MICROSOFT SOFTWARE ASSURANCE (SA) BENEFITS GUIDE Payment Plans The ability to purchase licensing and pay for it over the term of the agreement. Payments are split into thirds. The first payment is due at the time of the order, the others due on the first and second anniversary. New Version Rights Provides rights to new software versions that are released during the term of the agreement. Disaster Recovery (DR) and Cold Recovery For each qualifying server license (i) that is enrolled in SA and (ii) for which a customer has all related Client Access Licenses (CALs) enrolled in SA, the customer will be entitled to a second server license under which it may deploy the same product on a cold back-up server solely for DR purposes during the term of its SA coverage. 24x7 Problem Resolution Support Excludes Developer Edition Servers and MSDN products. Initiated by Web or Phone. Web 24 hour availability but responses during business hours. Available on as needed basis. Phone count on incident balance upon resolution. Incidents awarded based on SA spend. Server/CAL ( 1 incident = $20k ) IW/Client ( 1 incident = $200k ) 1 complimentary incident for server coverage. Phone support during business hours. Includes all invoiced and scheduled billings. Discovery session to identify business value of upgrading Office within the customer s environment. Architecture session to outline technical aspects of the desktop deployment planning. Based on number of engagement days and SA spend. One engagement during enrollment term. Total days available viewable on Microsoft Volume Licensing site (MVLS). Insight is certified as a LAR, which qualifies them to provide these services. Employee Purchase Program Allows Microsoft products to be available for employee purchase at significant savings. All orders placed with Microsoft are sent directly through a password-protected ecommerce site. Can purchase up to three units of any product for personal or family use. Home Use Program Users of qualifying Office application products are eligible to purchase single licenses of the corresponding HUP software for installation and use on a home PC. Eligibility ends with SA coverage or employment. Employee pays a small fulfillment cost of approximately $30 in order to receive media from Microsoft site. Available through subscription kit that is activated on MVLS. Training Vouchers Based on the number of days covered by Office and Windows OS licenses. Can be used through a Microsoft Certified Partner with a Competency in Learning Solutions (CPLS). Training days and associated vouchers are assigned to designated individuals by the SA Benefit Administrator within the MVLS site. Available for any course listed in the SA voucher program (including server courses). elearning Qualifying customers are eligible for: SA Desktop elearning: The number of desktops on which the elearning courses can be installed or accessed is limited to the number of qualifying SA application or SA system licenses purchased. CD delivery, downloadable SCROM compliant content or access to hosted elearning courses. SA Server elearning: The number of users who can access elearning server courses is limited to the number of qualifying SA server licenses purchased. CAL licenses do not qualify. Available in a hosted capacity as of June, 2006. Content includes virtual labs that provide a live environment for IT professionals to practice without any risk to the company network. SA Exchange Server Applications Provides advanced server-side message filtering designed to combat the influx of unsolicited commercial email, also known as spam or junk e-mail. This will help reduce the volume of junk e-mails that a user receives. Windows Pre-installation Environment (PE) Allows IT staff to build custom solutions that speed deployment through automation. Minimal version of the OS that replaces DOS and can run Windows setup, scripts and imaging applications. SUBSYSTEM FOR UNI-BASED APPLICATIONS (SUA) Provides ability to run UNI system-based applications and scripts on Windows Vista Enterprise through platform services. No emulation layers mean that it is a completely native subsystem, similar to the traditional Windows subsystem, which resides on top of the kernel. Eases interoperability between Windows and UNI/Linux environments and UNI-based enterprise applications porting to the Win platform. DESKTOP OPTIMIZATION PACK Dynamic desktop solution available to SA customers as an add-on subscription license. Reduces application deployment costs, enables delivery of application as services and allows for better management and control of enterprise desktop environments. Helps reduce the total cost of ownership of the entire Windows desktop lifecycle by accelerating OS and application management, enhancing IT responsiveness and improving end-user uptime. Released in January, 2007 with SoftGrid product. Others are planned for release. Virtual PC Express Allows users to run two operating systems on a single computer through a virtual machine: while the latest OS version runs as a host, the other OS runs as a guest. Addresses the need for certain users to temporarily maintain mission-critical legacy applications that might be working well with an older OS version while the IT department is migrating to the new OS. Windows Fundamentals for Legacy PCs For each Win Pro license covered with SA, customers are eligible to run this in place of their licensed copies of Windows during the term of SA coverage. Provides a smaller footprint Win-based OS solution designed for customers with Legacy PCs that provides the same security and manageability as Win P Pro SP2 while providing a smooth migration path to the latest hardware and OS. TechNet Plus User IDs provided based on server, application and system licenses purchased with SA Each user ID entitles an individual to register and obtain access to the subscriber-only online services site, which includes, but is not limited to: Online Concierge Chat, Managed Newsgroups and other premium content. TechNet Plus Subscription Media Provides IT professionals with access to TechNet Plus subscription content that includes the Microsoft Knowledge Base, technical training, downloads, security patches, service packs and how-to articles. Additional benefits include: Full-version software licensed for evaluation purposes including OS, servers and Office system software. Beta software that includes pre-release versions of Microsoft software. Two (2) complimentary technical support incidents per year and a 20% discount on additional phone support incidents purchased. Beta software Technical support incidents and discounts Managed Newsgroup, online concierge and other premium services available through the TechNet Plus Subscriber-Only Website. Extended HotFix Support Benefit for older software versions that have transitioned from Mainstream to Extended Support. Annual fees that are normally charged as part of an Extended Support contract are waived. No additional sign-up within a 90 day period of product s transition to Extended Support required. Customers are still responsible for the fees for individual hot fixes. Premier or Essential Support agreement is a prerequisite for eligibility.
