Page 1 of 7 Installing and Configuring Lexia Reading Desktop Software Summary: Learn how to install and configure Lexia Reading desktop software, including Lexia Early Reading, Lexia Primary Reading, and Lexia Strategies for Older Students. Document Audience: District/School Technology Staff, Administrators, and Teachers. Note that parents/guardians may also follow these directions to install Lexia Reading for home use, although some information will not pertain to them. Lexia Reading System Requirements... 1 Downloading Installation Files... 1 Installing Lexia Reading on Windows... 2 Installing Lexia Reading on Macintosh... 5 Configuring Lexia Reading... 6 Lexia Reading System Requirements (Desktop) Lexia Reading student software must be installed and configured on each student machine and not run off a central server due to the large number of graphic and sound files. Lexia provides download instruction and the customer code (required to activate the student software) via an email confirmation when the product is delivered. Component System Requirement Operating System Windows XP (SP 3), 7, 8, 8.1 Mac OS X 10.4 or higher Memory Disk Space Sound Graphics Screen Internet Connection Bandwidth Firewall/Proxy Content-filtering software 256 MB of RAM (or better) 500 MB of hard drive space (or better) Headsets (recommended) or speakers 32 MB accelerated video graphics card (or better) Minimum screen resolution of 800x600 A persistent internet connection is required. Lexia Reading student software uses minimal bandwidth to communicate with the server. Schools that use a firewall/proxy must whitelist access to student.mylexia.com and update.lexialearning.com. Page 2 of 7 Downloading Lexia Reading Installation Files 1. Go to www.lexialearning.com. At the top of the page, click Downloads. 2. Click Agree to accept the license agreement. 3. Click Lexia Reading. 4. Select the version you want to download depending on your locale and operating system. Select Full Download if you are doing a new installation or Update if you are updating a previous installation 5. During the download, if prompted whether to Run or Save, choose Save and select a destination (such as your Desktop). Installing Lexia Reading on Windows 1. Double-click on the downloaded Lexia Reading.exe to start the installation. 2. Click the Run button to launch the installation program. Note: You may see a message saying that the publisher of the software is unknown. This is normal; it is safe to click OK to continue with the install. 3. The Setup Installation wizard displays. Click Next. 4. Read the terms of the license agreement, and click I accept the agreement. If you do not accept the license agreement, the installation will not proceed. Click Next.

Page 3 of 7 (Windows Installation, continued) 5. Lexia Reading will be installed into C:\Program Files\Lexia (or C:\Program Files\Lexia Reading UK) unless you make a change. It is strongly recommended that you do not change the default installation directory. (If you wish to make a change, click the folder icon to select the location.) Click Next. 6. On the Lexia Reading Settings screen, enter your customer code (this was emailed by the Lexia Order Department to the main Lexia contact for you district or school.) Select the configuration options as appropriate. For more information, see Configuring Lexia Reading on page 6. Click Next. Note: The Customer Code in this graphic is for example only.

Page 4 of 7 (Windows Installation, continued) 7. If you selected Use Proxy Server on the previous screen, you are prompted to enter your proxy server information. For more information, see Configuring Lexia Reading on page 6. Click Next. 8. Setup is now ready to install Lexia Reading. Click Next to install. 9. A progress bar displays as the installation proceeds. Lexia Reading will create a program group and desktop shortcuts for the software. When you see a message that installation is complete, you can launch Lexia Reading by leaving the box checked and clicking Finish. 10. To configure the Lexia Reading student software, see Configuring Lexia Reading on page 6. You must configure the installation prior to distributing it to other machines.

See Downloading Installation Files on page 1 for instructions on downloading the Macintosh version of the student software to the machine on which you wish to install Lexia Reading. 2. Double-click the Lexia Reading disk image (.dmg). 3. Read the terms of the license agreement and click Agree. If you do not accept the license agreement, the installation will not proceed. 4. A window opens. If you see another window, you can change the view by selecting the View menu > as Icons. Simply drag and drop the Lexia Reading (or Lexia Reading UK for the international version) icon from the left to the Applications folder on the right of the window. This will install the Lexia Reading student software in the Applications folder.

Page 6 of 7 (Macintosh Installation, continued) 5. Eject the Lexia disk that the system opened when you double-clicking the.dmg file in Step 2. You can eject the disk by looking in the Finder under Devices and clicking the eject icon next to Lexia. 6. To configure the Lexia Reading student software, see Configuring Lexia Reading on page 6. You must configure the installation prior to distributing the installation to other student machines. Configuring Lexia Reading You will need your unique customer code in order to configure the software prior to initial use. Note that you must configure Lexia Reading prior to distributing the installation to other student machines. 1. Double-click the Lexia Reading icon to launch the student software. Note: Proxy users who require a proxy username/password prompt will be required to login to the proxy server immediately after launching Lexia Reading. 2. If Lexia Reading is not yet configured, the setting screen will display automatically. If the screen doesn t display, or if you need to view this screen at a later time to change any of the settings, hold down the A and S keys immediately after launching Lexia Reading. Note: The Customer Code in this graphic is for example only.

Page 7 of 7 (Configuring Lexia Reading, continued) 3. Make changes to the settings as needed and click Save. General Settings: o Customer Code: Enter your customer code into the space provided in the following format: ####-####-####-#### Advanced Settings: o Server URL: This should not be changed (https://student.mylexia.com). o Full Screen (800x600): Select if you want to change the screen resolution of Lexia Reading to 800x600. Otherwise, Lexia Reading will use your default screen resolution and use a black border to hide the desktop. o Hide Password: The default setting is to obscure the student password during entry; select this option to display the password during entry. o Network Request Timeout (Seconds): Leave at 120 seconds unless the student software is displaying timeout message while running on your network. Proxy Settings: Use these settings only if your district or school accesses the Internet through a proxy server. If your school uses a proxy server, you must configure the required proxy settings or you will receive an error when you open Lexia Reading. o Proxy Address (required): IP address of your school proxy server. o Proxy Port (required): Port used to access the proxy server. o Prompt for Proxy Username and Password (optional): Select this option in order to prompt the users for a proxy username and password each time Lexia Reading is launched. o Proxy User (optional): The username requested by the proxy server. o Proxy Password (optional): The password for the username. 4. After you save the configuration settings, you may distribute the software to other student machines.
