Online Learning Course: Preventing and Managing Infectious Diseases in Early Education and Child Care Description: This course provides you with reliable national resources for guidance on preventing and managing infectious diseases and is designed for everyone who cares for children, including health care professionals and child care providers. Learning Objectives: Upon its completion, you will be able to: 1. Recognize how infectious diseases (ID) are spread. 2. Identify the role of caregivers in preventing or controlling the spread of ID by hygiene, immunization, environmental controls, and healthy lifestyle. 3. Recognize the actions involved in conducting a daily health check. 4. Identify the criteria for excluding an ill child from attending child care and recognize when it is not helpful. Note to child care providers: This course is approved for 3.0 contact hours. Once you have completed the course, click the Claim Your Credit link on the side navigation bar to print your certificate of completion. Please check with your local licensing/regulatory contact to find out if this will meet your training hours requirement. * This online module is for educational purposes only. Instructions for Registering & Accessing the Preventing and Managing Infectious Diseases in Early Education and Child Care Course Online Please review these instructions before registering for the course. You may want to print these instructions and have them at hand while registering. To complete this course you need an AAP account (Login & Password). If you already have an AAP account, skip to Part Two to register for the course. PART ONE Creating an AAP Account. Follow the steps below to create an AAP account (Login & Password). 1. Click the following link to create an account: http://bit.ly/aapregister * You will need an email address to set up your account. 2. Click on the Individual button. 2 R e v 9 / 12/ 2 0 1 3

3. Complete the entire form and click continue at the bottom. 4. Follow all the prompts to the end to establish your AAP Login & Password, only after you obtain an AAP account will you be able to register for the Preventing and Managing Infectious Diseases in Early Education and Child Care. *Please make sure to write down your AAP ID and Password so you can refer to it later. *Now you have your AAP account. PART TWO Registering for the course. 1. Click on the following link to register for the Preventing and Managing Infectious Diseases in Early Education and Child Care Course: http://bit.ly/infdisease and select the register button. 2. Type in your AAP Login & Password and click the small arrow underneath. 3. Click on Register as Individual 4. Click on Continue with Registration and verify your information. 4 R e v 9 / 12/ 2 0 1 3

5. You should see the name of the course, click Sign Up button. 6. To complete registration select Check Out Now at the bottom of page. * No Promo Code is needed. 7. Make sure to follow all prompts until you click on Submit Order --- This will be the last step in registering for the course. *You have now registered for the course. PART THREE Accessing the course. Follow these steps to access the course: 1. Go to www.pedialink.org 2. Enter your AAP Login and Password in the boxes on the right side of screen. 3. Click on the green CME tab located on the top of the screen. 4. Click the launch button next to Preventing and Managing Infectious Diseases in Early Education and Child Care. 6 R e v 9 / 12/ 2 0 1 3

PART FOUR Claiming Credit and Printing Certificate. Before you can claim credit, you MUST make sure you have completed all parts of the course: Pre-Assessment Questions Demographic Questions Post-Assessment Questions. 7 R e v 9 / 12/ 2 0 1 3

There are three (3) different ways for claiming credit and printing a certificate. Reminder: Before you can claim credit, you MUST make sure you have completed all parts of the course: 1. 3. You may also select Claim Credit or Contact Hours on the left-hand side of the course s homepage in the navigation bar area. Whichever way you select, you will be brought over to the below screen. Please make sure that you follow the instructions depending on whether you re a Health Care Professional, Child Care Provider.
