. It has true stereo operation with frequency ranges from 50Hz to 20KHz (6dB bandwidth), which will offer you the best sound. There is no pilot tone spill over in this system, and this improves your sound quality. Also there is Automatic Level Control for audio input to RF transmitter for optimum FM deviation adjustment (plug and play, no user adjustment is required) Power/Transmitter Indicator lights green when the AC adapter is correctly plugged in and the audio signal is input to the transmitter. Power/Speaker Indicator lights green when the AC adapter is correctly plugged in or batteries are installed and POWER is set to ON. Your system is powered by three AC adapters (included) or 16 D batteries (not supplied, 8 for each speaker) 2003 RadioShack Corporation. All Rights Reserved.

Getting Started Your package should contain the following items Package Contents Transmitter (1) Speaker (2) AC Adapter for Transmitter (1) AC Adapter for Speaker (2) Dual RCA Male to Dual RCA Male Cable (1) 1 /8-inch Stereo Male to Dual RCA Female Adapter (1) 3-foot Cable with 1 /8-inch Stereo Male to Dual 1 /8-inch Stereo Female (1) Installing the Transmitter Choosing a Location In order to achieve the best performance, position the transmitter as far as possible from other electronic devices such as TVs, receivers, or VCRs. Radio interference from these devices could affect your system's performance. Position the transmitter away from large metal objects, as these could block your transmitter's signals. Try several locations for the transmitter. Select the location that provides the best performance. Set up the transmitter to send a wireless signal to the speakers. Connecting to AC Power Connect the transmitter to AC power with the supplied 12V, 250mA AC adapter. Plug the supplied AC adapter's barrel plug into the transmitter's DC 12V jack, then plug the adapter into a standard AC outlet. Cautions: You must use a Class 2 power source that supplies 12 volts DC and delivers at least 250mA. Its center tip must be set to positive and its plug must fit the transmitter's DC 12V jack. The supplied adapter meets these specifications. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications will damage the transmitter or the adapter. Always connect the AC adapter to the transmitter before you connect it to AC power. When you finish, disconnect the adapter from AC power before you disconnect it from the transmitter. CHANNEL 1 2 3 STEREO/ MONO AUDIOIN L/R DC 12V Jack 2

Connecting to an Audio Source You can connect the transmitter to your audio source's left and right audio output jacks or its headphone jack. Cautions: Do not connect the transmitter to your audio source's speaker output. Doing so could damage the transmitter and the audio source. If you connected the transmitter to an audio source's headphone jack, set the audio source's volume control to its middle-position. 1. Connect one end of the supplied audio patch cord to the transmitter's audio jacks (white plug to L AUDIO IN and red plug to R AUDIO IN). 2. If you are using the audio source's output jacks, connect the white and red plugs at the other end of the patch cord directly to the audio source's corresponding left (white) and right (red) audio jacks. If you are using your audio source's stereo headphone jack, connect the patch cord's white and red plugs to the white and red phono jacks on the phono side of the 1 /8-inch supplied adapter. If your audio source has a 1 /8-inch headphone jack, insert the adapter's 1 /8- inch stereo plug into the audio source's HEADPHONE jack. Mode Switch For normal stereo use, set STEREO/MONO, on the back of the transmitter, to STEREO. If you are using a monaural system, set STEREO/MONO to MONO. 3

Installing a Speaker Connecting Power Keyhole Slot Battery Compartment Cover 1. Press the two tabs located on the back of the speaker and open the battery compartment cover. 2. Insert the batteries in the compartment according to the polarity symbols (+ and ) marked inside the battery compartment. Strain Relief Slot 8 D Size Batteries Installing Batteries You can use 16 (8 for each speaker) D size batteries (not supplied) to power the speakers. Batteries are available at your local RadioShack store or online at www.radioshack.com. Battery Notes: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and recommended type. Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. If you do not plan to use the speakers for a week or longer, remove the batteries. Batteries can leak chemicals that can destroy electronic parts. Dispose of old batteries promptly and properly. Do not burn or bury batteries. Battery Compartment Cover 3. Replace the battery compartment cover and make sure the cover is secured prior to moving the speaker. Notes Unpluging the supplied AC adapter causes the batteries to automatically power the speaker. When the AC adapter is used, the batteries are automatically disconnected from the speaker. When the speakers POWER LED blinks, replace the batteries. 4

