i devolo G3-PLC Modem 500k Powerline technology for efficient communication on smart grids. Central power plant Combined heat and power (CHP) Solar field i Micro turbines i i Wind turbines Storage Fuel cells High-performance, IP-based data transmission via Access Powerline Gross data rate up to 240 kbps Optimum real-world network coverage without adding repeaters

A solution developed in the field. With the G3-PLC 500k modem, devolo introduces an efficient solution for IP-based data communication over the smart grid. Developed based on real-world conditions, this is one of the most powerful Powerline platforms for connecting consumers and suppliers and for applications within the low-voltage network. Technical data Ethernet via G3-PLC functionality Transmission of any IPv4/IPv6 packages Gross data rate up to 240 kbps, corresponding for example to 80 kbps for TCP/IP data transmission Conforms to G3-PLC (ITU-T G.9903) Operating frequency: 150 khz to 500 khz OFDM modulation Dynamic routing mechanism supports mesh networking and the automatic selection of the optimum transmission path Automatic Repeat Request (ARQ) improves error detection and data reliability Dynamic connection adaptation to select the optimum data rate based on the channel conditions Operating temperature range: -25 C to +55 C Connection to 230V or 400V AC Single or 3-phase coupling CE marking Field development of an efficient communication solution on the smart grid. Start today with the standard of tomorrow. The benefits of G3-PLC speak for themselves. Efficiency and affordability combine with long range and excellent data transmission. All benefits at a glance: Optimum range by means of low frequency band The required bandwidth achieved for smart grid applications Capacity reserves for future demands Technology based on "coverage before bandwidth" principle Developed in accordance with international, open ITU standard ITU-T G.9903 Already successfully used in France and the Netherlands (ERDF, Enexis) Solution available from several manufacturers

Smart metering systems demand smart solutions. According to the report, Cost-benefit analysis for the comprehensive use of smart metering systems, 12 million intelligent metering systems should be contributing to an efficient smart grid in Germany by 2022. Communication over the smart grid is a Herculean task. It is a chal lenge that can only be met with tried-and-tested solutions. With over 70 deve lo pers at the Aachen location, we, devolo AG, specialists in Power line communications (PLC), have been developing technology that has already proved successful in a large variety of areas in all of Europe. Our co-operative relationships with major energy providers, such as Vattenfall, have already demonstrated the impressive performance of G3-PLC modems. Tried-and-tested solution from the Powerline specialist. We know your high demands: Secure and stable system availability Reliability due to the long service life of every component Long-term and sustainable deployment options Efficient implementation, even in rural areas Excellent building penetration High level of security against unauthorised access Transfer rate with capacity reserves for future applications As a Powerline specialist, devolo is a member of all international committees including the G3-PLC Alliance, the IEEE Association, the HomePlug Alliance, the EEbus Initiative, and the Wi-Fi Alliance. The significance of this for you: international standards are the driving force behind your solutions, while a high level of compatibility is ensured. Meeting international standards. Distribution station

All Powerline is not the same. Years of research and collaborative development with renowned partners from the energy sector have made devolo Access PLC technology the best solution for facing the challenges of the smart grid. There are three main PLC transmission ranges: Frequency band from 3 khz to 150 khz: CENELEC band + already available as EMC standard + separate frequency band for energy supply company and private use - low data rate via low frequency spectrum and poor transmission channels - interaction with other devices, such as inverters and capacitive switches Frequency band from 150 khz to 500 khz: G3-PLC + all EMC tests successfully passed + long range: longest transmission distance 1.7 km (measured in field tests; limited by infrastructure) + significantly high data rate compared to CENELEC band Frequency band of 1.6 MHz and greater: in-house PLC + High data rates - Range ideal for in-house transmission, insufficient in the access area thus the need for repeaters Range For an efficient Access Powerline connection, devolo uses the transmission bandwidth between 150 khz and 500 khz. This is the only range in which the benefits of Powerline can come together, such as long range and ideal transfer rates for today's smart grid applications, with sufficient capacity reserves for tomorrow's network. back-end system In the application of Access PLC for data communication in smart metering systems, the households connected to a distribution station are typically combined into one communication cluster. Communication is transmitted using PLC from the households via the low-voltage distribution network to the next distribution station or to one or more separate and suitable transfer points. From there, media transfer takes place based on broadband uplink technology. Access PLC is a classic technology for the last mile and is well-suited for this area. By configuring parallel communication clusters, it is scalable to any extent for one network segment.

Extensive field tests document the benefits. Together with Vattenfall, devolo has field tested its G3-PLC technology extensively. The results were convincing for range, bandwidth and electromagnetic compatibility (EMC). In a series of various field tests, Vattenfall Europe Metering GmbH tested the devolo G3-PLC 500k modem as a prototype. Test scenarios with various levels of complexity were applied to substantiate absolute real-world suitability. All tests were based on comparable set-ups consisting of a devolo G3- PLC modem, a data generator to simulate real-world IP data traffic, and UMTS access as a control entity. The following aspects were observed: Evaluation of the Access PLC technology, general connection tests Measurement of data packet round-trip times Determination of bandwidth at the physical level Calculation of bandwidth at the application level Availability of nodes Determination of channel properties, channel measurements Analysis of throughput times during configuration and firmware uploads Examination of connection stability Prototype illustration Results Under real-world conditions, the G3-PLC by devolo features outstanding performance in terms of transfer rate, range and electromagnetic compatibility. Jan-Philipp Blenk, a project manager at Vattenfall Europe Metering GmbH, is impressed with devolo AG s development, and said of it, expectations have been greatly surpassed. In addition, the installation of devolo G3-PLC modems is particularly cost-efficient because G3-PLC technology by devolo needs no repeaters. G3-PLC by devolo real-world success. After intensive examination through exhaustive field tests, devolo G3-PLC technology has proved itself highly qualified for real-world application and, at the same time, offers sufficient capacity reserves for the smart grid applications of the future.
