ALLSPOT supports graphical LCD display with readable and complete site survey information, such as Signal Strength, Security and Encryption, Operation Channel, Radio Band and SSID. User can also choose to find specific Hotspot like dedicated network or Free-spot. 1. SSID: Display the SSID of the wireless network, if SSID length is longer than 16 characters, it will scroll horizontally. 2. Channel: Indicate the in use channel number of the wireless network 3. Entry: Display the current entry of the scanned hotspot sites. Totally up to 16 entries can be displayed at a time. 4. Power: Indicate the battery life status. Battery low Battery full At adapter mode, or charging the battery through USB port 5. Scan mode: There are 3 scan modes (S, F and D mode). Hold Seek button to toggle among scan modes. After switching to the desired scan mode, press Seek button again to do site survey. [S] Mode: Scan result is ranked in the order of signal strength. [F] Mode: Scan result only lists free spots (network without security) with the ranking of signal strength. 5
[D] Mode: Display the site survey result of a dedicated hotspot site. Use Next button to select the desired entry that you want to visit, then hold Seek button to enter [D] mode. Press Seek button once again to periodically do site survey automatically. This scan mode is useful to lock on a network to see its signal strength at different place. 6. Security: Indicates security setting of the wireless network. WEP security is enabled WPA security is enabled Wireless security is disabled (no security) 7. Signal: Indicates the signal strength and the radio band (802.11a/b/g) of wireless network. There are 5 levels of signal strength. 802.11a mode at 5 GHz band 802.11g mode at 2.4 GHz band 6

Installation Requirements Before installation, make sure you have a computer with the following: Pentium III 300MHz or above A minimum of 20 MB available hard disk space 64MB RAM (128MB Recommended) A CD-ROM drive An USB slot Windows XP/2000/ME/98 SE 7
Windows 98 SE users may need the Windows 98 SE CD for installation 1-2. Utility and Hardware Installation The installation procedures are similar for all supported Windows versions. Windows XP screen shots are shown unless otherwise specified. DO NOT plug the ALLSPOT at this point! The ALLSPOT Wireless Client Utility should be installed first. 1. Insert the support CD into the CD-ROM drive on your computer. The installation program will automatically run. If it does not, locate and doubleclick setup.exe on the support CD. 2. Click Install Utility to start installation. The 802.11 Wireless Client Utility and driver will be automatically installed. 3. A welcome screen displays. Click Next. 8
4. Click Next to accept the default file location or click Browse to select an alternate folder. 5. Click Finish to complete the installation. 6. After installation is completed, an 802.11 Wireless Client Utility icon will appear in your system tray. 7. Locate an available USB slot on the computer. 8. With the USB connector facing the slot and the LCD side facing up, plug the ALLSPOT into the slot. 9. Double click the 802.11 Wireless Client Utility icon to configure your wireless adapter. If the Wireless Client Utility icon displays, the ALLSPOT is installed properly. Refer to the User s Guide to configure the ALLSPOT. 9
