INDUSTRIAL KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE IN THE INTERNATIONAL COAL MARKET OCEAN FREIGHT TO CHILE IMPORT TERMINALS WITH STOCKPILING AND PROCESSING CAPACITY (SCREENING, BLENDING) INLAND TRANSPORT (RAIL & TRUCK), RAIL- TRUCK TRANSFER CENTERS OPERATION OF OUR CLIENTS COAL YARDS AND RELATED LOGISTICS SERVICES PROJECTS & CONSULTANCY
IMPORTED COAL FOR THE INDUSTRY We import coal because Chilean production is small, unreliable and low quality. Our imported coals are high energy, high quality and low sulfur, representing a cost effective and reliable alternative to expensive and natural gas, without the volatility of oil prices and the supply interruptions of Argentine gas. Import volumes are 200 to 300 thousand metric tons per year, mainly from Australia, Colombia, and Indonesia. We supply the plants of our own Steam Division, plus an array of industrial coal users, such as cement plants, agribusiness, food industry, fish industry, brick and ceramics manufacture, etc.
COAL IMPORT AND STOCKPILING TERMINALS Catamutun operates two import terminals, located at the ports of Ventanas and Penco. We are able to unload vessels up to 55 thousand metric tons capacity, at unloading speeds of 8 to 15 thousand tons per day. Stockpile capacity is 150 thousand metric tons per terminal.
SCREENING AND SIZING WITH STATE OF THE ART EQUIPMENT At both terminals we use state of the art screens that use polyurethane screening mats to produce accurately sized coals efficiently. This allows us to produce various sized coals that are required for use on industrial grate stokers.
LOGISTICS AND HANDLING Delivery of the coal right to our clients coal yards: we manage transportation via railroad and trucks, and count with intermediate distribution centers where the coal is trans-loaded from railcars to trucks and where we keep safety stocks close to the end users to guarantee a timely and uninterrupted supply. One of these centers, located in La Unión, serves our southernmost clients as well as our Steam Division plants. It allows a high level of reliability for this area located far from the import terminals that is often affected by transportation interruptions caused by extreme weather.
LOGISTICS AND HANDLING Amongst our services is the management of our clients stock yards of coal and other bulk materials, including feeding coal to the boilers and taking care of ash. In other words, we offer a complete and comprehensive service, including all aspects related to the use of coal as a fuel, relieving our customers of the burden of having to deal with this themselves, allowing them to focus on their core processes. Our Steam Coal Division serves industrial customers located from La Serena in the north to Chiloé in the south, clients that use boilers with capacities of 5 to 50 tons per hour of steam, low to high pressure.
QUALITY AND RELIABILITY OF SUPPLY Our coals are of the highest quality available internationally, allowing to operate efficiently and at lower cost than using oil or gas, without the volatility of oil prices and supply interruptions Argentine natural gas, with low emissions levels that comply with current norms and regulations. TECHNICAL AND ECONOMICAL CONSULTANCY AND PROJECTS Catamutun is proud to count with a high level team of professionals, well trained and experienced in all aspects involved in the use and logistics of coal. We provide advise and support to our customers in matters related to handling and use of coal, for existing coal fired installations as well as new projects, including all involved aspects such as transportation and stockpiling, handling, boilers and equipment, projects and evaluations, optimization, training, efficient operation, emissions control and disposing of ash.
INDUSTRIAL STEAM DIVISION ENGINEERING AND CONSTRUCTION OF BOILER PLANTS OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE EFFICIENT GENERATION AND USE OF STEAM ALTERNATIVE FUELS ASH HANDLING AND DISPOSAL Our Steam Division designs, builds and operates boiler plants that produce steam for sale to industrial clients who prefer to outsource this part of their processes to a specialist like CCSA instead of doing it themselves. The boiler plants are owned by CCSA and located inside our clients premises. As fuel we use mainly coal and this is one of our main strengths. Not only is coal a reliable, cost competitive fuel of growing use worldwide, but we rely on our own supply, through CCSA s Steam Division. But we also generate with other fuels such as oil, biomass and combustible waste. Generation using coal allows for lower costs per ton of steam as compared to oil and gas, without the volatility of oil prices and the unreliability of Argentine natural gas.
STEAM DIVISION ENGINEERING AND SET UP The design and set up of boilers and related equipment is done with our own engineering and maintenance resources. OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE Operation and preventive maintenance of our boiler plants are part of our services.
PROJECTS We develop industrial thermal plant projects in general, including coal logistics and handling, emission control, boilers and ancillary equipment, steam distribution grids, control systems and all other aspects related to efficient generation and use of steam. ASH HANDLING AND DISPOSAL We take care of the handling an disposal of the ash generated by the combustion of coal. RELIABLE STEAM SUPPLY The security of our own coal supply through CCSA s Coal Division, together with many years of experience in several steam plants, plus a professional and experienced team, allow us to guarantee a reliable and effective service, at lower costs compared to oil and gas.
