PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS / CHECKLIST Complete prerequisite course requirements for cohort eligibility (required to become eligible for limited enrollment courses) See curriculum sheet: BIO 1107 Human Biology with a grade of C or better within the last five (5) years. ALH 1101 Allied Health with a grade of C or better within the last five (5) years. OTA 1101 Introduction to OTA with a grace of C or better within the last five (5) years. Take TEAS Test.(LHS prerequisite) Maintain a minimum of 2.5 cumulative GPA. Submit Statement of Interest every year prior to December to remain on the wait list if you have qualied for and are waiting to be assigned to a cohort.
OTA Process for Entry into OTA Cohorts and Limited Enrollment Courses Thank you for your interest in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program (OTA). The following is the process for entry into OTA cohorts and limited enrollment courses. A maximum of thirty (30) students per year may begin the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program s limited enrollment courses. The following selection procedure will be used: 1. Students who have successfully completed the requirements for cohort eligibility (i.e., qualify to begin to limited enrollment courses) will be placed on the eligibility waiting list. 2. The eligibility date will be determined by the date the student completed the requirements for limited enrollment courses. 3. For regular admissions, students that complete their requirements on the same date will be ranked according to GPA. (This does not apply to accelerated admissions students) 4. Transcripts of students on the eligibility waiting list will be reviewed for regular selection at the end of Fall Semester. Fifteen (15) students and two alternates will be chosen and notified in January for the upcoming Fall. 5. Transcripts will be reviewed for Accelerated Admissions for Academic Achievement (AAAA) at the end of Spring Semester. (See Accelerated Admissions attachment.) Fifteen (15) applicants and two alternates will be selected based on the AAAA. Guidelines and notified in June for the upcoming Fall. 6. A student is not eligible for enrollment to the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program if the student has demonstrated unethical behavior that violates the Occupational Therapy Code of Ethics. 7. There are currently more eligible students than there are positions in the cohort on an annual basis. Students can expect a delay starting the limited enrollment courses after eligibility has been achieved. 8. Eligibility requirements for entry to limited enrollment courses periodically change. It is the responsibility of the student to maintain contact with the OTA office to remain current on the requirements. 9. If a student accepts a position into the OTA cohort and limited enrollment courses additional paperwork is required. The student will submit the following documentation: personal health history, immunizations, CPR and criminal background check. An enrollment package with forms and details will be supplied. 10. If a position as an alternate is offered, the student has the option to accept the position as an alternate or accept a position for the following academic year. The student is strongly advised to complete all of the enrollment paperwork.
Accelerated Admission for Academic Achievement (AAAA) as Entry into OTA Cohort and Limited Enrollment Courses 1. Criteria: a. Must have a minimum GPA of 3.0. b. The following courses must have been completed with a minimum of a C within the past 5 years. ALH 1101 Introduction to Health Care Delivery BIO 1107 Human Biology OTA 1101 Introduction to OTA c. Complete the TEAS d. Current Letter of Interest. 2. Letter of Interest: Anyone with a current Letter of Interest on file for the OTA program and who has completed criteria for Accelerated Admissions and entry into the OTA cohort and limited enrollment courses will be assessed using the Accelerated Admission Assessment. 3. Students will be sorted by the total points achieved and those with the most points will be offered a position in the cohort and limited enrollment courses in June for the upcoming Fall term. 4. It is the student s responsibility to provide documentation for Section IV: Knowledge of the Healthcare System on company letterhead signed by the professional the student reports to. The documentation is due by March 31 of each year. 5. No carryover of student Admission Assessment points from the previous year will be used except for Section IV. 6. Students offered a position in an OTA cohort and limited enrollment courses must respond to the selection letter by the deadline indicated to assure a cohort start date. a. Please keep contact information up to date through Registration and Student Records Office, and check your SCC college transcript to make sure it is accurate. If the student is contacted via mail or phone listed in the college database, and it is incorrect, no further attempt will be made to contact the student.
