September 2013-actually. President of Italian Chapter of European Society of Biomechanics (ESB-ITA) [http://www.esb-ita.it]. 3 Scientific activity Main research topics a. Numerical simulation of minimally-invasive cardiovascular devices: using the computational mechanics methods (e.g. finite element method), the research aims to define a computational framework able to support the pre-operative planning of minimally-invasive interventions like stenting. b. Development of informatic tools for medical imaging analysis (TAC, MRI): starting from medical images currently used in the clinical practice, the research aims to develop informatic tools to generate automatically 3D geometrical models to support both clinical analysis and mesh generation for computational mechanics analysis. c. Experimental set-up for in-vitro tests of endovascular devices: exploiting rapid-prototyping, advanced medical imaging, and mock circulatory systems, the research aims at evaluate the performance of (endo-)grafts under realistic working conditions (see http://www.unipv.it/ compmech/beta-lab.html). Such measurements can be exploited to validate the corresponding numerical simulations. d. Isogeometric analysis for biomechanics: exploiting basis function commonly adopted in CAD systems (Non-Uniform Rational B-Splines), isogeometric analysis represents a valuable counterpart to classical finite element analysis, providing high accuracy and less computational cost. The research activity aims at using such advantages with the field of computational biomechanics. 2
