2 fm Page 2 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM INTRODUCTION Your Optimus 900 MHz Lightweight Wireless Stereo Headphones use the 900 MHz band to deliver high-quality sound from an audio source (such as a TV or radio) up to 150 feet away even through walls and floors! The headphone system lets you enjoy sound from your home audio system without being tied down by wires between your audio source and the headphones. You can use the transmitter with an unlimited number of receivers and headphones (sold separately), so users in different parts of your home or office can enjoy the benefits of wireless, full stereo sound at the same time. Your local RadioShack store has a full line of wireless headphones. The system includes a transmitter, stereo headphones, receiver, 1 /8-inch Y adapter cable, stereo audio cable, AC adapter, and 1 /4-inch plug adapter. 3 fm Page 3 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM PREPARATION Before you can use your headphone system, you must find a suitable location for its transmitter, away from any obstructions and within reach of a standard AC outlet. Then make the necessary transmitter connections. IN jack and connect the white plug to the L/AUDIO IN jack. CONNECTING THE TRANSMITTER TO YOUR AUDIO SOURCE Caution: Do not connect the transmitter to the audio source s speaker output. Doing so could damage the transmitter and audio source. Connect the transmitter to your audio source s stereo headphone jack or to separate left and right audio output jacks (if available). If you connect to audio output jacks, you can use the headphone system s volume control to adjust the volume without turning up your audio source. Note: To connect a Y-adapter to a 1 /4- inch headphone jack, attach the supplied 1 /4-inch adapter plug over the 1 /8 plug and complete the connections. To connect the transmitter to your audio source s audio output jacks, connect one end of the supplied stereo audio cable to the transmitter s R/AU- DIO IN and L/AUDIO IN jacks (red plug to R/AUDIO IN and white plug to L/AU- DIO IN). Then plug the other ends into the audio source s audio output jacks (red plug to the right channel, and white plug to the left channel). To connect the transmitter to your audio source s stereo headphone jack, plug the single ( 1 /8-inch) end of the supplied Y adapter cable into the headphone jack and connect the other ends into the supplied stereo audio cable (red plug to red jack and white plug to white jack). Then connect the red plug to the transmitter s R/AUDIO 3

4 fm Page 4 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM CONNECTING THE TRANSMITTER TO POWER To power the transmitter, insert the supplied AC adapter into the DC 18V jack on the back of the transmitter. Then plug the adapter s other end into a standard AC outlet. INSTALLING THE RECEIVER S BATTERIES To power the receiver, follow these steps to install three AA batteries (not supplied). For the best performance and longest life, we recommend alkaline batteries, available at your local RadioShack store. 1. Remove the battery compartment cover by pushing in the tab and sliding the cover down. Cautions: Always disconnect the adapter from the AC outlet before unplugging the barrel plug from the transmitter. The supplied AC adapter supplies 18 volts and delivers at least 150 milliamps. Its center tip is set to positive and its barrel plug correctly fits the transmitter s DC 18V jack. Using an adapter that does not meet these specifications could damage the transmitter or the adapter. 2. Place three batteries inside the compartment, as indicated by the polarity symbols (+ and ) marked inside. 3. Replace the cover. 4