Connecting AC Power 1. Insert the supplied 12V, 1800mA AC adapter s barrel plug into the DC 12V jack located at the back of the speaker. 2. Plug the other end of the AC Adapter into an AC wall outlet. 3. Route the adapter s cord through the strain relief slot on the back of the speaker. Repeat the above steps for the other speaker. Mounting the Speakers To mount a speaker on the wall, you need a screw (not supplied) with a head that fits into the keyhole slot on the back of the speaker. 1. Select a location and drill a hole at the location. 2. Thread a screw into the hole until the screw s head extends about 15mm from the wall. 3. Align the keyhole on the speaker with the screw head in the wall, then slide the speaker downward to secure it. 5

Using Your System with Your PC Follow these steps to use your speakers with your computer. 1. Connect the male end of the supplied cable adapter ( 1 /8-inch stereo male to dual- 1 /8-inch stereo female cable) to your computer s audio output jack. Connect one of the cable ends to your existing computer speaker plug and connect the other unused 1 /8-inch female cable end to the supplied Y-Adapter ( 1 /8-inch stereo male to Dual-RCA female adapter). 2. Connect one end of the RCA adapter (Dual RCA-to-RCA) to the white and red phono jacks on the phono side of the Y-adapter ( 1 /8-inch stereo male to Dual-RCA female adapter). 3. Connect the RCA Adapter s (Dual RCA-to-RCA) left (white) cable end to the transmitter s LAUDIOIN jack and the right (red) cable end to the transmitter s R AUDIO IN jack. 6

Operation Listening Safety To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use the speaker system. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended high-volume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. Using Your Speakers Follow these steps to obtain maximum listening performance: 1. Turn on your audio source. See Transmitter AUTO ON/OFF below for the transmitter operation. 2. Set the transmitter to a frequency channel (CHANNEL 1, 2, or 3) that has no interference. Slide CHANNEL 1 2 3 at the rear of the speakers to select the same channel selected on the transmitter. 3. Turn on each speaker (Left and Right speakers) by rotating POWER from OFF to ON. You hear a click and the power indicator lights green. 4. Set SPEAKER on the back of each speaker to either L (for the Left stereo speaker) or R (for the Right stereo speaker). 5. Adjust VOLUME and BASS on each speaker between MIN (minimum) to MAX (maximum) to a comfortable listening level. 6. To turn off each speaker, rotate POWER from ON to OFF. The power indicator turns off. Transmitter AUTO ON/OFF The transmitter has a built-in automatic transmit ON/OFF controller. When the AC adapter is correctly plugged in and the transmitter receives audio signals from the audio source, the transmitter s power LED lights green. The transmission stops if the transmitter does not receive audio signals from the audio source for about one minute. The transmitter s power LED turns off when the transmitter does not receive audio signals. Channel Select If you receive interference, try changing the channel number on the transmitter and the speakers. 7

Care Keep the system dry; if it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Use and store the system only in normal temperature environments. Handle the system carefully; do not drop it. Keep the system away from dust and dirt, and wipe it with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Caution: You might permanently damage your speakers by cleaning them with a vacuum cleaner. Use a feather duster or a soft cloth instead. Service and Repair If your system is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. To locate your nearest RadioShack, use the store locator feature on RadioShack's website (www.radioshack.com), or call 1-800-The Shack (843-7422) and follow the menu options. Modifying or tampering with the system's internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate its warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. FCC Declaration of Conformity This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation. Troubleshooting We do not expect you to have problems with your speaker system; however, if you do have problems, try these troubleshooting tips. Problem Solution No sound. Be sure the speakers are turned on. Replace the speakers batteries. Be sure the AC adapter is plugged in and has power. Be sure all cables are securely connected. Be sure the audio source is turned on and turned to an active channel. Adjust the speakers volume control. Distorted audio. Be sure the speakers and transmitter are set to the same channel. If you connected the transmitter to an audio source s headphone jack, reduce the audio source s volume. Change the position of the transmitter. The speakers are placed beyond the transmitter s effective range (approximately 300 feet). Move the speakers closer to the transmitter. Other 900 MHz transmissions are being picked up by the speaker s receiver (possibly from a 900 MHz cordless telephone). Change the transmitter s and the speaker s frequency channel. The speaker s batteries are low. Replace the batteries. 10
