Riverwood International Charter School Riverwood is a comprehensive high school and the site of Fulton County s International Studies Magnet Program. This prestigious college preparatory institution has a diverse, talented student body and faculty. One of the unique features of this school, where 90% of the students go on to major colleges and universities, is the level of opportunity for parents to be actively involved in their children s education. In addition, our students are regularly awarded Georgia HOPE Scholarships and rank among the highest achievers in the nation on the SAT. Riverwood International Charter School was recognized by Newsweek magazine as the #1 public high school in Fulton County, #2 in the state of Georgia and #148 in the nation for 2010, based on the number of AP and IB exams given. Riverwood is the only Fulton County school offering both the International Baccalaureate Middle Years and Diploma Programs. Charter Admission According to admission policy outlined in Riverwood s Charter, all high school aged students residing in Riverwood s primary attendance zone are admitted to the charter automatically. High school aged students residing in the Fulton County School District but outside the Riverwood attendance zone are also eligible to apply to the charter. In addition, high school aged students residing outside of the Fulton County School District are eligible to apply and upon admission will be required to reimburse the district for the costs of their education at Riverwood using the state approved reimbursement formula. Riverwood s transparent acceptance process will comply with the Riverwood Governance Council s admission policy and enrollment targets. Depending on enrollment levels, the admission process may be adjusted and/or a random lottery process may be used. Registration Upon admission into Riverwood, students not currently attending our feeder school, Ridgeview Charter School, will need to supply the following documents to complete registration: Two proofs of residency (utility bill, rental agreement, etc.) Notarized affidavit of residence Student's social security card Copy of birth certificate Immunization records Georgia Eye, Ear, Dental Form Proof of guardianship or legal custodial documentation Name, address, and telephone number of previous school Copy of academic records from previous school including standardized test scores and transcript Ridgeview Charter School will send most necessary registration documentation for current Ridgeview students. International Studies Magnet Program Riverwood is proud to host Fulton County s only International Studies Magnet Program. With our diverse population and proximity to cultural and academic resources, we are uniquely suited to prepare our students as global citizens. All students admitted to the charter are eligible to apply to the International Studies Magnet Program. Given the interest in this program and for planning purposes, we request students indicate their interest in participating in the program at the time of charter application submission. Admission to the Charter is a prerequisite for acceptance into the International Studies Magnet Program. The International Studies Magnet program is divided into two paths of study: Global Studies: Allows students to become familiar with the cultural, geographical and political diversity of the world s many cultures, in contemporary as well as historical terms. Magnet Seal requires completion of Georgia graduation requirements and additional coursework in Global Studies and World Language International Baccalaureate Diploma or Certificate: Allows students an opportunity to earn an IB diploma recognized by colleges and universities throughout the world through completion of the full diploma program. Students are also able to take IB courses through participation in certificate courses. 9 th /10 th grade Global Studies curriculum with honors/ap coursework and completion of the MYP Personal Project in the 10 th grade Apply to IB diploma program in spring semester of 10 th grade Begin IB coursework in 11 th grade In addition to fulfilling the minimum requirements listed above for the International Studies Magnet Program, magnet students must also fulfill college preparatory requirements in mathematics, science, and health/physical education, maintain grades of 80 or better in the magnet core courses of language arts, global studies, and world language, and maintain passing grades of 70 or better in all other courses. These requirements are common to both paths of study. Program Registration Upon acceptance into the magnet program, students will need to supply the following documents to complete magnet registration: Evidence of admission to the charter school and a letter of acceptance for the magnet program Official transcripts Copies of standardized test scores (Iowa Test of Basic Skills, Georgia CRCT, Georgia Endof-Course tests, or nationally-normed standardized test scores). Copies of Special Educational Services documentation, including Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or 504 Plan Any gifted program eligibility documents

Due to our enrollment projections for the 2013/2014 academic year, no applications will be accepted from students who reside outside of the Fulton County School System with the exception of those students who have a sibling currently attending Riverwood. A Memorandum of Understanding between Fulton County Schools and the student s home school district must also be in place for those siblings who wish to apply. (contact Ms. Herbert with questions) Procedures: Submit a completed charter application no later than the absolute deadline of January 31, 2013. Magnet Program Eligibility and Procedures: Students accepted through the charter process will be eligible to apply to the magnet program. Both charter and magnet boxes should be checked on the application and additional documents submitted. Bus Transportation: Students residing outside the Riverwood attendance zone will not have access to the Fulton County School System transportation services. The student will be responsible for transportation to and from school. Siblings: Siblings of current charter students will be given priority placement. Application Deadline: Applications must be postmarked no later than the absolute deadline of January 31, 2013. Notification: Charter acceptance notifications will be mailed beginning the week of February 25, 2013. INTERNATIONAL STUDIES MAGNET PROGRAM Eligibility: All students accepted to the charter school are eligible to apply for admission to the magnet program. Admission to the magnet program is based on fulfillment of requirements listed below and does not affect admission into the charter school. Both charter and magnet boxes should be checked on the application and additional documents submitted. Requirements: Student must have an 80 or better in each of the core classes of English, Global Studies,and World Language and an overall average of 80 or better in all other classes with no failing grades. Procedures: Submit a completed application, essay (see topic below), and transcript no later than the absolute deadline of January 31, 2013 Students must attach a copy of their current transcript or contact their school counselor to arrange for a copy of the transcript to be sent to the Riverwood Counseling Center. This information is collected as a means to efficiently plan for the needs of incoming students and does not impact eligibility to attend the charter school. Essay topic: Explain how attending Riverwood International Charter School will promote lifelong learning. Bus Transportation: Students accepted into the magnet program after charter admission, residing in the Fulton County School District but outside the Riverwood attendance zone, will be eligible for Fulton County bus transportation to and from their home Fulton County high school. Students accepted into the magnet program after charter admission, residing outside the Fulton County School District, will not have access to the Fulton County School transportation services and will be responsible for transportation to and from school.