5 fm Page 5 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM When the sound weakens, replace the batteries. Cautions: Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Do not mix old and new batteries, different types of batteries (standard, alkaline, or rechargeable), or rechargeable batteries of different capacities. Never leave dead or weak batteries in the receiver. Dispose of batteries promptly and properly; do not bury or burn them. CONNECTING THE HEADPHONES TO THE RECEIVER To connect the headphones to the receiver, just insert the headphones plug into the jack on the receiver. USING THE BELT CLIP For hands-free carrying, slide the receiver s belt clip over your belt. USING THE CHARGER JACK To recharge the 3.6-volt, 280 ma rechargeable battery used in some headphones (such as the one provided with Cat. No or sold separately as RadioShack Unlimited No ), insert the headphone s plug into the CHARGER jack on the transmitter. The CHARGE indicator lights. 6 fm Page 6 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM OPERATION LISTENING SAFELY To protect your hearing, follow these guidelines when you use headphones. Since the headphones receiver makes a popping noise each time you turn it on or off, always turn on the headphones receiver before putting on the headphones. Always remove them before you turn the receiver off. Set the volume to the lowest setting before you begin listening. After you begin listening, adjust the volume to a comfortable level. Do not listen at extremely high volume levels. Extended highvolume listening can lead to permanent hearing loss. Once you set the volume, do not increase it. Over time, your ears adapt to the volume level, so a volume level that does not cause discomfort might still damage your hearing. USING THE SYSTEM 1. Turn on your audio source. 2. If you connected the transmitter to an audio source s headphone jack (or a jack that is controlled by the audio sources volume control), set the audio source s volume control to the desired level first (about midway), then rotate LEVEL on the transmitter until the indicator at the front of the transmitter flashes. If the indicator does not flash, increase the volume of the source until the indicator flashes. If you connected the transmitter to an audio source s LINE OUTPUT jack (or a jack that is not controlled by the audio source s volume control), rotate LEVEL until the indicator flashes. Note: Some audio sources might not make the indicator flash. For such sources, simply rotate LEVEL all the way to the left. 6

7 fm Page 7 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM 3. Set ON/OFF on the receiver to ON. If you still hear interference, rotate FREQ. ADJUST on the transmitter until the interference is reduced, then rotate TUNING until the audio is free from interference. 7. To turn off the system, take off the headphones, then set ON/OFF on the receiver to OFF. Note: Be sure to turn off the system when you are not using it. 4. Rotate TUNING until ST. (stereo) lights. 5. Put on the headphones and adjust VOLUME to the desired listening level. Note: To adjust the headphones fit, pull down or push up on each end. 6. Adjust TUNING to eliminate interference from other devices. 7

8 fm Page 8 Tuesday, August 10, :50 AM TROUBLESHOOTING If you cannot get sound once you have connected the system: Be sure the receiver s ON/OFF switch is set to ON. Be sure the AC adapter is properly connected. Be sure the audio source is turned on and tuned to an active frequency. If you have connected the transmitter to jacks that are controlled by the audio source s volume control, be sure the control is turned up. Rotate VOLUME on the receiver to increase the volume. Ensure ST. is lit. If not, adjust TUN- ING on the receiver until ST. lights. The receiver s batteries may be too low. Replace the batteries. Change the position of the transmitter. If you still have a problem with the headphone system, contact your local RadioShack store for assistance. 8

The following suggestions will help you care for your system so you can enjoy it for years. Keep the system dry. If it gets wet, wipe it dry immediately. Liquids might contain minerals that can corrode the electronic circuits. Use and store the system only in normal temperature environments. Temperature extremes can shorten the life of electronic devices, damage batteries, and distort or melt plastic parts. Keep the system away from dust and dirt, which can cause premature wear of parts. Handle the system gently and carefully. Dropping any of its components can damage circuit boards and cases and can cause the system to work improperly. Use only fresh batteries of the required size and type. Batteries can leak chemicals that damage your system s electronic parts. Wipe the system with a damp cloth occasionally to keep it looking new. Do not use harsh chemicals, cleaning solvents, or strong detergents to clean the system. Modifying or tampering with the system s internal components can cause a malfunction and might invalidate your system s warranty and void your FCC authorization to operate it. If your system is not performing as it should, take it to your local RadioShack store for assistance. 9

To determine whether your headphone system is causing the interference, turn off your headphone system. If the interference goes away, your headphone system is causing the interference. Try to eliminate the interference by: moving your headphone system away from the receiver connecting your headphone system to an outlet that is on a different electrical circuit from the receiver contacting your local RadioShack store for help Note: Your headphone system is subject to interference from other 900 MHz devices such as wireless headphones, cordless phones, or other wireless speakers that operate on the same frequencies. If you experience interference, try moving the headphone system away from the other devices. 10
