HS100 vs. Biosystems A15 Advantage HumaStar Explanation The main advantages of HumaStar 100 are the wash station and reagent refrigeration. The wash station saves money and time. Money: A15 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Time: On A15 manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test was run. Reagent refrigeration leads to reliable results, longer on-board and calibration stability. On A15 the user either has to place the reagent in the refrigerator after every run, but he will loose time doing this. If he leaves the reagent on the instrument he will waste reagent when it gets warm and he has to throw it away - he is loosing money. A15 has flexible tray for reagents and samples. However the total number of samples and reagents that the user can place on the instrument is higher on HumaStar. UPS and barcode scanner are included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. Equivalent Throughput: A15 has a maximum throughput which is 150 t/h, whereas HumaStar 100 can only reach a maximum of 100 t/h. But the throughput of HumaStar 100 is constant for 1- and 2-shot methods. In a typical mix A15 will only reach 95 t/h. => The throughput is equivalent on both instruments. Biosystems and Human both offer instruments, reagents, and validated methods out of one hand. Advantage A15 Biosystems sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Because Human has also preinstalled and validated methods, Cobas C111 does not have an advantage in that respect. There are three other massive advantages of HumaStar: -On HumaStar the user can place up to 60 samples, whereas only 8 samples can be placed on Cobas C111. This leads to a much a higher walk-away time on HumaStar. -The HumaStar has a wash station, which is much more cost and time efficient than disposable cuvettes on Cobas C111 (for explanation also see Biosystems A15). -HumaStar 100 and 200 are much faster than Cobas C111. The throughput of Cobas is only 60 t/h and much closer to HumaStar 80 than HumaStar 100 or 200. The possibility of automation of the laboratory workflow is equivalent on both instruments. Both instruments offers pre-installed and validated methods, which assure reliable results. Roche reagents are ready to use in prefilled and barcode labeled bottles. Handling of reagent bottles and loading of STAT is easier. Throughput of C311 is higher and it can load more reagents (parameters) at the same time. The reputation of Roche is very good. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Because Human has also preinstalled and validated methods, Pentra does not have an advantage in that respect. There are two other advantages of HumaStar: -On HumaStar the user can place up to 60 samples, whereas only 15 samples can be placed on Pentra. This leads to a much a higher walk-away time on HumaStar. -The HumaStar has a wash station, which is much more cost and time efficient than disposable cuvettes on Pentra (for explanation also see Biosystems A15). HumaStar 100 and Pentra both have a constant throughput which is approximately equivalent. Reagent cooling, primary tubes, sample barcode reader, and a shock detector are also present on both instruments. Horiba offers reagents that are ready to use in prefilled and barcode labeled bottles. Handling of reagent bottles is easier. PC and monitor are integrated and do not need to be purchased separately. HS100 vs. Horiba Pentra C200 Customer claims Pentra has an separate mixing unit. It should be faster. Because Pentra has disposable cuvettes, there is no carry over in the cuvettes. HumaStar 100/200 have washable cuvettes, which will lead to carry over. Possible reply! Pentra and HS100 both work with a fixed cycle. Thus having a fixed throughput for 1- and 2- shot reagents. HumaStar 100 has a 36 sec. cycle: 1 hour/36 sec. = 100 t/h Pentra C 200 has a 40 sec. cycle: 1 hour/40 sec. = 90 t/h => HS100 is even slightly faster than Pentra C200 The washing procedure of HumaStar 100/200 is so sophisticated that carry over is comparable to disposable cuvettes. There are several measures to assure this: 8- step washing of every single cuvette Normal Systemic and a Special Wash solution are connected to the instrument (most other instrument only have one type of wash solution). A third wash solution Cuvette Clean can be programmed in the methods settings if necessary (e.g. turbidimetry). The intensity of the washing can be increased from 1 (normal) to 4 (extended) in the method settings if necessary. The needle is washed internally and externally. Incompatibilities can be defined in the method settings. This will prevent the consecutive execution of parameters that could influence each other in one cuvette. => In practice carry over is comparable on HumaStar and Pentra. HumaStar has the advantage of lower consumable cost (cuvettes). Page 62

