6 7 Large-scale Desalination Sembcorp develops, owns and operates energy efficient large-scale integrated power and desalination plants, which use various seawater desalination technologies including multi-stage flash and reverse osmosis. Meeting Pressing Water Needs in the Middle East n With capacity of 893 megawatts and 591,800 cubic metres per day (130 million imperial gallons per day), our Fujairah 1 Independent Water and Power Plant, is one of the world s largest operating hybrid desalination plants. n In Oman, our Salalah Independent Water and Power Plant, with capacity of 489 megawatts and 69,000 cubic metres per day (15 million imperial gallons per day) is the largest and most energy efficient power and water plant in the Governorate of Dhofar. Municipal Water and Wastewater Treatment Sembcorp provides the full range of municipal water treatment, supply and distribution services as well as wastewater treatment under a range of contractual arrangements including Build-Own-Operate-Transfer (BOOT) schemes, concessions and privatisation contracts. Track Record in Applying Advanced Technologies Anaerobic Wastewater Treatment Systems Membrane Bioreactor Technology Application of MBR technology in Singapore Advanced Membrane Systems Sembcorp is the first company to have successfully applied Membrane Bioreactor (MBR) technology for the treatment of high salinity industrial wastewater in Singapore. Advantages of MBR: n Produces consistently good quality effluent n Uses less chemicals and energy n Plant footprint can be reduced by up to about 25% compared to conventional aerobic systems n Reduction of sludge generation Sembcorp pioneered the commercial reclamation of treated industrial and municipal wastewater effluent into high purity reclaimed water in Singapore using advanced membrane systems such as microfiltration and reverse osmosis. Since 1999, Sembcorp has been applying anaerobic wastewater treatment systems and has successfully applied the Expanded Granular Sludge Bed (EGSB) technology in our plants in Singapore and China.