Time: manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test has been run in a cuvette. -HumaStar 100 is much faster than BS-120. The max. throughput of BS-120 is 100 t/h, but the typical throughput will only be at approx. 60 t/h, because it is not constant for 1- and 2-shot methods. -On HumaStar the user can place up to 60 samples, whereas only 8 samples can be placed on BS- 120. This leads to a much a higher walk-away time on HumaStar. -HumaStar is made in Europe. -HumaStar has pre-installed and validated methods. Users can be sure about the results. On BS- 120 lots of time needs to be spend to reach a precision and performance of parameters as we have on HumaStar 100. Sometimes it will be impossible to reach the performance of HumaStar, because Human has the possibility to adapt the hardware and the software of the instrument to match the reagents. The user in the laboratory does not have this possibility. UPS and barcode scanner are included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. The modern user software of HumaStar is easier to use and offers more features than Mindray. Page 65

DiaSys sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument and are recognized by an internal barcode reader. On respons 910 user can place up to 30 different parameters, each of them can use up to two reagents. On HumaStar the user can place 30 different bottles. HS200 vs. DiaSys respons 920 Advantage HumaStar Explanation HumaStar 200 is an open instruments. The user of HumaStar is not limited in the reagents and methods he wants to use on the instrument. Users might be limited using respons 920, if they want to measure parameters that are not available from Diasys or reagents cannot be supplied on time. Because Human has also pre-installed and validated methods for its Multi Purpose Reagents, respons does not have an advantage in that respect. User can place 60 samples on HumaStar at the same time. On respons 920 user can only place half of that (30 samples), making HumaStar 200 more suitable if the laboratory has a high number of samples per day. HumaStar 200 is slightly smaller and its weight is only half the weight of respons 920. The water consumption of HumaStar 200 is much lower (< 2 l/h) than the water consumption of respons 920 (< 7.5 l/h) Page 73

Human and DiaSys both supply instrument and validated reagents out of one hand. Thus the user can be sure, to get reliable results. Both instruments have a cuvette wash station and reagent cooling. Both instruments are of European origin, thus having a good reputation in the market. DiaSys sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument and are recognized by an internal barcode reader. On respons 910 user can place up to 30 different parameters, each of them can use up to two reagents. On HumaStar the user can place 30 different bottles. HS200 vs. Biosystems A25 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage A25 Explanation The main advantages of HumaStar 200 is the wash station. The wash station saves money and time. Money: A25 has consumable cost for disposable cuvettes. HumaStar can run 30.000 tests with only 80 cuvettes. Time: manual changing of cuvettes is necessary after a test has been run in a cuvette. UPS and barcode scanner are included in the standard offer of HumaStar at no extra cost. The modern user software of HumaStar is easier to use and more intuitive (see screen shots on next slide). Biosystems and Human both offer instruments, reagents, and validated methods out of one hand. Number of samples and reagents are approximately equivalent. On HumaStar you can place primary tubes up to 16 mm, on A25 you can place primary tubes up to 15 mm. Biosystems sells the reagent in bottles that can be placed directly on the instrument. Throughput of A25 is 20% higher than HumaStar 200. However, in routine use this difference will not be noticed by the user. Page 77

HS200 vs. FUJIFILM NX 500 Advantage HumaStar Equivalent Advantage NX 500 Explanation -The HumaStar is an instrument suited for a central or hospital laboratory. It can load and run up to 60 samples at once. NX 500 can only run one sample at a time. NX 500 is a designated POCT instrument for physician s offices or similar operation areas which run only very few samples. HumaStar also has an internal sample barcode reader, NX 500 only has an optional handheld scanner. -Price per test is much lower on HumaStar than on NX 500. NX 500 is optimized for easy operation, not for low cost or higher throughput. On NX 500 disposable consumables are used for plasma separation and pipetting (-> waste and cost). -HumaStar comes with more pre-installed parameters than NX 500. Some parameters, such as HbA1c are not available on NX 500. HumaStar is also an open system, you can use most clinical chemistry reagents that are available on the market.
